  1. I have only had it 3 weeks or so, and it has always acted this way. I don't know if it has had the battery disconnected at any time so cant comment on that. Does a check and reset need a dealer visit, or can I get some software to check/correct it if it needs it. I have a bluetooth OBD connector - would I need a usb one?
  2. In the manual it says that a one second depression of the open button opens the roof partially, followed by a second depression to continue. Mine doesn't - I need to keep the button down constantly to open it. Also, when I close it, the roof continues to the tilt position if i don't release it. Same if I tilt, when closing it will carry on to open if I don't release it. Obviously there is a problem, but is it fixable or will I need new parts, and if so is it the switch cluster or the motor.
  3. I was surprised to find that the electric folding mirrors on my recently acquired GS do not fold automatically when the engine is turned off - but then found this was not an uncommon oversight until much more recently. Until a few years ago there were a number of hacks discussed on the web for making this work - but no new information has been discussed or posted for about 6 years. Has anyone here either - - done a hack to make their folding mirrors fold on ACC off and unfold on ACC on. - used any of the kits now available for doing this - such as this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Car-Side-Mirror-Folding-System-Auto-Side-Mirror-Folding-Kit-New/283166602315?hash=item41ee0b744b:g:3xAAAOSw2sNboKIj:rk:6:pf:0
  4. I have looked at over a hundred during the last couple of months and only seen one other in the 'beige'. The photos of that one didn't do it justice and made the car look a flat washed out colour, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it in the flesh.
  5. No, got it from the Midlands - and there is no scratch on the rear behind the wheel arch
  6. I've already bought it - for a surprisingly low price. The roof rack was not a consideration when I bought it - I only thought about it when I was preparing my Insignia for sale and was taking the roof rack of that. Thule do not list one for the GS300 - so I guess it ain't going to be easy to find, if it exists
  7. I have been looking for a while and have eventually found what, so far, seems to be the car I was looking for. It's a 2005 GS300 with only 79,000 on the clock and full service history. There is only one scratch (had trouble finding it) on the paintwork and the interior is unmarked - apart from some marks on the mat in the drivers well which has protected the carpet. I have one question though. With my previous GS300 (1994) I had a roof rack that I used on the very odd occasion, but I can't find one for this model. Does such a thing exist?
  8. When searching for details of O2 sensors (GS300 ) most appear to come wth the plugs, use of which requires removal of items from the passenger compartment. I have, however seen some lambda sensors which come not with plugs, but with bare end wire and four plastic coated cable joiners implying that they should be fitted by joining cable. So would anyone care to comment on why the cable joining method should not be used on the O2 sensors on the Lexus, as this does have a major impact on the time to fit, and therefore the labour costs of fitting, replacements.
  9. Unfortunately neither of the cars I was considering worked out. However I have been offered a 2005 GS300 with under 100,000 for £2000. It has a rip in one of the rear seat pads (not massive but noticeable), and the front bumper is scratched (no other marks on the body). The mot is for almost a year with no advisories. I'm not sure about the seat issue, but I can get the front bumper re-painted for about £150 . I would prefer to take the bumper off for painting rather than having it masked. If I decide to go for this car, how easy is the bumper removal - anyone done it?
  10. I think I may have found a nice 2005 GS300 with low mileage, but have also seen a 540h which is also nice. But that raises a question A 124,000 mile 2006 450H (with a recent battery refurb) which is immaculate inside and, apart from some scratches on the wing and roof which will cost about £500 to rectify, has immaculate bodywork OR a 2005 300 with 84,000 miles and immaculate interior and paintwork (really, no scratches at all). Both cars within the same price bracket of £4500 (well the 450 is £300 more but may get him down). Which would you guys go for.
  11. I have been sent details of a GS300 which may be of interest but - checking the MOT history there are two advisories on the most recent MOT which I need to check were sorted. Just in case they were not I wonder if anyone here may be able to throw some light on them. Its a 2005 GS300 and the advisories stated All sidelights pulsating low tyre pressure warning light on According to Google searches quite a few owners reported the flickering lights problem a few years ago - but I cannot find any references to a solution. Has anyone any knowledge of this, and can anyone throw any light on the low pressure warning permanently displaying.
  12. Is there any sites which would show the DIY procedure? All I have seen about these is they need 'expert' handling as touching a Hybrid battery is dangerous as the voltage is DC (grabber) and high (killer).
  13. Thanks for the replies guys. I had sort of assumed that the suspension may be an issue. I have checked the historic MOT's on a few and this seemed to be the main reason for failures - apart from a common problem on some of tyres failing after low mileage - wonder what the 'average' mileage is for these. I used to get about 20 - 30k out of the tyres on my 300 (if my memory serves me well). How long should the battery last, and if the battery failed, what cost are we looking at for repair/replacement - anyone know?
  14. I have been trying to find a decent GS300 for a while with no success so far - so to widen my options I am now thinking I should also consider a 450h as a possibility. I am retired and living on a strict budget with a small amount of capital (comparatively speaking) which is one factor contributing to the problem finding a GS300. Within the capital and budget I have I have fixed on a 2005 GS300 as the road tax doubles on models from 2006 on (within what I can afford to spend for the car). The problems this creates are that there are not as many decent ones of these around and also because it would be over 12 years old there is no chance of buying a warranty for it. (Unless someone knows different). Considering a GS450h widens my choice as the road tax/insurance is within budget and for my money I may find one slightly younger, it also opens the possibility of buying a warranty if the car is no more than 12 years old. Whilst looking I have seen large variances in the asking price for 450's of similar age and mileage, and most are a fair distance from me and quite a distance apart from each other which means I have to somehow short-list before attempting viewing. Can anyone here suggest what issues I should be considering when looking at 450's to help me save myself exposing myself to a 'dud' .
  15. I had a 1994 Lexus GS300 MK1 for almost 10 years until it was written off in 2014. I had bought it with an average annual mileage of approx 5000 pa, and did about the same during the 10 years I had it. Having been spoilt due to the condition and reliability of the car I found it impossible at the time to find a replacement within the limit I could spend (we're retired and very poor). Having now had 4 years of other cars I am pining for a lexus again. I have seen a few, not many, advertised that fit the bill (2005 variants within my budget and an acceptable mileage) that look like they are worth considering, unfortunately they are all miles away from where I live which makes it difficult to view them. Due to my 10 year almost faultless experience with my previous car I have a slightly rose coloured view and sometimes think it may be worth a punt just buying one off page - but then I reconsider and think 'buyer beware'. So, have any of you guys any comments/views/ suggestions how I could proceed.
  16. They wanted 20% to return the car to me and the repair costs would be approx £1500, providing the body shop could find good second hand parts. If not it would be closer to £2000. I have badgered the insurer again and they eventually offered £1200 saying if I wanted more it was an Ombudsman case. I could be hassled with all of that so took the £1200 - which at least was better than the original offer of £850. Not happy about the whole saga, but at least I can move on now.
  17. Thanks guys. I have searched all car sales sites - and nothing. I spoke to the insurer again after my original post and during the conversation they said 'we want to put the insured back to a position they were in prior to the accident' so I suggested they find a replacement vehicle in the same condition - they said that was not possible. They also said that they use two guides, Glasses and one other which they didn't name. They went on to say they could up the offer to the average of the two, and raised it to £1068. So if they went from £800, which they claimed was glasses figure, to £1068 and this was the average, the other guide must be closer to £1300 - so I wonder what guide that was - further investigation needed. PS I don't suppose anyone has a '94 GS300 they want to put up for sale at £1500
  18. Last month my 1994 GS300 was 'written off' (uneconomical to repair according to the insurance co) when some idiot decided to reverse his van without looking and took out the front of my car. I bought the car 12 years ago with 58,000 on the clock and it currently has 110,000. In that time I looked after it meticulously and the bodywork was immaculate (no dents/dings/scratches/rust), the interior was also rip/stain/tear free. In fact last sept I spent £500 on having a dent to the front passenger door repaired and the whole side repainted to restore to pristine condition after someone damaged it in a car park. (In hindsight this was money wasted). The insurance company initially valued the car at £800 but have subsequently increased that to £950 saying this was over the market value as all the vehicles they have seen on Autotrader (their benchmark) were less than their offer. Currently there are no GS of the same vintage for sale. They did however also say that if I could find an example of a similar vehicle (model, age and mileage) for sale for more money they would consider upping the figure to match as they would have justification for doing that. So (without holding out much hope) does anyone here know of anywhere there may be a 1994 Lexus Gs300 with similar mileage up for sale at more than £950. If there are any then maybe I will be able to get them to justify a better offer. TIA
  19. Got the car back from the body shop Friday (they did a superb eye matching job and got the colour spot-on) and had another look at the locking. With the door open I turned the key and released it again, doors locked but drivers door unlocked again. I tried again, but this time held the key turned to the lock position for about a minute before releasing it. Suddenly the locking started working as normal - so all sorted with no work or expense.
  20. Unfortunately it's the local paint supplier that cannot get it right despite having had the car to check their swatches against. Hence the problem. It appears that the colour 046 was changed twice (without changing the code) between being introduced in '93 and discontinued in '96. I have heard that the original colour had a creamy tinge, then changed to white, finally having a pinky tinge to it. It appears that the colour the paint supplier mixed is the white colour, and mine has a slight pinky tinge to it - but they have no record of that. I was hoping someone here may have had contact with a company who had a lot of experience supplying paint for Lexus who may be able to advise on the formulas.
  21. Thanks Royt. Was that with the same colour (046)? Who was the supplier - any contact details??
  22. I have a MK1 GS300 on which someone kindly dropped some timber and dented a door pane badly - then drove off. The paint shop got some paint from the local Paint Factors, and cannot get it to match. Can anyone recommend anywhere that they know that is extremely familiar with using Lexus paint colours, somewhere that he can call to discuss the problem and maybe get some answers. Here is the problem: When I took the car to the paint shop he got a code off it and called the paint factor. (From memory the code was 046). When he gave them the code they said it was listed as a 'Grey', but the car looks a metallic pearlescent white, so they asked me to call in with the car to check against their sample swatches. When I called in they did not have a swatch with the correct code on the shelf. They searched around and found a different swatch in their 'rubbish' which was from a discontinued paint supplier. Their paint expert said it was a match (although to my eye it looked totally different), so they ordered they supplied the paint using the code. Yesterday I had a call from the paint shop saying the paint was a totally different colour and they were going to have to try to resolve the problem or find an alternative source for the paint on Monday next week. The attached photo shows the car (pre-damage) and you can see how the colour changes according to the light falling on it. NOTE: The bottom of the doors and the bumpers are actually a different colour which IS Grey. Any help greatly appreciated.
  23. I thought about that Steve. My wife had a locking problem on her Rover. The auto-electrical centre could not identify the problem and wanted it in for a day (or more) to test. She brought it home (having booked it in for the following week) and when I went out in it that evening I noticed the interior light did not come on when I opened the drivers door. Thinking it was a faulty switch I took it off the door pillar to find the cable disconnected. I fixed it back on and the central locking worked again and has been OK since. I checked the interior light on the Lexus and all the door lights work OK - but I never checked the boot lock/light/switch/solenoid - so maybe that's where the problem is. Thanks for the thought.
