Has anyone ever had a problem with the steering going back once ignition turned off to a position that has tilted too much? And then when starting the car the wheel does not tilt down enough? It then seems to adopt this routine thereafter.

Barry, could be some kind of memory setting similar to seats and mirrors. Adjust your steering 'rake' and 'reach' to a new setting and try switching off again. It might work.

Possibly the door ECU?

When I had my wiring damage from water, I lost the memory functions in the drivers door.

As Titch says try putting the steering wheel into position, along with the seat and store into memory.

Does it respond correctly?

ps I have a complete set of "used" ECU's for the LS400 if anyone is in need.
