  1. Hi there, I am wondering, what is the use of the Diagnostics socket on the right side under the hood? As per the workshop manual, I think it is only available for German models of IS and may not be available for UK model. It doesn't have the common OBD layout as the plug, so I am wondering, what is the use of it? Regards, Jonas
  2. I didn't want to create a seperate thread, but I have some strange noise also related to steering, but only when reversing - probably happens when the steering wheel position is coming close to full lock? it is a 2000 year IS200 A/T. has anybody experienced anything similar?
  3. Mine has the following markings: 129Y27 13568-70100 I have seen other for sale having different part numbers, like: TOYOTA 1356870080 TOYOTA 1356870100 TOYOTA 1356879085 TOYOTA 1356879235 is it somehow possible to relate the model number to its production date?
  4. A bit off-topic question: I have recently bought my IS200 and I am very happy with it, however, I have no track of its previous service history. After seeing some pictures of possible wear and tear of the timing belt I checked mine and after quick inspection I was not able to find any signs of wear on it. The question is - was the part number for the timing belt always the same or did they sometimes release the updated versions - would it be possible to tell by the markings on it, when approximately it could have been made. My car has ~150k kms on its clock and I would like to know, whether it had its timing belt done before or not (probably it had, but I would like to be on the safe side in this case). Thanks for any possible information that could help :) I have written off the markings of my timing belt if they are of any help.
  5. I have already ordered such device and I am willing to try :) I have no reason to think, why it may not work. I will let you know, whether it works or not. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...%3D10%26ps%3D63 http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.28528
  6. bump or is this the case, citing the workshop manual: If the malfunction does not repaired in 3 consecutive trips, the (CHK ENG) goes off automatically but the DTCs remain recorded in the engine ECU memory. If I understant ir right, the problem persists, but I the system no longer alerts me?
  7. Update: today my ECU problem went away from the dashboard on its own without ECU resetting or deleting it with code reader. does the error have not to appear in 3 drives in a row to be resetted by the ECU automatically? I have noticed a noticable increase in performance - it seems the car had its revs limited before.
  8. how do you install this grom kit? what do you need for installation? is it only the cable? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GROM-AXXESS-METRA-PE...=item439ac84497 if so, how to connect it to the stock radio? :) Edit: Thanks. Have managed to find the guide here on the forum myself :)
  9. Hi there, I am thinking of buying a HID conversion kit, but first of all, wanted to check with you guys, if it is reasonable to put the HIDs in factory locations in the OEM headlights? Aren't they painful to the other drivers because of the glare produced? How does it compare with other cars with aftermarket HIDs installed? Don't want to cause problems to other colleague drivers. Also considering an option of putting the HIDs in the place of fog lights, as such modification as of today seems to be street legal here in Lithuania - anybody has done such conversion? Thanks for your thoughts :)
  10. Well, my bad is that I didn't write down the fault code. I am sure it was related to bank 1 - wondering if there are seperate fault codes available for front and back sensors? Peco84, thanks for the reply. What do you think, could the impendence checking while cold on both of these sensors reavel, which one is faulty?
  11. Hi there, Recently I have been diagnosed the lambda sensor failure on the bank 1. Has anybody else changed the lambda sensor before? If so, do you know how much a failed lambda sensor could affect the fuel consumptions? Right now I am getting ~28mpg with A/T on motorway. Is it reasonable? The other question - if it says lamba sensor (bank 1) failure - should it be the lambda sensor before the catalytic converter or could it also be the one after the converter? Would the ECU diagnose the problem of the latter lambda sensor? Thanks for you ideas :) I am getting to know my IS200.
  12. P.S. how much could the failed oxygen sensor affect the fuel consumptions, as I know on different cars they affect it at different rate :) Thanks!
  13. Thanks, Phill. As per your instructions, I was able to find the guides for removing the dash tray and the stereo itself. I will probably try to remove it this weekend - hopefully it will be possible to fix my cd player - would love to save on buying a new one :) Ok - I had the diagnostics done and it seems that my Bank 1 lambda sensor failed - at least that's the result of diagnostics - will it be the one on the manifold or could it also be the one under the car on the cat? Is it common for oxygen sensors to fail in UK for IS'es? They say that we have bad fuel here in Lithuania and it is said that it is the main reason why they fail here.
  14. After i used to intake cleaner to get rid of residue on the throttle body i started the car only to find an engine check light had illuminated. I tried a few little things then as a last resort disconnected the battery, left it a couple of mins, reconnected and voila! fixed itself... Give it a try, it could save you the cost of the diagnostics report. The original stereo's come up for sale all the time http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/lexus-is-200-stereo_...=item2556dc72a9 I have one spare but unfortunately couldnt part with it incase i sell the car, i may have to put it back :D Thank you - probably will follow you guide in case to see, if that helps :) as for the stereo unit - yes, I can find it here locally for ~50 quid, whoever, I am looking for some instructions, how to remove it from the panel - I have a fellow electrician, who might fix the current one :) Thanks!
  15. Hi there, So - this is my second post here on this forum :) After some thoughts, I have bought the Lexus IS 200 and now the first problems comes, which needs to be solved. First of all - the CD player does not work (car built in 2000, so, as I realise, it is common for the older stereos to fail). I wonder, if there is a list of "How to" guides available here on the forum? If not, where I could find some information regarding this matter? The second problem is that the Engine malfunction light has lit up when driving without any other noticable symptoms. The light remains lit after restarting the engine too. Could it be something serious or should I suspect like lambda sensor failure? Anyway, booked the car for the diagnostics in a few days. Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Regards, Jonas
  16. Hi there, This is my first post on this forum, but I believe I will come here more and more often, as I am planning on buying one particular Lexus IS200 A/T. Also, sorry for my English and I hope that you will be able to understand my problem :) After checking the car (I have tested a few of them in total), the brake pedal seems to be insensitive at the top, however, the braking itself, if pushed hard to the bottom, seems to be efficient - the ABS works and wheels do not get locked. What could be wrong - any possible reasons? I assume I should check next time, if it is a bigger pedal free play or if it is braking system related - could it be caused by not well bleeded braking system or leaks? P.S. are there any other major things I should check especially for this model apart of general engine, transmission, suspension inspection? :) Thanks, Jonas
