  1. :D http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=56752 As suggested by Steviewevie I joined www.detailingworld.co.uk and put the above thread up in one of their forums and wondered, will I get anything back? Within a minute the first emails started landing and within 48 hours I got more information back than I could possibly assimilate. This really is a total understatement & I have to admit, it was quite intimidating at first with all the different types of preparation, cleaning, polishing, finishing & LSP products being recommended. I've learnt more about the different techniques & product applications for keeping your paint work beautiful than I ever thought possible. Yesterday I went to a local detailing meet in Berkshire with the guys and can only say I learnt more about car cleaning, polishes, waxes, sealants, glazes and LSP's than I ever realised existed a few weeks back. In conclusion, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this site to anyone who has an open mind and is searching for a brilliant unblemished finish to their pride and joy. You will probably get a head ache and wonder what you have let yourself in for but the journey is a good one and the road ahead will soon become clearer. If you hadn’t guessed, I am already addicted and can’t wait, my weapons of choice have been ordered tonight and I can’t wait to put my new found knowledge to the test. The good thing is (like the LOC ) I haven’t met any kind of protectionism what so ever on idea's and the members are more than willing to help as and when you need them. I have even had offers from members to come to my home and help me with my first detail. The good news is I have a 'donar car' (1976 bright orange TR7) being delivered Monday or Tuesday to practice upon and if I can make that shine there shouldnt be any doubts about my beautiful LS. For what its worth, I hope this helps someone, my weapons of choice are :- Meguiars G220 (its heavier than the Kestrel and balanced ) :) Paintwork : Valet Pro PH Neautral Snow / 2BM Wash with Meg's Shampoo plus / DoDo juice gentle clay / Meg's 83 & 80 machined with G220 & cleaned between each pass with Meg's Last Touch / Zaino AIO / followed by alternate layers of Zaino Z5 & Z6 / Repeat / Repeat / DoDo Juice Banana Armour or Collinite 476s & Zaino Z8 Grand Finale Spray Seal. Stand back, look smug and then realise you forgot the Wheels & Tyres. Alloys : Bilberry wheel cleaner / Wheel Wax / Opti-seal clear sealent. Rubber : Meguiars Hot Shine
  2. Sat here reading your note getting embarrased for the Lexus name. No I'm not a deler but one reason I got mine was for the (hopefully not forgotten) legenday service quality I had heard of from LOC member Rillo and others. This is your time to put a quick not in the dealer review section and hopefully like I did review this fully before selecting where and who I purchased my Lexus from. If your car is out of warrenty and lexus service stamp isnt of much value Im sure we can find you a good independant. !! Keep us up dated.
  3. Me too, have only just moved over from the dark side (Jaguar) but already have nothing but complements about Swindon and in particular Megan at Birmingham who has called me three times to try and sort a little problem the forums gave me good information to work with. Top marks to Swindon and Birmingham. I have also had one not quite to so pleasurable experience that I sincerely hope was a one off. Check my review for Swindon dealership and read between the lines. Mike S
  4. Quite a few nokia phones seem to have this issue with bluetooth car kits in general. My N95 is the same with the parrot ck3100 I have (my sony erricson works perfectly I just hate the SE so didn't want to keep it). The method mentioned above works for my setup too, select all contact and bluetooth them to the car kit. Does mean that it won't automagically sync the contacts either so you would need to send them manually if you add any other contacts to the phone. Thank you thank you Thank you !!! much appreciated.
  5. Many thanks indeed, this gives me some hope and something else to try.
  6. I had a similar problem with my Samsung , paired OK, worked OK , but could not transfer numbers. Another poster suggested Sony Ericsson's usually worked, I had an old one lying around so transfered my numbers to this, and from this to the car, and it worked a treat. Andrew Hi Andrew, thanks for the heads up. I still have my old phone but suspect it to is not capable of the task iether. I originaly bought it from a Mr Flintstone, should I remember correctly Bluetooth was still just a twinkle in someones eye back then. Be careful out there !! Mike S
  7. Thanks Stevie, have been reading up as much as possible at the moment, I never thought I could be intimidated by something until recently I thought I had a pretty good handle on. All the best. Mike
  8. Hope this helps. It does work and sounds great. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=56509
  9. Agreed, this doesnt smell right. We made a decision two years ago anyone calling by phone or writing to us who wanted DOB's or any other private information to rufuse it. The good news is our bank has even stopped cold calling us to sell us stuff. They have finally realised if we want something we will phone them. If it doesnt look right and it doesnt smell right it's almost certainly not right. All the best. If it is important they will come back !!
  10. Hi detailers, cleaning polishing finishing guru's, For a long time now I have always used blood, sweat, tears and elbow grease to make our cars look fantastic, or so I thought. Pressure washer to clear off all the :tsktsk: , warm water wash with a good car shampoo, rinse and shammy dry after a quick bash around the block and wax ( turtle wax ) polish and gloss guard to finish. Swirls and super fine imperfections thought to be par for the course for all my troubles. I am now thinking the arms and spine are most certainly not as good as they used to be and the thought of electro mechanical help is quite appealing especially if the results are to be better than arm power alone. Speed/time isnt really an issue, I do have the time and want to do the best job possible to make it shine!! Looking through the detailing section on the LOC two names seem to pop up regularly, the Meguiars G220 & the Kestrel DA S-6 Q1 : Any thoughts appreciated on the best machine ( 2 spare motor brushes shipped with the Kestrel automatically worries me, are they expecting it to pack up ? ) my days of taking toys apart and hope of seeing if I could put them back together and have them working have long since gone. They never worked again, Ive learnt my lesson. I have two cars, a Land Cruiser (kids taxi) in dark Blue and a Sable LS. Paintwork on the LS is excellent but doesnt look stunning and average on the Land Cruiser (Grundon) given it has lived outside for the last three years and has four children abuse it and a wife who takes pleasure in driving through as much mud as she can find. Guess what, she's never cleaned it either !! Q2 : Can I use the same polishes/wax/sealant on both cars ?? I would much rather be VERY conservative and leave a few marks on the Land Cruiser, I dont want to take any chances with the LS !!! Any help. hints and tips, idiots guide to machine polishing, and best mix of products to be used etc etc you can share with me to safeguard our paintwork would be most gratefully appreciated. Big thanks to Jim (jsj24uk) !! your thoughts, advice very much appreciated, I look forward to seeing your beautiful LS.
  11. Hi Mike, glad your sorted, did you use the given solution or the big screw driver ?? I remember reading that solution a few weeks ago and thought, thats bound to be asked sooner or later. For what its worth, I do very few miles now and will only get the car out of the garage once every week or two. Due to spinal injuries sustained a few years ago I only drive when I have to drive and when I do it has to be comfortable, hence the LS. For years now I have used an Optimate III SP (http://www.batterychargerreviews.co.uk/tecmate/tecmate-optimate-3-sp-charger/) and swear by it. Its not so much as a charger but conditioner that tops it up when it needs it and best of all makes sure your not let down when you need the car. Have a good one, all the best. Mike (s face)
  12. Hi Mike, hope this helps Recent post. Best of luck http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=52648
  13. Hi there, I've been trawling the internet but thought I'd float this one in the LOC just in case. My Nokia N96 will pair with my Lexus LS's factory fitted ML bluetooth kit no problem but it will not let me transfer the phonebook from the phone to the car's memory. This could easily be a problem between the seat and the keyboard, so apologies if the answer is in front of my eyes. Any ideas why? answers how would be gratefully appreciated, also it wont work, stop looking also appreciated. SORTED !!! :winky: Many thanks to TigerFish & gibbo37 !! It did help QUOTE (TigerFish @ Jan 22 2009, 09:33 AM) QUOTE (gibbo37 @ Jan 22 2009, 09:10 AM) I'm not sure if this helps or not but I was able to transfer all of my contacts to my GS450h using a Nokia N95. In the phonebook of my Nokia I was able to select all contacts and then send them as a business card to the car, I'm sure the car had to be in receiving mode too, which if I remember correctly is somewhere in the phone settings of the car?? I hope this helps. Using the information above go to phonebook, settings, transfer phone book, overwrite phonebook, message appears : " send contact info from phone !! it worked !! well pleased all two hundred contact and information transfered in less than 30 seconds.
  14. Looks great and the spec is the "dogs bits", what it doesnt do isnt worth having. My only concern would be the facia is not removable and such a great looking head unit is going to attract attention. If there were a blanking plate you could cover it with when you park up it might give you a little more protection from the smash and grab toe rag brigade.
  15. DJ, many thanks : Top Of The Pops Baby yes. Old bu99er, almost certainly according to my kids but had a quick check through the itunes library and can say hand on heart, Des doesnt live here !! :-)
  16. Got my first LS just before Christmas and it came with a very poorly integrated ipod kit that saw the ipod as a single CD/DVD with no selection for/by named playlists or track names. Not Good ! After much trawling of LOC members and Lexus dealers one even to tell me, "that is how it was supposed to work with your car", the issue has been successfuly resolved. I now have access to select by 6 named playlists (in alphabetical order, easy to edit playlist names in itunes library to get your favourites at the top) and can scroll or skip through 99 named tracks per playlist controlable via the stearing wheel or ML head unit. The good bit !! There are two lexus ipod integration kits I know of (not a definative number) but both my LS and Chriso's GS have identical part numbers. I believe the two part numbers are dependent upon your Lexus having a CD or DVD changer, irresepective of model of vehicle. Those with a CD changer the part number ends in 3 and those with a DVD changer ending in 4. This also works with both my original ipod and my son's brand new 120GB version. The part number of the integration kit originally fitted to my car was a : PZ47300263-A0 & unfortunately it came in a : PZ47300264-A0 package and was not checked before it was originally fitted. Apparently they are virtually identical. The 4 varient has now been fitted and its great, no degridation in sound quality some have reported in previous threads and as far as I am concerned worth the money. Given there are multiple units and the content are not always guaranteed to be exactly as described on the packaging it may be worth checking. I havent added any pictures as according to the dealer my playlists are embarrasingly naff and my kids are worried about me losing the last ounce of street cred I have left. Hope this helps someone !! I am now well happy & completely love my Lex.
  17. And so endeth todays sermon !! p.s. cant agree more !! we aint rip off Britain for nothing.
  18. Apologies for raising the head of what appears to be a sore subject again but trawling through the forums I cant find an answer. I really would be very, very grateful for anyone with a definative answer / resolution to pass it on. I cant be the only LS owner with this problem, can I ?? Late last year I took delivery of my long awaited and much overdue LS460 SE-L I had been promising myself since LOC member Rillo converted me with his 430 (the delay was down to my own personal circumstances & then finding the right car) I spec'd the car with the ipod integration kit as the only additional luxury item I wanted. Two days in, still with a huge smile on my face and loving my investment I called the local dealer while waiting for the kids to emerge from school to ask how to get the ipod to work. The friendly sales guy directed me to the head unit of the radio and told me to press the AUX button between the DISC and the FM buttons. As you can imagine, it all went quiet when I explained there wasnt an AUX button on my radio head unit. This I have since found out were fitted to the Oct 07 onward ML units. Mine is a Sept unit. All I seem to get is the ipod seen as a single CD playing the entire library. No playlist names, no track names. All in all not what was expected. I've checked this with two ipods, mine that is three or four years old and my son's which is brand new with the same result. Any help very much appreciated. Thankyou ! and apologies for any repetition.
  19. Hi there TeesLS, strange but true, I too was looking for a good late, low mileage LS430, thought I had one and got the local dealer to have it shipped south. (its not in there yet 15/12 @ 22:50 but I have just reveiwed the Swindon dealership, at the bottom of the LOC home page "review your Lexus Dealer Today, that should explain all & if they allow it will probably leave you a little surprised) However, today was the day when my LS460 SE-L Sable with light grey interior arrived home. Thankfully it didnt rain today and got home as dry and gleeming as it was when it was driven out of the showroom 30 minutes earlier. To say I am already smitten is an understatement. I would love to know if you still feel the same. Its taken me far to long before buying myself a little luxury and compaired to my recent Jaguars and E63 experience it truly is in a different league. Fingers crossed we still feel the same in a few years. All the very best, happy and comfortable driving. Mike
  20. Hi Pete. Looking at your MRI/X-Rays made me swallow very hard indeed, I know what back pain is, I live with it 24/7. I really do know exactly where you are coming from and later this morning will hopefully be picking up my LS460 to add a little creature comfort in my life. I too have a very second hand spine with T11/T12 & L1 looking like three consecutive pieces of edam cheese after an RTA in 2005 for the pleasure of being a rear seat passenger. All things being equal the LS will allow me to drive for more than 30 minutes without being crippled the next day. Ive tried to drive as many cars as possible over the last few weeks and can only describe the demonstrator I had as a magic carpet ride. It's too late now to go back as it's all paid for and this one will have to last a good few years. I really do wish you all the best and hope you find the comfort you are looking for. (me too)
  21. Hi there all. another new member who found you on the web via the G search engine. I have been promising myself a late low mileage 430 for a few years now since a serious road traffic accident that has left my spine a bit banged up. Comfort is obviously paramountg and by now I should have taken delivery of said vehicle. Unfortunately and very surprisingly it was a lemon ( the size of a melon) and had to go back to where it came from. Joined the LOC to (a) meet similar likeminded people who appreciate quality and (B) pick up an chit chat on various issues (good bad or ugly) about the 430 and hopefully prepare myself for what I can expect. I have had two nearly new Jaguar's over the last ten years and can only describe the experience as disappointing. Can anyone else remember having to replace windscreen wiper motors in both vehicles unfortunately just out of warrently. On that subject : as said earlier, I'm again looking for a gem two/three years old and it would be great to hear any thoughts on post manufacturues warrenty / issues and potential failures that are usual for a two three and four year old 430. Thanks in advance for any information, the garage is clear, cleaned and ready. Very best regards :winky:
