  1. according to lexus manual, the oil type should be 5W-30. has anyone used other types? i use my car for work and do alot of short journeys around traffic. i do use on motorways but not often, possibly once every 2-3months regarding PELA oil extractors. i managed to source one for £35 inc P&P which i will be ordering tomorrow. apparently Mercedes-benz do their oil change this way, but not 100%. i have read some good reviews about it. considering how messy oil changes could be, and i don't have a private drive, or garage, this makes sense and be very practical. for those that are interested, here's the link: http://www.seamarknunn.com/acatalog/PL176634.html :winky:
  2. thanks all once oil is removed, do i need to flush out the engine or something to get rid of any deposits? is so, which one is good. what oil is best for this type of engine (mk1 gs300 sport) look fwd to the tutorial thanks :D
  3. thanks, i've never seen that part of the forum! :winky:

  8. thanks for checking any ideas how to put right? i can't force it down because there is a lip blocking it from behind. the latch does open the boot, but i want it flush back, is it possible to take the casing off that goes around the petrol cap, master lock and boot latch?
  9. hi all i took my car for a drive since the radiator incident. when i got in i noticed this is boot opening latch supposed to protrude like this. i can't remember but it looks odd against the other latch. the hand book shows it flush. can someone check on their car to see , as i suspect the mechanic may have got heavy handed. anyway if it is not supposed to be like this, can anyone let me know how to put it right many thanks rishi

  11. hi all, just to give you guys an update. ended up being just a radiator fault. myself and mechanic wondering why AA man told me it was head gasket. mechanic told me that the fact that i turned engine off the minute it started to overheat saved the engine. car is running ok phew !
  12. thanks guys, i spoke to the mechanic today who asked me a few questions. from the answers i gave he thinks its not the head gasket, but in my mind im telling myself it is, so there's no suprises. there is definatley a leak in the radiator as it just leaks water the minute i fill it. again, no cream like substances, or smoke out of the exhaust. anyway, car will be going to him in a few days, so i hope its just a radiator. i'll keep you posted thanks again
  13. hi thanks for the responses car was running ok monday night. today (tues) i set off to work as normal which is a 3 mile journey to work. i decided to put the heating on but cold air just came out. i started playing around with the temp and fan etc, but it was just cold air. journey was steady 30-40mph max in town driving. after 2 miles the warning light came on. i reached my destination and pulled up. i read the handbook to see if there is anything i could find to trouble shoot. my eye fell on the temp guage which was on H. i quickly turned off engine. i then checked biege coolant box which was empty. i refilled and went to work. came back 90 mins later, and switched on. after a minute temp guage went halfway. i fiddled with the heater and no heat. then temp guage crept over halfway. i turned off engine and checked coolant box. empty. i looked at the floor and floor was wet. i refilled with water and found the radiator leaking. i phoned AA. AA came and put some chemical in the rad. this didn't stop the leak. aa man then done sniffer test and gas came out green, which he said is the head gasket. during the diagnosis the aa man left engine running without cap on radiator. then got towed home. one of my staff used to be a mechanic. he was with me when i phoned the aa. he was shocked to hear that the aa man said it was a blown head gasket. he said if that is the case, the car should be in a worse condition. in the afternoon i had already phoned my mechanic and told him, and he said he could do the job. but my staff (david) told me to get a second opinion and let mechanic know before he orders HG. this is why im enquiring about diagnosing HG. thanks for the helpful comments/replies
  14. thanks for that the car engine has been off since 13:00 today i have just checked oil cap and there is no "creamy" substance. anything else i should check? thanks in advance
  15. hi all sad news. my gs300 mk1 was diagnosed with a broken radiator and a blown head gasket. the aa man was kind enough to tow me home. one of my friends was saying that he does not think its the head gasket, as the car would be in a worst state. i read the thread on overheating, but can anyone give me tips as to how to tell if the HG is gone. this way i can tell the mechanic as he is taking on board what the aa guy said. thanks
  16. thanks guys got one off a seller on ebay, brand new £111.00 i can fit it myself
  17. hi all im trying to source an exhaust box for my gs300 sport. it actually fell off the other day whilst driving. so im after a new one. no one can seem to get hold of it thanks
  18. thanks for the tips guys. remote is working ok so far. the link that was given is talking about resetting the fob, which i think may work if my troubles contiue. i actually reset my number 2 fob in the same exact manner and worked
  19. hi did you do the paintwork too? what is the product/model no of the item from screwfix?
  20. hi don't think about doing it, do it! had my gs300 sport converted. company i used was http://www.agpl.co.uk/about-lpg.htm if you need to speak to someone, ask for gary, very very knowledgable. see if you can get a bigger tank than 55ltrs. if i knew i would have got something bigger. hope that helps finest1
  21. hi all, this has been happening on odd occasions, but its still annoying. sometimes when i go to unlock the car, it won't unlock. sometimes i have to wait a long period of time or sometimes it might just work. today was worse, but i noticed something i didn't before. when i looked at the fob, the little led light was constantly on. it wouldn't clear. in the end i had to manually unlock the car, open the boot (yes, alarm screamed throughout the car park) and get my screwdriver. i basically opened the fob, waited 10 secs and put it back together again. so what is going on with it? thanks finest1
  22. thanks all, hemel is too far for me. i can't access parts of the website, i wanted to get prices just to see what is offered thanks
