If you had a head gasket problem you would see brown/white mayonaise type stuff on your oil filler cap and maybe on your rad cap. hi mate, yeah ino loads of people are asking me about mayo, but no problems with that. thank god! i probably just worry too much, but i would rather prevent it rather than letting it get worse. however i did look at my header tank today and it had gone back up very slightly, so i was like... what the hell?? maybe it just fluctuates? but surely it should stay at the full mark and not half empty?
  3. There are loads on ebay but im not sure which one to get? can it do any harm to the engine?
  4. lol id love to rob but unfortunatly its private. However to be honest the car drives like a dream, but just the coolant issue. I think the best thing to do is get a compression test on each individual cylinder and get another gas test done. and then that must tell me weather the gasket is going? If it is the gasket, i will probably get it stripped down and go to town with her and change a few things etc.. :winky: i can see a charger coming along by christmas lol

Hi, Checked it again today and still loss of coolant from the header tank! i havnt driven her or turned her over for a week now since i discovered my shredded cambelt. however i will be getting that done this thursday but hopefully i will find out where that blasted coolant is going when the mechanic gets the rad & belt stripped down. still no visual signs of leakidge from the rad or water pump, so my other thought was that maybe there is a hairline crack in the header tank, as there is no loss of rad coolant?. ... i havnt managed to check the pipe feeding to the head from the water pump but i will hopefully get round to that tonight, looking through the heat shield though that pipe looks rather new and rust free, so i wouldnt of thought it was seeping from there, although i could be wrong. my mechanic told me that maybe there is a slight leak but it may only become big enough for the coolant to pass out when the engine is at runnin tempreture and when the pipe heats up and expands. maybe hes right?

  9. lenny, i ordered mine yesterday mate off japarts.co.uk or .com around 2.00pm and it was here at 9.00am the next morning! you havnt got to worry about delivery time with japarts mate. there based in london, so if your local then i suppose you could collect.

Hi mate, yeah i have the same problem, my expansion tank level seems to fluctuate frequently but my radiator is always full.. i keep worrying myself thinking theres a problem as i always have to top up the expansion tank. but i never have to top up my rad, is this a good thing? or should the expansion always staff at the full mark?
  12. im getting mine done on thursday morning. hes also fitting me a new w/pump and radiator as well as the cambelt, idler & tensioner + coolant. £100 fitted - plus warrenty - (im supplying parts, all genuine) £400 in total including labour and parts. i dont think thats a bad price tbf.
  13. Hi ormi, i no a guy who does recovery so i think i will slip him a tenner just to drop it down the road for me. the garage is about 4 miles away so its not that far. i think thats probably the safest way to do lol :o
  14. i think they do a cheaper version for like £80 quid but i prefer genuine parts atleast then if things go wrong they are covered by a reputable source.
  15. Hi mate, yeah mine is the same, i posted it up a few days ago. lucky i checked mine aswell!. could of been a hell of a costly job if it had gone! you can get the complete kit genuine from ebay £129.99 including postage. lexus quoted me £174.98
  16. hi steve, indeed i had a gas test but still the coolant leakes. not in the waterpump and not from the rad, and also not from the heater matrix. so i would of thought it would be the head gasket. i wasnt implying that i wanted to change it i was just enquiring. thats the reason i joined the forum for advice. cheers.
  17. My uncle is a motorbike mechanic who rebuilds bikes and is a real motor head. He also used to be an MOT tester and part time (trained) mechanic (years ago). however he is now just a bike freak & motorbike rebuilder. and we were talking about the head gasket on my lexx. He said i can do it mate not a problem!. it will be a days work but he wont charge me. He talked me throught the stages about plaining the head up etc.. and he seems to know what hes on about. he just said the hardest part to it is timing it up but he said he would sort it. as he does them on bikes all the time. So it got me thinking. As he is mechanically minded and knows about engines should i let him have a go for the sake of a £90 quid gasket set or do i pay £1k for an independant garage to do it?? i no where my mind is pointing at the moment lol. £100 or £1000k ?? what do you think guys?

And steve, i have booked it in with a lexus mechanic mate. i dont do anything like cambelts etc.. only oil changes and coolant, little things like that. the belt, pump, and rad are getting done next thursday, but still loss off coolant. so hopefully when he gets everything stripped down to do the belt he will find the leak. if not then theres something wrong internally obviously, which is sods law but thats cars i guess.
  19. could you see where it was leaking mate? was there any stains in the engine pan? or did it have to be well inspected to find the leak?
  20. RIGHT! MY CAR IS REALLY STARTING TO ANNOY ME NOW! :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: Just checked my coolant level again this morning and my header tank has dropped its level yet again by about a quater of an inch.!? the car has been gas tested as clear so no sign off head gasket?. however pressure test is loosing pressure slightly? Every other morning its dropped slightly, i cant see any leaks what so ever but my rad is flaky slightly right near the bottom. (top and middle of rad is fine,looks brand new) which is confusing me? just seems to be rotting at the bottom. so where the hell can it be going?????? Ive just odered a new water pump, and radiator in some hope that it may resolve the issue? can someone please help? where else could it be going? what other possibilities. because if i cant get to the problem she will have to go!

Just odered my new belt. along with a few other essentials Belt, Idler, & Tensioner Radiator, Water Pump, 5L toyota long life coolant. total cost £300 and thoughts at what price it will be to fit it all? bearing in mind its all easily done when changing the cambelt as your right next to everything ie. water pump, rad etc.. ??
