  1. Could mark 4 members confirm wether the phone is supposed to switch off with the ignition or not - mine doesnt and i have to manually turn it off everytime. If it is designed not to go off then could anybody advise how to disconnect it as i dont think i will be needing it - there does appear to be some wiring in the boot on the right hand side - is this for the phone or not??

Also i have noticed when i switch off and restart i have to manually switch on the CD or whatever was playing before switching off - is this normal? ans also is there anyway to switch off the aerial so it doesnt come up when the CD is playing

  2. HI

Jeff congratulations on your new purchase!

Sorry if this is off topic but when you get a chance can you post a write up comparing the LS400 and LS430 so that prospective buyers like myself can atleast have idea of some of pros and cons of each model - "i keep hearing "the mark 4 LS400 is the best of all"?????

Also in your picture album you have pictures of the pre accident ls400 - could you let me know what camera was used to take those pics

  3. I have been looking for a mint Mark 4 LS400 for at least a year but the perfect one has not yet turned up so if your thinking of selling and your car meets the spec below please give us a tinkle

Colour: Ideally Blue or Green with either grey or beige leather (will consider silver or mint green if the mileage is low)

Mileage: Around 50K miles with FSH ideally one onwner

If it has wooden steering wheel that would be a bonus but i know that they are rare

Car must be in mint original condition and be NON DHP

  4. Hi All Lexus Lovers

A few days ago I received an email from Steve to say that my name/membership number had been drawn at random to win

a set of car mats for my '98 LS400. I never win anything. I followed Steve's instructions and 'phoned Josh at simplycarmats.co.uk

and placed my order - beige mats with beige trim. They arrived yesterday and they are great - top quality. Many thanks to Steve, the LOC and to

simplycarmats. It shows that it is worth being a member of the LOC.

    Tony

You jammy *******! The most expensive replacement item (tyres aside) in over six years on my '98 LS, has been a set of mats.

    Well done that man!

    hello tony

how does the quality of the mats compare to the original mats and do they have the holes to secure them down like the originals?

    please advise

  5. I reckon the engine is a little quieter in the mark 3

Everyone who comments on my MKIII remarks as to how quiet the engine sounds and, when I tell them its done 188k, they are gobsmacked.

I agree mines also a 95 and exceptionally quiet 187300 on clock, mileage is not an issue as long as its got good history, most other makes of cars are well tired by these kind of mileages .Ls's are nicely run in lol

    steve

    Hi

Have to say i totally agree with steve - mine is a 96 on P pLate with 86 K on the clock. I do mostly town driving with it i am amazed and the how quite the ride is - part of the reason is it i rarely have to rev it over 1500 RPM. In town on a straight road it will do 30 mph with an engine speed of 1000rpm which is extremely quite, smooth and economical on petrol aswell. Had it 3 years and never had any problems with it. Would love upgrade to an LS430 but i keep telling myself with more electrical gizmos theres more to go wrong??? but then again with prices dropping like they are the newer LS are becoming even more desireable - i know one day something will come along and i will like it too much to hold back! but for time being im happy with mine.

  6. Hi all. i seem to spend a good bit of time looking for spares when i need them. Luckly my cars been great.

I need to replace the gas dampers that hold up the bonnet. Just now I have to use the mop :-)to stop myself from being decapitated. Does anyone know where I'd find 'em?

    thanks.

    Jeff

I could sell them to you for £200 + :o or you can try these guys :)

  7. Hi

Steve your advice was spot on - after ringing the MK dealer with a chassis number i was told it was indeed a UK car with standard suspension

How much do you reckon its worth?

    thanks for your help

EDIT: actually i spoke too soon - just to make sure i rang another lexus dealer as was told it did have the handleing pack??????

so further clarify i rang lexus cambrdige and was told that he car when new had had lower springs, a different anti roll bar and 17 inch wheels which means it does have DHP - :0( - not what i wanted to hear!

  8. Hi I've just defected from Mercedes and bought my first Lexus. A 87,000 mile 1996 LS400. Wow, these cars are so good.

It's immaculate except for on the bottom edge of the front bumper there's a 1 inch high piece of trim that's been broken.

    What is it called please?

    Can I get another one?

If so, where from and how much can I expect to pay?

    Many thanks

    Ed

    HERES THE LINK:Click

    I eventually removed mine.

Had mine for over 2 years now - cannot fault it in any way - ben on the look out for a "unique" Mark 4 but nothing has come up so far

  9. hi all.

i hope to be the proud owner of a ls400 sometime soon, once ive sold my classic austin mini.

just at the starting stages of my research.

i was thinking of buying a 95-97 model, mk3 i think that is, but have been reading about people with cars mk3's cutting out on them and leaving them in dangerous situations, ie motorway sliproads etc.

does this just effect the mk3?

what is the best model to own?

should i go for a real early car 93 year (US website) is said to be the best year of the early cars? or is a mk4 the one to have ( does this have above problems, or something scary of it own?

what colours range do the ls400 come in?

will i struggle to keep my car on the road, or are all spares easy to get hold of via lexus ( worst case) ?

thanks in advance for any info.

    jeffro

    Hi Jeffro

The 95 model mark3 is the one that has a problem cutting out a 96/97 should be fine, the mark4 is the one to go with if you have the extra few hundred to spend.

spares are no problem ( a bit more exspensive than on a mini though)

check for suspension clunks or creaks , warped or worn discs & history make sure cambelt has been changed or allow £600 if it hasn't.

Outher than that its all your normal checks ( make sure everything electrical works) Engine & gearbox wise they are bulletproof so dont be afraid to look at higher miles examples ( if they have full history).

Test a few & you will find a good one.

Spares are not too expensive ( bearing in mind the class of car) & are quite easy to work on apart from the starter motor.

    Good luck Mark

Mark just out of curosity why is that the 95 only suffers from cutting out and not the 96/97 as you say - did lexus change something?
