  1. HI, As posted before i took my car in to have a rattle / creek done last week and also to have an oil leak done too. surprise surprise the rattle is back! and if anything seams worse (that maybe just cos its greating on me a bit more) but also the car absolutly stinks! it came back pretty dirty with some kind of solvent spray all over it. over the next day or so it started to smell of like a WD40 / solvent type smell this has gradually got worse and worse and its not at the point that its hard to drive the car without the windows open, again that might be because the smell is kind of in the back of my throat. but what could it be someone suggested a diesel or another oil leak, but it doesnt really smell like that. one of those mind tricks too but i am sure the MPG has gone down too! looked in the engine compartment and without starting to take out all the plastic covers etc there is some kind of fluid sitting in a little puddle under the pullys and the front of the engine. surely if it was a solvent it would have gone by now (a week and about 150 miles) Its going back tomorrow but out of interest what could it be? any ideas?
  2. I used Nankang (NS 2's) on my old car not on a lexus and to be honest they were fine for me, i did find that they wore quite quickly but then again might have been the way i was driving it??? if your after cheep and cheerful i thought they were not bad at all. Not sure about the web site but i have used www.mytyres.co.uk a couple of times and so have a few of my freinds and they have been pretty good on all counts really
  3. i reckon that when your car goes in for warranty work the dealer also takes the instruction from lexus to do other items tsib's that you may not be aware of,they do not alert you to any of the extra item's,by keeping quiet leaves you the customer without any unnecessary concern's.as to returning your car with an avg mpg of 22,this would be due to battery disconnection or someting that zero's your mpg reading, this is usual don't worry.if you ask if there has been additional work done they will tell you. Thanks for that i guess your right with the MPG hadnt thought of that to be honest, still doesnt excuse the new rattle though
  4. Well i am from maidstone so wasnt sure if i should go to t-wells canturbury or sidcup in the end went for T-wells as it was a little closer, not too sure it was a good move? dont even know if the oil leak has been fixed as i was told nothing about what had been done to the car at all just a "here you go its all yours" type thing.
  5. Well this was my first dabble with waruntee work done by Lexus, when i took the car in a month or so ago for a service it came back nice and clean bottle of wine on the seat (still in the bottle thank god). This time its had a rattle / ,creeking noise done on the Near side A piller and dash join, and an oil leek. took 3 days in total so one more day then they said but that was ok cos i had a nice 09 RX hybreed thingy very nice car ..... which had no rattles at all!! my car came back a fair bit dirtier than it went, having done an extra 25miles (bit long for a test drive in my humble opinion) and with a 22mpg on the average so a nice lead foot driving it. The only freebies i got where a nice invisable air freshener think its called WD40 it stinks! and the ultimate in freebie..... a nice new rattle!!! coming from the nearside rear possibly parcel shelf??? never had that when it went in! so monday morning i think i'll be on the phone again! am not after freebies but least of all this type. Cant say i am overly impressed yes its all done for free thats good but if they screwed it together right in the first place they wouldnt have to, had a skoda octavia vrs for about 3 years ran it into the ground and drove it like a hooligan most of the time and not a sound no loose bits, nothing, and people take the P out of them! cant say that i notice a difference in the dealers either, much of a muchness but i think they come first and second or close in most of the dealer surveys anyway
  6. Anyone got any pics of "bubbled" ones, have had a good look at mine and cant find anything but although it sounds daft want to know i am looking in the right nooks and crannys on the wheels, is it blatantly obvious or is it one of those things you really need to look for? i have found that the corrosion starts at the back of the spokes and creeps around to the front. Thanks thats kind of what i was wondering if it was on the back sides of the spokes so to speak and then coming round to the front more visable sides, will have to get on the case of having a look in the morning

  8. first thing is to ask the dealer, what the f..k is going on,then find the email address for the chief engineer in japan and ask him, what the f..k is going on.other than that i'm stumped. Not sure how many other people maybe in the same situation as me, but just looked at mine and there is a slight mark on the boot lid itself and not much on the bumper part.... now from what it seams there are a lot of you have had it "fixed" but not already do you think its better to get on the case ... more fuel to the fire and all that or hang back a bit then hit em in the last month of waruntee (november this year) ??
  9. FYI the left pedal in your car is clutch and by pressing it you would prevent this ;-) tut! where is your sense of adventure! using the clutch, where is the fun in that!
  10. Well your braver than me!! (either that or yours is a company car and mine isnt! :D ) i could just see myself pressing it and ending up in a cloud of rear tyre smoke locked up or with the back axle halfway down the road!
  11. Point taken & driving keeping the revs down will increase the mpg on any car but I think many people's gripe (well mine anyway!) is that they have seen a big drop in mpg which we perceive is due to some of the work done under recall either the replacement 5th injector or the software updates. I had been getting an indicated 42mpg constantly under my "normal" driving, this dropped to 35mpg at best. I tried keeping the revs to around 1800-2000 since earlier this week. On my run home I reset the computer once I was out of town & on the motorway, kept to speed limits & the rev range & got just over 39mpg, tbh driving that way & having bypassed the stop/start town stuff I would have expected mid 40's at least. Continued this style of driving & now getting just over 38, which is an improvement but not back to 42 yet. Are forums not for bitching anyway?? :winky: Not had my car long but had the 5th injector and the remap done about two weeks ago and it doesnt seam to have changed my average at all. Granted its been a bit warmer in gereal since i had it done so maybe thats why but it was giving me about 41mpg before and pretty much the same since with a mixture of town and A road driving mainly
  12. Thats as i thought with the stop button hence not being brave enough to try it!! was just thinking along the lines of even though its tucked out of the way its a bit easier to hit a button rather than turn a key. Will have a try at finding somewhere that does CD's might well email one of the ebay shops and see if they can do anything if i have any luck i'll keep you posted in-case someone else wants one.
  13. I know someone asked a similar question before but i think they were after the IS-F but does anyone know where you can get hold of a Haynes manual or a CD with the repair manual on it (for IS 220D). Have done a bit of searching online and of course ebay but cant find anything?? anyone know of anywhere? Also just as a by the way maybe i have too much time on my hands maybe my mind just likes to wonder, but driving along the other day and saw the start stop button while i was driving along at about 50............. now i dont want to try it call me a wimp but!!! What happens if you press it as your going along? does it cut the engine and all hell breaks loose or is there some kind of interlock to stop that happening? anyone been brave enough to test it.... not me!
  14. Just spoken to lexus as my car is in on monday for a service, they said as i think has been said before that the steering rack and break calipers have a visual inspetion and then if they need changing they will if not they wont!! must be feeling very brave if they say no it doesnt need it and someone goes and wraps it round a tree a day or two later! some smart lawer will make a fortune out of that one! so am hoping they will change it. asked about the air con re-call and kind of skirted around it a little will find out more on monday as it does pong a bit sometimes.
  15. Well i dont want one for now thanks just trying a little straw pole really to see if its worth considering in the future. pretty happy with the car as it stands but i am sure after a little while a bit more power etc might be on the cards, but also having had friends who have started on the road to upgrades and uprating the car it seams to be a slippery slope once you start more and mods seam to "happen" the way i see it the longer i hold it off the less the wallet is going to suffer How true, very slippery slope indeed. I can get the boxes fairly quickly so if you want one (or anyone else) just shout!! ok thanks as soon as i can batter the moths out of the wallet and talk myself into it i will do

  17. Just wondering if anyone has used or is using either a Dragon or spider tuning box on their 220d? or something similar have seen a few reports and on the web sites for both companys they do look pretty good with the power increase etc just wondering if anyone knows much about them? 1 do they improve / reduce fuel consumption much 2 is the power increase noticable and worth the money 3 are they as they say easily removed so that you can take them off when going in for work such as waruntee work? Mines still under waruntee so dont think i would play around til the end of that but am pretty tempted i have to say
  18. HI i have only had my 220d for about a month now and have been on here for about the same amount of time from what i can see your opening a can of worms asking which is better the 220d or the 250. For my 2p's worth i previously had a skoda octavia Vrs (yes yes get all the skoda jokes out the way ) which whatever you think about skoda's is plenty quick enough. For me personally it comes down to the fact that i like the way the 220d drives i guess its one of those horses for courses things and the only thing you can do is test drive both and see what you think. yes it might be a little slower on the stop watch than my old skoda (think its about 2 seconds slower to 60) but i dont miss it and it "feels" fast enough, not scarey fast just entertaining. the only issue i had with the gear box was from first to second its taken me a week or so but now have modded the way a change gear a little and all is well. On the issue of rattles and stuff i brought mine second hand through a non lexus dealer it goes in for its 20k service next week at lexus T-wells and so far they seam happy to be fixing the rattly dashboard that i have.... but time will tell on that one i guess, its also having the 5th injector and the ECU remap done as well as it missed out on those before (which seams a little odd as its previous owner is registered as Lexus Finance?) anyway i hope that kind of helps? think the only thing you can do is try them both on for size!
  19. not sure if you can or not have heard about people doing it (possibly on other cars maybe older stuff) but was wondering if anyone had done it / if its possible and what if any are the benifits (cost i am assuming but is that offset with having to buy more fuel filters etc etc??) as i said before not really convinced it would be something i would try myself if they thought it was ok to do wouldnt they sell them to run on veggie oil / chip fat anyway? all seams a bit back to the future to me :hocus-pokus:
  20. Hello one for all or maybe some of the oil burners on here, just brought a 220d and not sure i would myself but was wondering if anyone runs on veggie oil? or a mix either with one of the kits you can get or by just bunging it in and what results do you get? i.e difference in efficiency how much you think your saving etc etc?
  21. Thanks for the replys so far. The snow handling capabilites on it are not as good as the car i have got rid of now who would have said coming from a skoda VRS to a lexus that the skoda was better in anyway! :D think thats about the only way though. Brought it though a dealer but not a lexus one, i will check the dealer do dar on here my local one i think is Tunbridge wells so looks like i'll be heading off that way
  22. Hello, I am new to all this so be gentle with me and no taking the P but.. :D picked up a IS220D on saturday its lovely i really like it ...... it then snowed and i hit a concrete post on monday!..... :tsktsk: :shutit: so am well impressed so far! could be worse its just the front bumper skin as far as i can tell with no underlying damage as very slow speed and is all booked in to be sorted. Does anyone know of a good dealer in the kent area its due a 20,000 mile service and having spoken to lexus its in need of a re-call for an ECU remap???? and a 5th injector?? what should i be paying for a 20,000 mile service and can anyone recomend anywhere in the maidstone area? cheers
