  1. Are you serious? It's only one day of snow mate... I know global warmings kickin' in but we're far from the need for this!

    BUT each to their own...

Mk1 (and MK2 as far as I know) Avensis steel wheels are pcd 100x5.

From what I have read on the net, this for example:

    http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/techinfo/winter.asp

Our typical (summer) tyres aren't very suitable to temp under 7 celcius, so winter tyres can/should be used from around November to March? I think some winter tyres have properties of all-season tyres so they can also cope with warm spells during this period. Countries like Holland have similar weather to us but the % of people using winter tyres is much higher than the UK, and I believe that this may be one of the reasons why they cope much better in bad weather (ice, snow) then we do.

I'm sure someone will correct me.

  2. best bet is getting some steel wheels, there available from the dealer on the continent, however avensis steel wheels fit, (pcd 114.3 x 5) these with narrow winter tyres will be much better indeed

i used to have the part number for the OEM Lexus steel winter wheels, ill dig it out

Considering the weather outside, I'm interested in following up on this topic. I know it's already Feb and kind of pointless getting winter tyres now, but definitely something I want to get done for next winter.

Do you happen to have the Lexus steel wheels part numbers, what size are they?

Which year Avensis are we talking about? Can even smaller wheels ie 14" or 15" from the Avensis work?

In case if we need something aftermarket, what offset should I aim for with 14", 15" and 16" wheels?

  3. So what it comes down to is this:

In the unlikely event of a puncture sufficiently serious enough to rapidly deflate the tyre whilst moving at speed, you can carry on driving... for a bit... Admittedly this type of puncture has happened to me once, but that was 300,000 miles ago and I don't know of anyone else it has happened to. And I check my tyre pressures a bit more often since those days!!! ;)

In return you get worse ride, worse handling, significantly greater expense in the event of any puncture, and a bit of extra space in the boot.

Not all that appealing to me, to be honest...

    Mike

Reason I asked is because I'm considering a LPG install, and the tank will be placed where the spare wheel is, guess a can of tyre foam will do.

  4. Thanks for the reply Mars.

I got it checked out at a garage anyway as i was getting some work done to the car. The lights are completely sealed and you cant open it without breaking it. So you are right, I will have to somehow deal with the company. My advice to everyone, never buy anything from essexracing.com! pr1cks!!

How do I find out who DEPO are? i cant find any website on them. Any suggestions or ideas?

  5. As I'm not getting any response from the audio/electric forum, I have double posted here. Apologies if this broke any forum rules.

I'm planning to get a DAB radio for my IS200, few queries. I know a glass mounted one can be used, but signal strength is a concern and it looks cluttered.

Is it possible to remove the factory aerial and use an aftermarket AM/FM/DAB combo one?

Is the aerial amplified, if not can I use this?

    http://www.lowcostcaraudio.co.uk/shop/Auto.../DAB/Autoleads/

How to remove the aerial base?

Does the factory radio have a standard AM/FM aerial connector?

How is the cable from aerial to radio routed, and how much pain is it to gain access to it?

Any experience with either the Revo or ICS100?

    Comments appreciated.
