  1. Anything that draws current from the battery will inevitably have an adverse impact on fuel consumption (there's no such thing as a free lunch after all). Whether it's significant enough to worry about is another matter though. I personally wouldn't worry about it, although I'd probably advise not using it for too long without the engine running.
  2. I've had 43mpg reported on runs from Cambridge to Ipswich (probably around 40 in reality) along the A14 at a steady 70mph. I'm mightily impressed. I'm sure it's also getting better as the car mileage goes up (now up to 8000 miles) - or perhaps it's just the warmer weather.
  3. <devils_advocate>But if the bulb failed you'd think that the airbag was enabled if there was only a single indicator.</devils_advocate> I think the current system is fine (particularly as we are dealing with an important safety system) - I just wish it was a bit more aesthetically pleasing.
  4. I find the position of the clock a little annoying for right hand drive cars. It's partially obscured if I hold the steering wheel at certain positions. Sure, it's a bit naff - but it does the job. I just wish it was a bit easier to read. As for the airbag indicator, yes, it does look a bit 'public service vehicle', but I guess it's an important safety indicator.
  5. Just take care. I've been driving for 25 years and haven't reversed into anything yet despite never having parking sensors. I've hit a few things with the front of my cars over the years though.
  6. I'm 43, so no spring chicken. But, I came from a Honda Accord so I *must* be getting younger!
  7. Good question. Well, it's good for my 'family' - i.e. just me and the mrs dazed.
  8. Lexus IS came in third behind Toyota Prius and Honda Jazz. Had it been kept in the executive class (like last year) it would have been top of its class. However, it (along with series 3, A4 and C class) has been relegated to 'family car' where it came second behind the Prius. As expected, Lexus retained their top spot in the manufacturer class. The full story
  9. I've managed to reproduce my problem exactly (the front windows start to go down about a second before the rear ones, hence it is possible to just end up with the front windows open a little). To be honest, this 'feature' has scared the living daylights out of me and is definitely going to be disabled at the next service. Thankfully I suffered no water damage on this occassion.
  10. Thanks for the feedback. The 'key' fob had been in my pocket all along and there are no 'curious little hands' in the household, so maybe it got pressed accidentally. It's the first time it's happened in 5 months and I'm just grateful it wasn't raining. I'll enquire with my dealer about getting it disabled. To be honest, such a feature doesn't sound particularly useful - just prone to the problem I encountered today.
  11. This morning, when I came out to my car (IS250SE), I was surprised to see that the driver and front passenger windows were both open about 2 inches (thankfully the car was still locked). The windows definitely weren't left open when I last left and locked the car. Infact the windows hadn't even been opened during the last use of the car. It's rather worrying to think that the car can decide to open the windows without my consent - even if it is gloriously sunny! Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
  12. Yep, I know. I went into my local dealer with a view to buying a 220D - and I came out with a 250SE auto. Best decision I ever made.
  13. I think my 250SE Auto looks great at night. The 'laser style ' LED from the roof that illuminates the gear selector is pretty neat (but then I am easily impressed)
  14. I consistently average 35mpg per tank (according to the computer - so less in reality I guess). My daily 50 mile roundtrip commute consists of: 1. 4 miles on country lanes (through one village on the way) averaging about 35mph 2. 20 miles on free flowing dual carriage way at around 70mph 3. 1 mile crawl into a city (this bit can take up to 10 minutes) and back again in the evening. I'm pretty impressed with this as my old 2.0 litre Honda Accord was actually slightly worse than this.
  15. Go for the automatic, it's in a lower band than the manual (amazing fact but true).
  16. That is by design. If you open the car using the key in the lock then you will set the alarm off.
  17. That's outrageous. I'm half expecting to see an entry for 'Shagged Mrs Dazed ..... £50 x 2' on my bill. "What, you mean you didn't want us to send two of our highly trained mechanics round? You should have told us". I'm going to keep a damn close eye on my dealership.
  18. I think this demonstrates the importance of extensive test driving (especially when spending £20K plus). I too found the gearing a problem (amongst other things) and opted for the 250SE auto instead, which I love to bits. Had I bought the 220d SE, I'd be slagging Lexus off by now. Instead, with a 250 I can't praise them enough. It's a personal thing of course. Many people here love the 220d, and that's perfectly fine and understandable. Horses for courses and all that.
  19. I've had my 250SE auto for about six weeks and covered just under 2000 miles so far. It's performed absolutely flawlessly and averaged about 34mpg. The V6 and auto box are a great combination - plenty of power with near seamless shifts. I couldn't fault it if I tried - so I guess that's pretty positive. I've even started to think how dated and bland the current German competition looks.
  20. Mine are side by side, but not illuminated. I'd just assumed that that's the way it's intended to be.
  21. You should certainly rectify this. It's important that your insurance company knows what they are insuring and it's also vital that insurer and DVLA agree so that you can tax the car without any problems being thrown up. I assume you only paid SE money. :winky:
  22. I've noticed that my car (250SE auto) has a tendancy to wander, particularly when braking. I've always put it down to something to do with the tyres and poor road surfaces as the problem is so erratic. Regarding the dipped headlights, I agree. I've often found myself wondering if they're actually on!
  23. If you're doing short urban runs in the current weather then I wouldn't be surprised. been like that since I got her at the beginning of november It depends how far you drive and how you drive. I could envisage journeys that would only give 24mpg. I drive 25 miles to work on mainly dual carriageway at a steady 70mph with no roundabouts. I also live in the sticks, so no traffic to prevent my engine warming up reasonably quickly. Finally, I rarely exceed 3000rpm. That tends to gives me about 34-35mpg.
  24. If you're doing short urban runs in the current weather then I wouldn't be surprised.
  25. I can't point you at any definitive statement, but a system that stopped learning would be of very little use. My wife drives differently to me and when driving in Cumbria the gear box tends to shift up later than when I'm driving in Cambridgeshire. It's a continuous thing I'm sure. It's not confined to Lexus - my old Honda was the same.
