  1. Right, thats very true. One's on 90K miles and the other is on 70k.
  2. Hello Chaps, I guess reading the above 0w30 will probably be fine to use? I've got 4 botttles of 4L 0w30 Castrol Edge that I'm looking to use on our 2 Altezza 3sge's. Been using 5w40 & 5w30 more recently with no problems. I change oil & filter on the 2 cars every 6months/6k miles.
  3. Update. All good now... car's running as normal... Turns out that the MAF sensor was dirty and therefore causing the car to not run properly.. After I cleaned it last night and put it back together, this morning it was back to normal again...... Thank god it wasn't anything more serious... off to buy another isopropyl alcohol aerosol now!
  4. Hello chaps.. I've got a 99 Altezza RS200 with around 45k miles It recently started to struggle on low revs.... up to about 3.5k... then would get better.....then the box changes gear and I'm back to square one again with not much power... Attempted to search and read up a bit and did the following.... - Changed the spark plugs... The old Denso IK20s looked a bit old so I got a new set of IK20s in yesterday.. - There weren't any warning lights so I hope the coils are ok. Had a look at the coil packs while changing the plugs and they looked ok.. (As if I'll know by just looking!!) - Also took a peek down the Spark plug holes and they looked pretty clean and dry (thinking that the rocker cover gasket may be leaking and mess up the plugs/coils) Drove it today to work and back and still was rubbish.. - Took the MAF sensor off and cleaned it with isopropal alcohol aerosol, it looked quite dirty. - Also disconnected the battery for 30 minutes (hope this resets the ECU) - Had a look at the 2 lambda sensors to check if they were still plugged in. (Yes they were tight) Then it got really cold and wet and I couldn't be arsed and came back in! Hopefully cleaning the MAF and reseting the ECU will help.. I'll find out tomorrow when I drive into work... Any one of you guru's have any ideas on what I could look at next... I'm thinking of getting some new/secondhand coil packs next.... I take it the AS200/IS200 coils won't fit.... Many Thanks.
  5. I've just had the infamous (I think) ignition barrel jam! Took the Altezza for a mot. It passed, but when the mot guy drove it out and parked, he turned the key to ACC and managed to take the key out... Read some previous posts and have tried to tap the barrel housing with an alloy tap & rubber mallet.... no joy... Phoned these guys up "http://www.your-auto-locksmith.co.uk/" and the chap quoted £350!! and that is to come, take it out and repair...... :tsktsk: bliming heck! got this funny feeling that he's trying to rip me off... Two questions I'm hoping for some help on... 1. Does anyone know where I can get the barrel repaired? Approx how much am I look at? (I'm in Hertfordshire, Welwyn Garden City) 2. I was wondering if the barrel the same on an Altezza & IS200? other than the Altezza doesn't have an immobiliser chip key?? If they are the same, I suppose I can go to Lexus to get an replacement.... posting some pictures of my barrel below so you can have a lookie... Many Thanks
  6. Quick question, so if a IS200 catback system can bolt straight onto a altezza, would a IS300 catback system also bolt on? I understand that the exhaust manifolds would be different etc but i suppose from cat backwards would be the same. Just wondering??
  7. Hello, got our two RS200 Auto's for about a year now. Best we ever managed was 36 mpg. Me mum's light footed motoring driving. Worst was around 19mpg, me driving obviously both cars average around 27 mpg. town & motorway.
  8. Thinking about changing the auto gearbox oil on our 2 RS200's. The Silver one's shifting is getting slightly "hard" so I thought I'll get it done before it gets worst... Car's done 60k miles. Will do the Blue one too while I'm at it. My question is, what alternatives is there to Toyota Type IV ATF? Because I'll need 14.4 litres for 2 cars... I don't want to pay 100's of pounds of inflated prices at toyota...... its just oil for pete's sake..... and its probably not even fully synthetic! Have read in other threads about Mobil 3309 ATF being similar? Could anyone give me some clear advice on what alternative auto gear oils I could get and from where? online would be cool?? On the same subject, them Auto Transmission Treatments... e.g Greased Lightning... do they help with hard shifting probs.... Because looking at the oil from the gearbox dipstick, it doesn't even look dirty yet its starting to shift a bit hard....?? Many Thanks!
  9. Both our Altezza's (RS200's Auto's) were regestered around March this year (07). Both had recorded 225 CO2 and are paying £210....I think The silver one had a CO2 reading of 225 straight away. Had to get the SVA agent to mess about with the blue one for ages to get it down to a reading of 225.... just to avoid paying the £300 squids if it was any higher....... Think they had to scronge a 2 new lambda sensors... (this was at the height of the Tesco/Morissons Fuel crisis!) and the throttle position sensor... So I suppose when your tezza was regestered, they didn't play with the engine to get the CO2 down. Good luck.... IMHO, DVLA are a bunch of bast*ds at the best of times...
  10. Just a quick update... car's all registered and am driving it... :D Gave up looking... just fobed off the DVLA with a ahem...."made up" number with 3sge on the front. Thanks for all the advice.. but none of it helped I'm afraid.... I looked at the plate on the firewall first thing... same problem as when I was regestering my old MR2 Turbo a couple years back... the bloody engine number isn't on there!!! I also fobbed the dvla off with another made up 3sgte number that time as well can't be bothered to craw underneath the car! oh well, just thought I'll try to give the dvla the proper engine number this time. maybe not......
  11. Don't think Eneos oil is available in the UK I'm afraid. Just serviced mine today, assuming your Altezza is the RS200 the bits you need should be the same as me. 1. Denso VK or IK20 Spark Plugs (freely available from ebay) 2. Air Filter - I just blew/cleaned mine with compressed air, although an IS300 air filter should fit 3. Oil filter, get a MR2 2.0 16V filter from any motor factors/Halfords 4. Oil, using Tesco 5w-40 Fully Synth. 5. Brakes should be the same as IS200. (I just cleaned/sanded my pads/discs) 6. Coolant - I used the Pink Halfords "Advanced" stuff. (Others I believe swear by the Toyota Forlife Coolant) 7. Fuel Filter - Donno Think thats it. ^_^
  12. Thanks Mat, will run out to my nearest Halfords tomorrow to get the PC2-17-4 (Is200 S) adapter and see if that works?? Could always refund the bugger if it doesn't I suppose. :P Cheers! All sorted! Cheers! :D
  13. Thanks Mat, will run out to my nearest Halfords tomorrow to get the PC2-17-4 (Is200 S) adapter and see if that works?? Could always refund the bugger if it doesn't I suppose. :P Cheers!
  14. Mat, Yes, I know I won't have a amp if its not fitted...... :P But the problem is I don't know "IF" I have a amp fitted??? Hence me posting pictures up to ask you peeps to have a lookie and advise me on whether I'm looking in the right place... So judging from the 3rd picture, is this where I should be looking for the amp, or is it hidden behind some other panel? I did see some plugs/terminals, but none of them seem to match up to the big harness plug from ebay... big big thanks! :D
  15. Hello, Trying to install a Kenwood headunit into the Altezza. (The bottom loading changer gone ERR3 for the last time!) Our Altezza is the RS200 L Edition model and has the Japanese SatNav so I assumed it has the Active speaker system in it. Have brought both the ebay Amp bypass and Facia kit. Now that I've taken everything out, I can seem to find the amp! From searches, I think the amp is on the left hand side of the glovebox. Have posted some piccies below. Can anyone shed a bit of light on this?? Do I actually have the "passive system then"?? Picture of the 4 plugs I've got Just to show I've got the Jap GPS.... Rather blank looking left hand side behind the glovebox! Cheers guys!
  16. How do I gain access the unit as I've got a satnav?? Did try searching but it all refers to the ol' "Felt Pad" which I don't have!!!! Any help would be much appreciated.... Cheers.
  17. Yeah, I think I'll prob try to strip the unit tomorrow evening. Emm.. I'm trying to register the car??? In order to get a logbook (V5)?
  18. Thanks for the quick reply. Have looked on the plate already. I was after the engine serial number. this isn't stamped on the chassis plate unfortunately. Anybody else know?? Have given up on the err3 thing for the time being... the motor doesn't even whine/click now Will prob give it another go tomorrow.
  19. Hello chaps, Just took delivery of a 99' RS200 Auto on monday and am filling in them forms for the dvla to get it registered tomorrow. Can't seem to find the engine number. Coming up the the ol' Err3 :duh: Tried the fuse and wiggle another cd in the slot tricks! No joy! Any suggestions???
