  1. Fire blankets (as found in commercial kitchens)are perfect for catching sparks! Contact a local fire protection company and ask if they have any second hand ones you could have or buy.
  2. Thanks for the help Kam! And yes I am replacing the cam belt as well as the waterpump. Is it worth having any other service work done as the car has no record of a 40 or 50k mile service? Transmission oil perhaps?
  3. I need to supply all parts for the 60000 mile service, including fluids. Can someone list all the parts I need? I'm also going to get the water pump changed too so will I need anything other than the pump itself?
  4. I know your post said you just want to get the new alloys on the car, but it really is worth saving up for good tires. The only thing stopping your pride and joy sliding through someone's wall is 4 small patches of rubber. Make the most of the cars handling rather than settle for inferior tires just so you can get your new wheels on display.
  5. My number plate decided to part from my car the first time i put it through a car wash. So a quick trip to Homebase and i found Sellotape Outdoor Sticky Fixers. They are small double sided sticky pads. Perfect for number plates.
  6. This picture may be a little better. Once fitted you wont see the arm unless you get close. Nobody who has looked at mine have mentioned it (unless they have very good eyesight and are being polite!)
  7. Heres the Angel Eyes i fitted to my 2001 IS200, its difficult to see the plastic arm that does not fit properly but its top of the smaller ring.
  8. I do have some pictures of the installation as I was going to write a short guide to fitting them, so will try post a couple of pictures up tonight if I can. If you do your fitting before then make sure to dry out the TWO sponges in each headlight. I missed one in the first headlight I did and have moisture on the lens again.
  9. Hi Bill. I have only just fitted my ones I got from them. I think fitment may be the problem here for some people. The smaller ring has a bent plastic arm that looks like its meant to follow the contours of your reflectors but it does not. They can still be fitted and once in place its difficult to notice the plastic arm. I could have cut it off but did not want to accidentaly flex the ring and damage it. They dont come with a proper connector block for the wiring either, but the spade terminals will click into the existing connector so just be sure to make it waterproof. But overall I have been pleased with them. They certainly do look very good. The original BMW hoop lights look very dull in comparison to angel eyes. I should mention I'm not very handy with car repairs but these lights were reasonably easy to fit, just take your time and consider how things will look before sticking the lights to the reflectors.
  10. Dont forget to do a HPI check on any car you are considering buying. If your buying from a dealer and he says the check has been done make sure you have it in writing, or the safer option is to do it yourself regardless.
  11. Hi Mike, what's the name of the garage? I'm quite close to you (chelmsford) so might get a quote done there too.
  12. Ah yes! So they do. That explains it, that could be an expensive mistake! :D
  13. That sounds more like it to me, 215 degrees for 15 mins is very bloody hot indeed! Especially when in the video he has fitted the halo lights and the cables hang out the back and he says to put it back in the oven to reseal it like that!! I think i will try this install using your temperature and times. As my headlights already let moisture in i dont expect the sealing glue to be in a great shape so should come apart easier.
  14. Im soon to be booking mine in HERE for the 60k service with belt and water pump as they have had some good reviews on this forum in some old threads i found. I sent a message to them asking for a quote so hope to have a reply soon. They are in SE26, London.
  15. Did you get any problems with moisture after the installation? I need to open the headlight units to cure the moisture problem i already have so may as well install these lights at the same time as they do look very nice.
  16. I just watched This Video whilst looking for info on Angel Eyes. Has anyone here really baked a headlight at 215 degrees for 15 mins? Wont the headlight warp from that heat? Did you do it differently?
  17. Thanks Stav, thats reassuring. The car is new to me so i am still getting used to the sounds it makes
  18. Ok, back from a high speed run and the sound has returned. The ticking is definently the exhaust as suspected so no problems there. But the hissing sound seems to be loudest by the rear passenger side wheel. Is this likely to be a fuel pump problem? The hissing is not loud and there are no other sounds from it.
  19. Thanks for the heads up on that! I forget the IS has so many airbags. And thanks for the replys here. Hopefully its just wiring but if not then the seats coming out when the weathers warmer next year (working outside in the rain on a car aint no fun).
  20. Thanks for the replys. It's not a big problem but would be nice to get it working properly. Think I might get back under the seat again and try cleaning the connectors. Will post up the results when its done.
  21. Will do! If the rain holds off I will give it a run up and down the dual carriageway tonight and see if the noises return.
  22. The radiator is in good condition. I assumed the ticking was normal after searching old threads here. I had first thought the whistling was the exhaust, but when I started the car the next morning the sound had stopped. I will check fluid levels again tonight. The car will get another good run on Friday so will investigate a little deeper then.
  23. My 2001 IS200 was making a ticking and whistling sound after its first long run. The ticking sounds like a car cooling down and the whistle was like an air leak. It's the only time I have heard it. I heard the noises whilst stopped with the engine running, revving the car made no change to the sound. The car is new to me and I know its well overdue a service, checked all belts except cam belt so far (which I will do this weekend). The car has 56000 miles on it. Any ideas on what it could be?
