  1. just because she wanted to the wife used our 911 for work last week , 300 mile weekly commute and a 72 quid fill up , she has spare fuel at the end of the week . i filled up the lexus , and it cost 75 quid in diesel ..... and mine needed filling again at 300 miles ........................ and Mr lexus GB if you reading ,the porsche is 30 years old .
  2. mataus i wish i could have the car or the fuel you have ..... we run an elise sport 160 34mpg + all day long 1979 3.0sc porsche 25 to 27mpg all the time pug 205gti 30mpg all the time lexus 22d regularly 27 to 29mpg over 30 mpg is a real bonus and it a modern turbo diesel , its utterly rubbish . i remeber thrashing a 730d when they first came out 5 years ago and thinking it was thristy at 26mpg , but it was huge . i am going to try the new 123d coupe as its not alot smaller than my lexus ,faster and alot cleaner and more economical ok even in msport spec the price is similar to the lexus but it will cost 900 quid for leather , i do 40k a year so that will be paid for in no time ,and the milage is the reason i have a diesel primary car. in fact if i add what i do in the other cars its maybe 50k a year .
  3. Jamboo , mine was in for its 20k service last week ,complained again about fuel economy as i regularly see below 30mpg in fact over 30 is party time . they did all the ecu mods and stuff last time so they say but i saw no difference to the car at all , this time the servic manager came to see me when i picked it up . He declared they have fixed the MPG ? really ? i asked how ? ,the service manager said , i drove it !! he did a short run and managed 43mpg ? well for a start its supposed to do 50mpg secondly i then tried the same driving style ,no more than 1500 to 2k revs , etc etc , i got 37mpg ,and as i stoped at a set of lights it was dropping , the queue of traffic behind me was huge ,and people kept overtaking as if i had a problem . I told him i thought his reply was wrong , the curtersy car i got was reading tank ave of 30.9 when i got in it , the service magae complained that as soon as anyone else borrows his car ,his 43mpg falls to low 30's and tbh i am getting seriously ****** off with lexus . He dismissed the auto express reports about toyota admitting fuel economy issues with lexus 220d's ,and they have tried to sort my car before / why as its the same now as it was then ,and now he tells me its " me enjoying the performance" i wish they would just admit that its rubbish .... i have thrashed my old leon tdi and got over 40mpg , i drove a big 3.0 auto diesel merc for 8k miles and averaged 34mpg ,i have driven BMW's and audi diesels and none have ever given this bad economy , our modified elise is more frugal and runs on cheaper unleaded even our 30 year old 911 give similar mpg to the lexus round town , i really really hate the blatent ignorance of lexus dealers that there is an issue . in fact i really thing that watchdog or one of the motoring programs should really pic this one up ,and shame lexus into sorting it , even if they have to drop euro 5 and go euro 4 i mean its not even clean on CO2 ..... the new 320d makes the 220d look like a gas guzzling tank by comparison ..... the cars great but boy doe this make me |ANGRY
  4. still getting under 30mpg ........ can't belive figures in the 40's ,however mines and early car so must be the earlier 22d's with issues , and tbh its wearing me down . its just really awful.
  5. 15k miles 80% urban 20% motorway , and between 27 to 30mpg , i ran an e280 merc auto with no miles on the clock for a few months a while ago (did 8k miles in it from new) and doing the same daily mixed driving got 35mpg and up toward 40 with more motorway work. last week i used a Vw toran tdi for the week same driving ,averaged 47mpg. prior to the lexus i ran a seat cupra tdi and drove it like i stole it and never did it dip below 40mpg ....... even flat out in germany. in fact on a track day in it i still manage 30+ mpg. the lexus is appalling , i have apparently had all the mods and as its a lease car and nothing i can do i have just given up worrying. a collegue has the same car up in scotland ..... never sees a trafic que ever and his barely scratches 35mpg. in fact my fuel card company can tell us what the car has averaged on every single fill up if lexus want the data. but i really don't belive they have a clue or tbh care.
  6. i agree, it's outrageous! i certainly wont be doing it again if i end up in the same position - i had to provide a years worth of statements for all my bank accounts, credit cards etc in court as well as a shed load of other documents. took ages preparing everything and working with the solicitor - total ball ache! for a start the hire car costs are never taken into account wether to write a car off or not , the same as personal injury claims think about it some of those go to 10's of thousands and thats held as the claim value but not against the vehicle damage . I have not been asked to provide any evidence as to justify the hire charges as directline agreed them ,and it was repaired in their aproved repairer at their request so the time taken was down to them . Yes they will pay out close to that amount as thats the rate that was negotiated with the insurer after the accident , trust me i am aware of ever step of whats happened as i have helped fight in the situation that they wanted the car back while i was in the states on business. Wouls i go the no fault route again if i was obviously not at fault .... dam straight i would , i use my car for business , i would have done at least 15k miles in those 5 months and you can bet your life there is no way i would have put up with being in a shopping car to churn those motorway miles. yes its why insurance goes up , but ask yourself ,why should you be incovinienced by for example a drunk driver . as for the plates Jamboo .... i'm well aware of the laws with regard to plates , and i know these arn't correct , just like all the people round here who have done similar . but its not a silly font or numbers being made to look like letter they arn't .... as for mot ....... whats an MOT we have those on the classic cars we own , but nothing else gets to mot time before its replaced .... not with my mileage .
  7. Not wishing to sound sharp you mustn't have quite caught the years we have run small plates on our elise or for ages no front plate at all , till it was a pain at petrol stations getting the pump turned on...... i mean 3 inches by 7 on the front , with no woes . i don't belive i will have any issues with the ones on the lexus either , but then again who knows , i am sure being asked to remove them won't spoil my enjoyment ,so if its all the same they'll stay ....... oh and btw make sure you don't stray over 70 on the motorway will you ;)
  8. yep i am sure the black and silver plates won't last forever , however it not like i am trying to decieve ....... for example our elise is on small plates and has been for years , there are stacks of nice cars round this way that run black plates , i can think of several range rovers localy , a silver macmerc slr which is where i saw the silver carwith black plates , and a landrover ,and a DB9 ......
  9. Hi mark , no it wasn't my fault , was hit by a drunk driver , directline was his insurance co , mine were never even informed as i went straight to a no fault management company . day 1 i had an equivilent or better car (why should i be put out ?) it went to directlines bodyshop so any delays they couldn't say a word . and when the car was estimated the repairs were looking to be 11k , however when the engineers look at it they don't consider rental costs (tis why if you had been a directline customer at fault you get a poxy little shopping car during repairs) they also could never have know how long some parts took to get in from japan via lexus uk. the management company have stold up for me every step of the way , and not let me ever get fobbed off , directline wanted the rental back when i was in the states on business ,but i stated my wife would use it , they said she could use her own car , true but why should she ,she's use the lexus if i was i way because maybe she didn't want to drive the lotus or the porshe or even the 205 for that matter , they argued and the car stayed (especially when i mentioned maybe they should be carefull who they insure? ) so yes , a long process but a good lesson in if its clearly not your fault go straight to a decent no fault management company , !!!!
  10. Well nearly 5 months to the day since it happened the car has returned . I'll be sad to see the E class return to the hire company , also knowing that direct line paid for an e class (well at 30k rental costs they paid for the Eclass i have been driving) add on top a total repair bill of 14k + vat due to a few extra mechanical bits but its back ..... and drives better with less creaks than before it was knocked . The bodyshop have done a great job , can't fault all the work , though the time was long ,due to the supply of parts i'm told . however here it is ...... also thanks to craigsplates for the black lexus fit numberplates , i really like the fit into the rear gap , as it looks much better ,though how long before i get told to take them off who knows. pics after the repair and back on my drive. and a reminder of how 14k's worth of damage can not look that bad. before. now just to get the 5th injector and ecu mods done ,as i never got the chance for it to see a 10k service.
  11. Hey now this is almost spooky , My Lexus is also still off the road , but for a different reason , the 12k's worth of accident damage , however i want my IS back its a nice comfortable car ,and i tested the 3 series to just remind myself as it was borderline rightoff . However i belive parts supply from lexus is the reason i havn't seen my lexus since Good (?) Friday ...... fortunately i have had decent hire cars as it was a no fault acident . Currently an E class Avangarde 280 CDI , ..... now how is a huge V6 barge auto more economical and quicker driven by the same driver in the same way as my IS .... ASK YOURSELF THAT ONE LEXUS GB !!!!!!! the first hire car i had was a subaru Legacy Spec B 3.0 flat 6 .. sounded like my 911 .but boy ...... that gave me reason to pty far worse cosumption ..... consistent 15mpg ,but it was fun .... however i have the fuel consumption 5th injector ecu remap hassle woes to deal with when and if my Lexus is finished. Hire car at 165 + vat per day 90 days so far ad counting. :D at last payback for years of high premiums ...... now i understand why they are so high.
  12. Agreed Jamboo , and tbh both me and him would rather thats where its goes , resale does not matter to me as this is a lease car , however if its writen off then i won't get another one as the lease deal we had has changed , i tend to look at the lease specials at the time ...... so its see what specials they have or its a car off the list , and that looks like either a 520d se or audi are doing a nice deal on the sline special editions at the moment with full leather and rs4 style wheels and dvd sat nav for just another 500 quid on top of that ... . tbh dispite the econom moans , which for a diesel really are shocking , i loved the lexus , the audi has crap attitude dealers , and tbh the 5 is a little to big ..... so i'll just have to see whats there .... maybe i'll go for something small again.. who knows.
  13. cheers guys ..... as for bodyshops jamoo ,he's one of 5 bently aproved repairers in the country , so even a step above a lexus bodyshop .... they are also BMW approved and that and the bentley work keeps them more than busy . , they started doing that when the tyrell F1 team passed away as they were their paint shop ,so it a little bit of a special place , they do restoration work as well and are currently doing an original works alloy bodied MGB rally car , 2 of which mark who owns it rallies himself . As for hire cars , well how about a brand new Bspec 3.0 turbo flat 6 Legacy , twas that or a merc ,and to make matters worse i can get the same mpg i was getting out of a dam lexus dismal (until i start yomping away from the lights :) ) lets see what happens in the future to this and how long i have to wait for another one.
  14. already been told the opinion is it needs a shell , and its less than a year old , i know the bodyshop well as the guy that owns it i know and did the carbon work on my race car .... there is at least 50% of the value in damage just at a cursery glance .....
  15. ok this morning we got it on a chassis trolly and moved it into the workshop for a look see . things that we can obviously see shell kinked boot floor damaged side damage rear subframe bent 3 damaged alloys boot not sitting straight n/s chassis rear leg twisted diff knackered where driveshaft ripped out complete o/s suspension ripped out amp in boot bent and damaged however all 4 doors open and close exhast crushed (rear box) and a few pics of those bits ........ we also realise where the other car first touched mine which was near the front wheelarch ..... another couple of inches and i might not be typing right now. Harvsport lexus damage pics
  16. I am pleased to hear that you are OK Harv and that the safety gear worked well - it isn't the kind of test that you would volunteer for is it? tbh from many shunts over the years in motorsport ,and for that matter on the road , this is the first that has come from knowhere and surprised me. yeah the trouble is i was looking foward to next weeks 10k service and remap ....... however it looks like i'll be after a new one now .
  17. well this afternoon on a saunter back from the gym i happened to find out , unfortunately vitim to a drunk driver who swerved across the road into the whole drivers side of the car finally ripping the rear wheel and wishbones completely off its twisted the chassis and the boot floor isn't pretty ,and all things point to a write off , however so many bags deployed it was like sitting in a bouncy castle , and i can saftley say the car stood up well and we were both fine if a little shaken ........... tomorrow i'll take a couple of pick to show what it looks like but the audi with the nice drunk polish pilot :tsktsk: looked a very sorry state ...... thank *** they are only pieces of metal. and nice to see the police do a stirling job ,taking all manor of witness statements and using the cuffs for once at the scene of an accident. :
  18. having the windows auto close if you push and hold the lock button down is nice but not unusual ... however today when it was warm i discovered that if you press and hold unlock then you'll find it unlocks and opens all the windows fully . handy when we finally have those hot steamy summer days and you need to release all that hot ait before you get in ....... however in my other thread you'll see i now might wait a while to find out how handy this is ...
  19. I'm sure when i test drove the demo car if you press and held the TC button you could turn off VSC as well , however when trying on my car i just seem to be able to only loose traction ...... anyone else tried or know why this is ?
  20. the drone when you floor it at 65mph in 6th is you labouring the engine ? ........... i would not stop getting the drone unless you use 6th only after 75mph like tha manual states
  21. Nicely slipped into my handbook was the data sheet showing the official fuel figures . I wonder if this is worth taking a step further . For a start there is a sale of goods issue here , discription and quoted official figures are totally misleading and tbh enough grounds for rejection of the vehicle . maybe watchdog or one of the car magazines might be interested , maybe as i'm just down the road from the beloved top gear track we could ask the stig to drive the car get and try and get the figures quoted . maybe a bit of media hype might just make Lexus GB stand up and listen . i think my first port of call will be several car mags . along with top gear AND my local trading standards . If anyone else seriously feels we are being ignore with this it might just get someone to do something., its not like its the odd car . Anyone here work in PR ? and want to help? would raise the club profile a bit too
  22. seady 70 on the m25 in 6th ............... 32mpg and dropping .............. i reset the average once at 70mph and set it there with cruise .............. surely thats wrong ?
  23. New IS220d owner , have a few other toys but the signiture sould explain that , but after 2 weeks a little unhappy with my IS . worst economy from a diesel ever and the world most useless 6th gear , lets see if lexus start to recognise this as an issue. Is220d SE
  24. Hi downsouth which dealer did you go to ............... I am on my 5th diesel car, and at the moment i'm astounded how poor the fuel economy is ,and how useless 6th gear is unless its way over 80 mph . i spoke breifly to lexus guildford this afternoon and the response was that i don't have a problem but bring it in and they will have a look . I may call lexus poole monday and ask them wether thay have a soloution ,but very disapointed at the moment. my 150tdi cupra leon is faster and way more economical ,i cannot belive they think this isn't a problem.
