  1. Hello Gentle men: Thank you for your sympathy, views, advise, and knowledge.I am going down to Lexus tomorrow to see if they find out what the problem is, the more I read what you have said, and the more I think about it, I am now convinced something has got down into the engine I went down there on Saturday morning to have a look at it, and I noticed that the cover where the cables from the ( coils/distributors ) lie in a small sort of trench was missing, when I asked them where it was the ANSWER WAS---- ERR I DON'T KNOW !!! maybe the "Tooth" Fairy during Friday night had it away. So tomorrow dawns a new day and the Heavy Artillery wants to come with me( SHMBO) I said NO!!!! ----now my other eye is swollen---I might learn one day but when??
  2. They don't know what happened so they are going to look at it on Monday and try to find the cause of the noise.
  3. Steve-No the noise developed after new starter was fitted-you know what a Lexi runs like as smooth as a babies bum
  4. Well things have got worse--Lexus phoned me about a loud noise coming from the bottom end of the engine, so I went down this morning and it sounds similar to someone in side with a hammer trying to get out, it is still down there so they are going to have a look at it on Monday and then let me know what they have found if anything. This year up till now I have spent on parts £3,576 so it looks like it is time to get rid, one problem is who would have it. As I have nowhere to park it,where to put it to strip it down to remove some of the parts (part new exhaust, new starter motor, new battery- etc.,etc.,etc. No more Green cars thank you.. :yack:
  5. Hello Malc:I think I made a slight mistake: I also had a service +Mot done(break down of cost)TOTAL LABOUR £679---TOTAL PARTS £1248-54---TOTAL SUNDRIES £62---V.A.T.£390-11---GRAND TOTAL£2379-65 so it was a large bill, tomorrow it comes out from the shop, after having a new starter fitted so I will post the bill when I get it, Cheers
  6. Hello Adam: I don't think you can do it on the U.K.cars I tried to find out so when I go to France it would be easy apparently this option was only on the U.S.A.models which had a change over switch on the back of the headlight if you find out that it can be done let me know, please
  7. Well boys it looks like that I have been taken for a BIG long ride, I got a tutorial from Lextreme on the web and down loaded it All 16 pages of it.I must say that it is very good and informative, but as I don't have any where to work on it, and the engine wouldn't start I was completely stuck, it was off the road from last Sunday---No transport was hellish I told S.W.M.B.O.I was going to get rid of it and buy a mini!!!!!The Doctor said the swelling on my eye will go down in a couple of days so it looks like the mini is out of the question.
  8. The starter motor on my 400 packed up last Thursday, a new one has been ordered and will be fitted a.s.a.p. as it can't be driven, a low loader is on its way to it take down to lexus I have had to disconnect the L.P.G.pipe work so as they can work on it. The cost is going to be £1100+ that is on top of the £2300+ I paid out in April for a new 3/4 exhaust system. I sometimes wonder is it worth keeping?? :yack:
  9. Go onto Auto trader ,Lexus ls page ,then go onto page 2,scroll down and there is a 2000 x plate, from CC cars for £ 2495 it looks like a nice car.
  10. Ok paul I'll see you Thursday, last week there was a lovely Ls 600h for sale, maybe you'll fancy that.
  11. Paul; what time are you going for m.o.t. if you don't mind I could come down ,and we could have a chat as I only live about a mile or so from them, what do you think??
  12. Thanks chaps, all the dash lights were on, just not cranking, I'll nip down to Lexus and see about a new battery, yes it is over 3years old, I bought the car in April 2008 so I don't know how long it had been on the car previously. cheers boys
  13. We came home Saturday, a bit late from 2weeks in France ,everything fine until Sunday morning. I went out and tried to start the car--nothing tried again still nothing no power at all, on the 3rd attempt she fired up I left it running for a couple of minutes turned it off then tried again same problem nothing until 2nd attempt I checked the pos and neg terminals-OK used a volt meter which showed 12:3 volts,-OK. I then used a hydrometer and on 5 of the cells got reading of between 12.30 and 12.40 but on the 6th cell it was below 11.30 .I know that is far too low, but why did it take 3 and the 2 attempts to start I don't know how old the battery is but only one cell below 12.00 shouldn't cause the problem. any ideas please or is a new battery the answer and which are the best ones ??
  14. there are a couple on auto trader one of them A 2000 xreg have a look you might like it.

  18. Hello chaps:I found a small patch of rust near the boot catch on my 400,so I decided to take away the rubber to see what size it was!! to my surprise it was all along the lip of the boot, next step I used a small power sander and removed all the rust, then I gave the area a coating of rust remover, after it had dried a coat of Finnegan's paint to seal it. now I am going to refit the rubber, but I need to know what type of glue/sealant is the best for the job any info on the subject please.
