  1. I don't know what you mean by the second stage of locking or unlocking, and I might be stating the obvious here, but to unlock the boot on my 2000 LS I have to hold the button on the remote down for about five seconds. I hope this helps. Redsteve.
  2. when I have been off-roading I usually end up with a horn that is weak. It gets clogged up with mud. If you have been following traffic that has been kicking up dirty spray you might have the same problem. A blast with the hose pipe sorts mine out, maybe yours will be the same. Good luck. Redsteve
  3. Hello all. I too, have this same lightweight vibration through the throttle pedal. My car is a 2000 with 140000 miles on the clock. It only seems to occur at very low revs ie. when pulling away from a standing start and it seems to be more often than not when the engine and gearbox are cold. I haven't had a chance to have a good look under the car yet to see if anything is loose but nothing in the engine bay seems to be wrong. If I find the problem I will let you know. Redsteve.
  4. Pale pink, cherry red.... either will be OK, when the trans starts to wear it leaves particles in the oil, it then starts to go brown and look like clean engine oil so as long as it doesn't look like that I'm sure you will be fine Pete Thanks for that Pete. The fluid is nice and clean so it looks as though everything is OK. It's one less thing to worry about. Redsteve.
  5. Hi guys. I have been reading a few topics on the forum and a lot of posts refer to the ATF being a "cherry red" colour. I have checked mine and it is a pale pink colour when cold, (I haven't checked it when it is hot). The car has a full Lexus service history. Does this seem right to you guys? Should I just check it when it is hot, does it change colour according to temperature? Thanks. Redsteve.
  6. That is a really interesting read, it sure does dispel a few myths. I will be trying my hardest to adjust my driving style to prolong the life of my pads and discs. Thanks for the linky. Redsteve.
  7. Hi there TMB, my car was also suffering from brake judder until yesterday. I took it to a small, family owned tyre and exhaust fitter and asked him to balance all four wheels for me. All the wheels already had weights on them but, when they were re-balanced the fitter told me that it was almost impossible to balance wheels as wide as mine (standard LS size) without putting weights on the inside edge of the rim (near the tyre) and also closer to the centre of the wheel rim. I have done about 50 miles today and my brake judder has gone! I hope you can get yours sorted as easily as mine was. Let us know how you get on. Redsteve.
  8. I couldn't resist trying it - and it works! Thanks Redsteve, saved for future reference. Jon Yippee, I was a bit scared in case it was the self destruct code. Redsteve.
  9. You can now buy a conversion clutch and bellhousing kit to slot the Lexus engine into a Toyota Hilux 4x4. After fitting the good old Rover 3.5lt V8 into one of my old Hilux I would imagine that the Lexus powered one would be a bit of an animal! I would advise you to try and fit the Lexus gearbox as well though as even the relatively small amount of horsepower and torque from the Rover V8 destroys the Hilux gearbox in no time at all...I speak from experience. Redsteve.
  10. When I bought my LS I was told that you can override the need for the code, I am not sure if this is the info that you need but it might be worth a try. I have not tried this myself, it came on a seperate piece of paper in my Sat Nav and Stereo instruction book. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (combination meter warning lights illuminated) While pressing CLIMATE and AUDIO switches simultaneously, turn the HEADLIGHT CONTROL SWITCH in the following sequence: OFF~SIDE LIGHTS~OFF~SIDE LIGHTS~OFF~SIDE LIGHTS The SYSTEM CHECK will become displayed on the screen. It will take approx. 30 seconds for the check to be completed - the display will change from CHECKING to OK Once all the function checks display OK then press MENU. The DIAGMENU will be displayed Starting with the AUDIO button, follow the sequence: AUDIO~DESTINATION~AUDIO~DESTINATION~AUDIO~DESTINATION The SECURITY menu will be displayed. Using the numeric keys enter 440215. Press ENTER The displaywill return to the DIAGMENU. Switch the IGNITION SWITCH to the OFF position. The security code is now cleared - the unit will operate normally. PLease ensure that a new security code is re-entered with the customers knowledge. As I said before I have no idea if this will work, maybe you can let us know how you get on... Redsteve.
  11. Hi all, mine is a 2000 with 140,000 miles on the clock. Other than a slight vibration through the brake pedal at high speed it all seems to be OK. Redsteve.
  12. Thanks once again for the warm welcome. I am just about to have my dinner and then it's bedtime for me...I have to get up way too early. :tsktsk: I hope to be able to get on here for a decent amount of time after the kids have gone back to school and things calm down a bit at work. Chat soon. Redsteve.
  13. Thanks for the welcome guys. I need to give my new puppy some TLC before the pictures go up, she has full history but she needs a good scrub inside and out! :( Redsteve.
  14. Hi everyone, I have just joined up so I thought I would make myself known. I have just bought myself an LS400 (2000) after a three year gap from when I sold my last LS400 (1994). I had forgotten just how nice they are. I hope to be on here on a regular basis so I can join in the fun and learn lots of new stuff. Work is a bit hectic at the moment so it might be a couple of weeks before I have much time to settle in properly. I am looking forward to getting to know you all. Redsteve.
