  1. hi welcome to the forum. im having this problem in my older gs300. after months of troubleshooting i found where it is, but i'll tell you the troubleshooting guide, as i hope its not as bad as mine! if your demister light comes on, the its not the fuse, but good to check it anyway as it may simply need reseating. there is fuse box in the engine bay, and another one where the accelerator pedal is, well at least on the mk1's. it could have been moved to the passenger side where your shins would be if you were seated. once you locate the fuses, reseat or take them out and examine them. if this does not work you can check the lines for any breaks on the rear window. all it takes is a small break in the circuit. there is a way of checking for this with a bit of foil and multimeter, you can find this on the net. if that pans out to be ok, then you may have what i have. you may have to remove the side panels by the rear headrest that slopes to the rear windows. depending where your terminals are, mine are on the left. anyway when i removed mine, there is a 2 prong terminal. this weathered away and became brittle. i think when i went over a speed bump it broke. you won't be able to solder it, and you can't superglue it as super glue is not conductive. basically you're screwed like i am!! you need someone with a good knowledge of electronics to help you fix it. my builder said he can do it, but i haven't seen him yet. i hope you'rs is not as bad as mine!! good luck finest1
  2. hi all, after changing the rear tyres and having all four balanced, i took my gs300 sport mk1 for a trip from london to devon and back. i forgot how this car excels once its in its element. the response in power/sport mode and ease the car was on the motorway was unreal. also i had 2 passengers at the back. when i switched driver at bristol, i thought i'd sit in the back for the first time since owning the car. i just couldn't believe how smooth and luxurious sitting at the rear was! so much so i fell asleep! my Brother in law had never driven a lex or my car before, and just couldn't believe how good it was! on the way back from devon pretty much the same, great power, smooth ride. i realised that on both trips i didn't feel tired, or worn out from the trip. it just got me thinking of how a newer gs300 or gs450 must feel like to drive and be driven in. great car! all i have to do now is remove all the dead bugs off the front!! finest1 :D
  3. try changing the battery first of resetting it by removing and replacing batter for 10 secs. this is what i have to do regularly to my lex
  4. hi all, thanks for all your responses. i thought i'd update you all: i changed the rear tyres which i was intending to do anyway (275/35/18's), got them balanced, and balanced the front tyres too. this seems to have cured the problem. the rear tyres make such a big difference its unreal. i think it was a combination of rear unbalanced tyres. anyway problems solved! thanks :D
  5. hi i forgot to add that prior to my journey i did pump up tyres to recommended spec thanks
  6. hi all, i was driving on the motorway today and noticed something very concerning. as i was driving at motorway speed, i noticed the rear of the car swaying, which meant i had to constantly compensate with the steering, and its quite stressful too. i know my tyres at the rear, are worn, and im getting them changed next week, but i was wondering if there was more to it. the motorway was dry today, but obviously worried if it rained, which it didn't. any ideas what it could be, or is it simply the rear tyres? many thanks finest1
  7. hi Phil, welcome to the forum first off, it may be a good idea to upload some pics so we can see what you are talking about, also its always nice to see a gs300 sport!! check out Ebay, as i have bought generic parts for mine off there, and some specialise in japanese cars. worth checking out. another thing is to contact a member called "tigerfish", he's very knowledgable with that particular model and you can find his tutorials in the "maintainance" section. good luck finest1 B)
  8. thanks guys sound advice. crunching all this info, i've slowly gone off the idea of buying the car. yes the seller was honest enough to give me the info, but for me its just too much hassle, and it will play on my mind. seller claims it was a low impact crash, but low impact could mean different things to different people. i've seen a 55 plate for sale, so im after that one now. im not desperate for a new car, as my gs300 is still running smooth. my best friend turned up to my house in a audi q7 (a tank!)this evening, ugly thing, but when you sit in it, it changes your whole perception on driving, just like the is250 sel did. so anything is up for grabs!! :D
  9. thanks for your replies. just to update you. spoke with seller today and he told me the car had a prang. he claims it was low speed and it was at the front crumple zone. anyway, the front end was replaced by an insurance approved garage using lexus parts and full respray. i'm actually not sure whether i will buy it now, sort of put me off, although the photos look great....any thoughts?
  10. thanks for your encouraging replies people! so if i get the car, i can go to lexus and take out a warranty? does anyone know approx costs for warranty? what does it cover exactly? does it cover the gadgets in case something stops working? finest1
  11. hi all, i've been looking for an IS250 SE-l for a while and i've found one which i like. thing is its done higher than average mileage. the car is an 07 plate and done 70k on the clock. the thing is the car appeals to my budget, as i could go for a 55 or 06 plate with slightly lower mileage for approx same price band. i spoke to seller, who sounded very genuine. he is a MD of his own company and owned the car brand new. he has lexus finance on his name, and the mileage is all motorway miles. he has full lexus service history and he said the last service at 60k was a full service. he's looking for quick sale as he has 2 cars and needs to sell both to get a people carrier type car (ford galaxy) for his family. i work local so i'd probably add 6500miles on it a year so over another 2 years would bring it up to 83k which may even out the mileage a bit. sorry if im rambling i've got to make a decision during this week! any help would be appreciated, especially with members with higher than average mileage. what do you think? thanks finest1
  12. hi guys, my a/c is just blowing out hot air. someone said it could have a leak. does anyone know what exactly the work entails to fix the leak? it sounds scary when someone says your leaking gas!! but wondering if they will just pour some sort of fluid which seals leaks. can anyone recommend a/c servicing/repairs etc? thanks
  13. hi i converted my gs300 sport mk1 2 years ago. no issues at all! i used this company http://hertsautogas.co.uk/ they are friendly, know they're stuff. there are lot of other places that will scare you off, simply because they don't know how to install the kit, or just supply one type of kit. one size does not fit all. i paid £1900 in total. check them out for a quote, but i would highly recommend them! good luck! :)
  14. hi all im in the market for an IS250 but must be SE-L model. one came up which is a 2006 plate, but has done 107,000 miles!! seller confirms lexus service history and motorway miles. does any of you have high mileage is250's and if so, whats your experiences. should i consider it, or move on? thanks finest1 :)
  15. hi im in the market for an IS250. have any of you heard of a self parking one? thanks finest
  16. hi all, GS300 sport MK1 whilst on a main road, some idiot decided to just pull out of a side road. anyway i had to emergency brake. after stopping at my desination a few mins later i noticed that my fuel indicator is on Empty. it was previously on the first bar. is this normal. do i need to reset something? im thinking it may be a fuel shut off when involved in an accident, or if you hit the brakes or ABS. anyone come across this? thanks finest
  17. thanks, how would we tell if its single piston?
  18. hi all, my friend just picked up the following car: Toyota Altezza RS200 2.0 Automatic Model is: SXE10 he needs to buy some parts like brake disc, oil filter, etc. do any of you know any online sites/ebay stores that sell parts at reasonable prices? many thanks finest1
  19. hi i did my mk1 2 years ago no probs. i got the brc with flashlube for £2k mark. company was www.hertsautogas.co.uk in cobham off A1. a very good prefessional firm. give them a call if you like finest1
  20. can you describe exactly how i can diagnose this with a multimeter? if i was for example opening my boot from the outside, so im facing the rear window , which will be the positive side? i have a multimeter which looks exactly like this: multimeter how can i use this to diagnose the wires? thanks
  21. hi all, im really suffering with this problem which is still not cured. i've checked the fuses and they are not blown. there is also a fuse box in the inside of the drivers cockpit by the accelerator pedal. fuses are not blown. i can't figure out why the demister is not working. any ideas?
  22. hi all, i have a gs300 mk1 when i put the radio or CD player on i get a horrible hissing "static" noise. when i raise the volume by turning the knob clockwise, around 11 o clock the hissing stops, but this is too loud. the stereo system works find except for this. any ideas how to fix thanks
  23. hi all, i noticed that the rear window demister doesn't seem to be working properly, or at all. usually even on light rain drops, the function will work as you can see the lines clearing it away. the past four days it hasn't worked. i tested it today with my 20min journey home, and i would safely say if faulty. the strange thing is the button on the centre console illuminates. has anyone had this before. can someone help me diagnose and hopefully solve the problem? my car is gs300 sport mk1 thanks :)
  24. yes, the strip brake light on the parcel shelf is working, i initially thought it was that, but its not. i will top up brake fluid and see will update later
  25. hi its the exclamation icon near the oil and ECT/PWR light. i had a puncture repaired a week before it started. usually if a light bulb burns it appears, so thats why i checked all my lights, but unfortunately its not a light bulb. rick, can i self diagnose the car?
