Hello,

Although my (for me new) 95 LS400 has a very fine hifi system, I am thinking about changing the subwoofer coz in my opinion the low bass is not powerfull enough. Dos anybody know what options (what kind/brand subwoofer) is a good substitute for the "standard" one? And will it make a significant difference or is the "standard" subwoofer the summum already?

I hope to get an answer from fellow Lexus-lovers B)

Thanks in regard,

Julius

Buy a bass box, quite a powerful one and take your sub out so you have a port to the boot!!! you will have plenty of bass then, I'm running 2 15" Kicker solo barics, mate bass heaven!!!! Get a good amp though, stick to rockford, JL Audio, Kicker Alpine etc.

Thanks for the advice Andy,

but............

I rather not place a bassbox in the trunk regarding the stuff I have to carry around for my one year old daughter :duh: so my idea is to just replace the regular subwoofer by another one. Better means for me more powerfull, lower frequency.

I am curious if there is a special mark/type as an option to improve the bass without having to build in a subwoofer in the trunk.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Julius

You'll find that the sub-woofer system in the Lexus is designed with the specifications of the amplifier unit which is running it.

If you are planning to just change the sub... You'll probally find that the sensitivity of the OEM sub is ideally suited to match the OEM amp as it's not that overly powerfull.

Bear in mind, there is no such thing as a Free Air sub.. Always sounds nasty and un-controlled.

You'll probally not notice any difference if you just swap out the sub for another.

Best bet would be to perhaps add a bigger amplifier as well as change the sub. This will give you more volume without a doubt but as for low end defination .. Not in free air.

The other thing to try would be to enclose the new sub in a very shallow box, with "AP" type membrane, this will alter the characteristics of having a free air mounted sub, and will gain low end and control of the sub. Very difficult to design this system though. ( loads of parameters to consider) This will avoid having a big boom box
