  1. I've had a 2014 GS300h for a couple of months and been trying to figure out how to lower the stereo volume while the nav voice is speaking. I didn't ask the question here because I felt so stupid. Now, I find out that it's the sat nav that's stupid! Why on earth does it not have this feature, and why do they not do something about it? There are so many little things about the "infotainment" that irritate the hell out of me and could easily be fixed with a software update.
  2. Have to admit, I was a little confused when I joined a couple of months ago. I recently bought a GS300h and wasn't too sure where to post!
  3. I have, quite literally, put a sock in it. Specifically, a pair of my daughter's black school socks. I forced them in with a flexible ruler. You cannot see they are there from any angle. The creaking has at least 90% gone!
  4. Well I have to report that this morning, before setting off, I just stuffed a microfibre cloth that I keep in the glovebox into the gap between the dash and windscreen. Result? The rattle has almost completely gone! Only on the most severe surfaces (our driveway at work is literally a cobbled road) does a small creaking sound emerge. I guess I just need to find a neater. more permanent solution. It's actually very difficult to see into the gap there from either inside or outside the car. I honestly think a pair of old socks, pushed in using a ruler, may do the trick!
  5. Yes it has been noticeably worse these last few days. In fact, it's seriously annoying - I have to turn the stereo right up to drown it out. I'll give your idea a try this weekend but I don't hold out too much hope :(
  6. My recently acquired 2014 GS300h has an irritating rattle / creaking noise coming from somewhere on the passenger side of the dash. Possibly where it meets the windscreen. As is always the case, it's hard to pinpoint exactly. It's most obvious when I turn corners or, obviously, on rough surfaces. I have noticed there are a lot of panels and joints on the GS300h dash (compared to, for example, my old E class which was seemingly hewn from a solid block). I have tried spraying silicon lubricant into a few places, but that's had no effect. Have any other owners suffered this and more importantly, know how to fix it?
  7. Sorry, it's a 2014 GS300h. Not sure why the owner can't be trusted with some of these settings. Seems very odd!
  8. In the manual, it says you can access Vehicle Customisation settings to change all manner of things. One thing I particularly want to change is the number of flashes from the indicator. But I cannot find them. When I go into the settings, the only thing I can change is whether the seat partially moves or not when I exit the car. How do I find the other settings?
  9. I think I have made my mind up. It's not a very compelling "offer"!
  10. OK so I finally got a response from Lexus Stockport (they didn't respond to my online enquiry). They quoted me £995 for a 2 intermediates and a full. Price £995. But that's exactly what I'd pay anyway, without getting into any kind of plan with them. So what's the advantage here? (And by the way, is this not seriously expensive? I'll be needing this every 12 months or so. Yikes. I think I need to find an independent!)
  11. Thanks, i had seen that page but as far as I can tell it doesn;t provide any of the information i was after.
  12. I picked up a 2 year old GS300h from Lexus Sheffield a couple of weeks ago. It has 27k on the clock, and I do about 20k a year. I intend to keep the car for at least 4 years. From what I understand, you can negotiate a "service plan" which spreads the cost over whatever timeframe you choose. I cannot for the life of me find any information on this on the (rubbish) Lexus website. Can anyone point me to some info? And generally speaking, does anyone have anything to say (good or bad) about this scheme?
  13. You know, you are right, they do poke forward. I have noticed that whilst messing with the settings this last week. You only have to look at the seat to see that. I really don't know why it sticks forward quite so much.
  14. OK so here's my update... On Monday morning, I thought what the heck, I should try a COMPLETELY different position (ooerr, missus). So I put the seat high up, and the back almost bolt upright. And you know what, after 10 minutes, it didn't feel too bad. I lowered the seat a bit, and reclined just a little, but after another 3 journeys each of 40 miles it doesn't feel too bad at all. Still not quite as "natural" a fit as my Merc - but then I had covered 70k in 4 years, I had moulded to its shape! And the Lexus is an undeniably classier environment (save for the failings of the "infotainment" which is rather lacking on the "info" side of things...!)
  15. You gotta be kidding! I haven't had a radio for more than 10 years, be it FM or DAB, that doesn't give some kind of basic info at least. As you say, more than a foot of screen and they can't accommodate that? Surely they could update it with some new software? Couldn't we start a petition?!
  16. So I have had my GS300h for 10 days or so and still cannot find how to display the "Now playing" etc. info on the FM or DAB radio. Surely it can be displayed?
  17. Thanks, but no thanks. I had one on my Rover 75 (yes, I had one, and it was a lovely car!). It was perfect for that, but the GS300 is a very "angular" car and I don't think the curves would complement it very well.
  18. So, the new plates arrived yesterday from Demon Plates. They are a little more expensive than most sellers, but they get good reviews. The plates are nicely made. No air bubbles, no rough edges. The legal jargon is in very small print. There's not much to say about the front one - it's nice and clean in appearance and I stuck it on with plenty of double sided tape. Looks neat. However, as for the back one...it's too big in my opinion. I stuck it on, and stepping back down the road to have a look, it just looks too big. It's not helped by the fact that the plate is more "orange" than the one I took off, which is more of a pale yellow. I immediately pulled it off - that was a job (those No More Nails double sided pads are good!) and I put the fussy dealer one back on for now. It's a shame there isn't a plate that is a tad larger than the standard, but just a bit smaller than the one I got.
  19. Thanks for the replies. I appreciate I am in a very small minority. But comfort is a subjective thing, it's not a fact! Anyone who has tried shopping for a bed or sofa with their wife will know what I mean! I actually think I may have got things completely the wrong way round. Rayaan, you suggest raising the front of the seat. I had thought that there wasn't enough support just behind my knees too. But apparently, it's pressure in that area that causes pain, if this document here is to be believed: http://drivingergonomics.lboro.ac.uk/downloads/initial driving position and posture guide.pdf the only way I can get thigh support along the length of the cushion and comfortably control the pedals is to have the seat very low down. It feels a bit odd, and I would rather be higher up in a more commanding position. I also probably look a bit of a ***** (likes those kids who slouch in their Saxos!) but I tried it on my commute this morning and it was a bit better. I am also going to try to make the leather a little more "slippy". In my Merc, I could just slide myself a cm or two just to keep the blood flowing. The leather in the Lexus (lovely though it is!) seems to be a bit more "sticky". So that's a job for the weekend!
  20. I picked up my 2014 GS300h last week. I have quite a commute each day – an hour to work and 60-70 minutes home. Unfortunately, I have to report that I cannot get comfortable in the seat. I can’t wait to get out when I get to my destination. I’m constantly fiddling with the settings to try to get comfortable. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it is, but I do feel that despite being short (I’m only five seven), the seat cushion doesn’t extend far enough. Certainly not as far as my old E Class which felt more like an armchair. It therefore feels like all the pressure is on just a short portion of the back of my legs. In an ideal world, I’d have the seats from the Premier model which I think have many more adjustments including an extendable cushion. (What chance I could find one of them?!) I’m really at a loss as to what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help? Are there any aftermarket accessories that don’t look to crappy that might help?
  21. Well I've ordered the slightly larger rear plate. There's no "recess" as such on the GS300h but the panel on which it fixes is rather large. I'll report back when I get it. Regarding whether to use tape or bolts. The latter gives peace of mind (and I have had a taped plate pop off before in the summer heat) but a deciding factor is if the bolt partially obscures some lettering. Unfortunately in my case, it does. So I'll try tape (lots of it!)
  22. (Sorry for the barrage of questions today!) My 2014 GS300h has rather busy number plates: the blue GB strip (I never drive to the continent), the ugly black Lexus dealership strip along the bottom, and bolts that are impinging on the letters. So, I'm going to replace them with a nice clean look - no GB, no bolts, no unnecessary lettering save for the legal stuff. But I was thinking - the rear panel on which the plate goes is rather deep, and a regular plate (especially without the dealership strip) may look a little lost. I see that the standard plate is 112mm tall whereas a taller one at 152mm is also widely available. I noticed when walking the dog tonight that cars like Range Rovers and Jags have these, and they look nicely proportioned. Because I don't honestly think I have ever seen another GS300h on the road (really!), I'm not sure what owners usually have there. I am however minded to go for the slightly larger plate. Does anyone have any thoughts?
  23. Yes, the iPod works very well. It displays art work (although it takes a few seconds to pop up, but that maybe because I'm using an old 160gb iPod with the spinning hard disk). It looks like you can only see the station name with DAB. Which is a bit crappy, given you've been able to see "now playing" info on FM radio for donkeys now.
