  1. hi all, i thought i'd update you all and close this thread thanks for your input thanks to ishaq, its a pity i read your post 1 day late as i had already bought a battery. in the end i bought an after market battery. those that are interested its called starting bull banner battery. a friend at work has a relative that works in auto spares and got me it for £65, £20 off RRP. a few learning points: dimensions of OEM battery are: 225mm to top of node terminal 255mm wide 170mm depth make sure the terminals are the right way round, specify this if you buy on line i had no clue, major oversight, the battery needed maintenance. i didn't even notice it in the manual, and the amount of time i have opened the bonnet. i suppose because i had no electrical issues i had forgot about it totally. if i knew, a top up could have saved the price of a battery, or given me a few months to a year. upon removing the battery the water had gone down to "low level" so please go and check your batteries and top up if need be according to ishaq, lexus batteries cost £89. i was so shocked, if i knew i would have bought them as all research was showing that price anyway. £89 for an OEM battery is good value. learning point: phone the dealer and ask. i assumed it would be expensive! when your battery starts to fail, the car won't fire up first time as normal, and you may see errors on the reverse camera, warning signs! check battery when i changed battery, i didn't have to reset windows. i did not lose many presets. this depends how depleted your battery is. just be aware of resetting memory functions after battery change. OEM batteries last a long time. mine lasted 8 years, could have gone longer. my friend at work also has a is250 but a year older, he's still got the original battery. difference is, his mechanic friend also does his MOT, and always tops fluid up as courtesy. having said that, he rushed and got some distilled water. his battery level happened to be a little low. i just saved him his battery.
  2. welcome, its a great car, you'd love it once you learn all the little refinements. if its got good service history you shouldn't worry. for piece of mind you can either get a local garage to do an oil change for you, best buy your own oil and filter, so you pay for labour only. or carry a 1ltr oil with you just in case.
  3. yes, plugs are done at 60k. it also depends if the car has not been used much, ie left for long periods of time not being used. i wouldn't go as far as call them "rip offs" as they service your car properly and a properly serviced car would sell quickly if you ever did sell it.
  4. @normski2 i was just thinking to get the car going until i find a battery as i need it for work. can someone check those links i posted to see if those batteries are any good thanks,
  5. further update; upon further inspection, the battery matches the description in the manual. the manual describes topping up the battery with distilled water. i can't tell if the fluid level has gone below the low level indicator. however, i did see an indicator with three markings: battery ok, needs topping up (red), (white) needs charging. it looks to be on the white marking. does this mean all i have to do is top up the battery and jump start it. once it runs it should charge? thanks
  6. hi all, this is the closest i could get to the dimensions. the height and depth is same to my old battery, but shorter in length. would it be any good? http://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/battery-type/005l/005l-bosch-car-battery/ http://www.tayna.co.uk/005L-Enduroline-Car-Battery-550CCA-P8399.html finest
  7. thanks for your help guys. no i won't stretch the cables, i want an easy install, so won't take any short cuts
  8. thanks for you response does battery dimensions matter? as i've seen some with the correct terminal placing but different dimensions?
  9. hi all, first off my car: 2006 is250 se-l auto petrol my car battery needs replacing. looking at the current set up the terminals are close to the edge of the engine bay. all the other battery's that have been recommended to me the terminals are the opposite. what batteries do you guys use, where did u get it, and rough price guide. for example please see pics many thanks finest1
  10. kev, just been on the wot not website do you know the name or product ID/name for the engine clips? thanks
  11. sorry all i have posted in the wrong place. i have created a new post in the IS250 section. MOD please delete. if you wish to contribute, please post in the IS250 section sorry
  12. hi all, happy xmas to you all!! ok, im coming up to my first oil change. the manual says use 0w20 grade oil (expensive and not many places sell them). i was in halfords and i checked their catalogue and they recommend 5w30. what oils are you guys using and had best performance with. i've clocked 91k on the clock. i was thinking of magnatec , but open to suggestions thanks in advance finest1 :hocus-pokus:

  14. IS250 ! make sure its the SE-L model. all the bells and whistles you could ever think of.
  15. i start engine and wait minimum 5-7 minutes before driving off. when i do drive off im not heavy on the acc pedal
  16. i was really shocked to see the RX300 and 400 does not come with parking sensors. i was helping my brother source an RX300 and kept arguing with him when he said they don't come with PS. ( i was assuming it does!). i am very very puzzled as to why parking sensors on a big vehicle like that does not come as standard. very strange when parking sensors come standard in most cars from 2002 onwards. my is250 comes with camera and sensors. does anyone know why lexus decided on this?
  17. sorry to bump this guys, but i am still looking for a set. if anyone has a set to sell, PM me thanks
  18. i owned a GS300 sport Mk1 and changed it to an IS250 SE-L. no issues regarding both! they are well built cars! i cannot complain. if you are worried, there's always ford or BMW but you wont get value for money!!
  19. hi all, i would like to upgrade my 17" standard alloys to 18" mirroring the is250 sport look. ideally i would like to have the lexus is 250 sport alloys, but i just can't get hold of them, unless some one is selling, then i'll be interested! failing that i have to go aftermarket. when im looking at the stock photos i can't imagine what it would be like on my car, so if any of you have put after market alloys, can you please post some pics as i'd like to get some ideas many thanks finest1
  20. wow! thanks for all your feedback. im actually dissapointed. i really thought that i'd be "upgrading" if i went for one of these. i was ideally looking for more leg room and boot space. i didn't realise there were so many unhappy drivers! its a good thing i didn't rush out and get one!! would these comments apply to the RX300? thanks again
  21. hi all, im currently driving the IS250 SEL I've always had my eye on the RX400 and i would like to get some proper experiences from owners. i do mostly local trips for my work, so im wondering if i will be saving on petrol. there is a rumour saying the battery needs changing or problematic when it reaches 6-7 years old, wondering what you think of this. another thing i wanted to know, is the interior more spacious than an IS250? when going to view 2005/6/7 cars, what should i be looking out for? any other experiences, please respond, no matter how trivial many thanks finest
  22. hi all, does anyone know where and if these are available? $280 is quite steep i think http://www.cargym.co...kit-p-1327.html look fwd to the responses thanks finest1
  23. thanks for the info, owners handbook says 30 at the front and 32 at the rear. didn't realise it should be that low. tyre wear seems ok at the moment, none showing in one place, looks even to me. one other thing, if i was going on the motorway, should i adjust the pressure?
  24. hi all im a bit confused regarding the tyre pressure. i have the standard tyre set up on my is250 sel which is: front: 225 45 R17 rear: 255 45 R17 what tyre pressure do you guys use? i wasn't sure so i put 32psi in the front and 34psi in the rear thanks finest1 :winky:
  25. hi all, i wonder if anyone has for sale, or know anyone, or any breakers yards where i can get a set of IS250 sport alloys. incase you don't know what they look like, here's an example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-250-SPORT-4DR-1-Owner-Silver-FSH-/310294552240?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item483eff1eb0 i just love the look of them, and would like to change my 17" to these. thanks finest1
