Interesting to read that Chris Evans reviewed the new Infiniti Q30 2.2 diesel SUV for the Event magazine (Sunday Mail). He had mixed feelings about it, but did say he only achieved 26.4 mpg against the claimed 57.6! Nothing surprising there I suppose, other than to confirm the average mpg the 300h achieves, although also much lower than the claimed, is still a fair bit better than a 2.2 diesel. :)

Your journeys sound to be much like mine, of very short duration with the car hardly warming up. It is the worse case scenario for any car, even hybrids especially in cold weather. In fact it would be even worse for a diesel which takes even longer to warm up. My MPG in my CT over a 4.5 year period was 44.3. In winter I was often in the high 30's or low 40's, but come summer I could get to high 40's and even 50+. It varies so much. Currently in my new NX I am getting 32mpg, well below the average, but that will get to high 30's in warmer weather. I bet if you do a longer trip on 'A' and 'B' roads you would see a big improvement.

I get that too, it is annoying. I have bought some Rain-X to see if that helps, but have yet to try it. Your MPG is very good, I barely get above 35! but most of my journeys are of short duration right now. When I go further I am still well below 40.

Yes, the Audi Q's do look a bit dull. I did test drive a Q3, and quite liked the drive, but the looks did nothing to me, nothing at all. :)

I hate a dirty car. It's just me, I'm not obsessive, but I just cannot leave it long if it looks dirty. Currently, the weather is making the car dirty no sooner do I clean it. Since I bought my NX in September I have yet to use a car wash, either auto or the local Eastern European cleaners (who incidentally do great job). So when the sun comes out, I am out there with a bucket and various bits and pieces making my car gleaming again. Luckily, being Sonic Titanium, it does not show the dirt like my previous Obsidian Black CT did, but it sure looks nice after I have finished. I have it down to a fine art, even the quick washes I do right now which take about 45 minutes. Bought some Rain-X windscreen repellent today, I hear it is very good. I'll let you know what I think.

That's really good MPG, much better than I am currently achieving, but I am sure your journeys are longer than mine. When I do a longer journey I can get to high 30's but they are few and far between. When the light comes on the trip computer tells me I can do about 30 miles, but from what I understand you can do almost double that, but I have never tested it out. :)

I know what you mean about size, to a degree, yes, you do get used to it. But, parking in some very tight spaces can be hard these days as car parks try to get the miost cars in the space provided. I really do not need a big car these days, for me a small/medium SUV is perfect, but if I had a young family then that would be different. Also, for me, the extra 2" width, although not much, may have been just too much for my driveway, as it would mean getting in and out a tad tight.

Cars will always have a much better mpg that SUV's due to the extra weight mainly. It depends what you want, better mpg or higher seating position, more space, easy to get in and out of, all wheel drive, to name but a few. :)

Haha, a NX doing 48mpg, now that would be something. In winter you will do well to get 35mpg, but 40+mpg in the summer... I hope!

It is the only bad point. Although, that is only because of the claimed figure being so wide of the mark. The fact is for the size of car the MPG is not at all bad and compares with most diesels of that size and better than most petrol's.

NX for me, as it is just me and my wife most of the time, with the odd time we we need to carry extra passengers. The RX is very big, or at least too big for what I want. If you have a big family, or carry extra passengers regularly then fine, the extra room in a RX would be good, but otherwise stick to the NX.

In fact car manufacturers cannot publish true mpg figures because of the reason below. Or at least that is what they say. The prescribed EC test is a lab test carried out to simulate a mix of different types of driving and arrive at ‘combined’ CO2 emission and fuel consumption figures.Because vehicle taxation in Europe is now based on CO2 emissions, manufacturers naturally optimise their engines to achieve the lowest possible CO2 in the tests - this skews the true MPG.This gives a correspondingly low fuel consumption figure. Unfortunately the relevant EC Directives prescribe that this figure and only this figure can be publicized by manufacturers, even though it is unlikely to be achieved by the average driver in real life conditions.

Yes, this is a bad result for Lexus and the NX in particular. Interesting to see so many SUV's feature in the top ten, I think they have all tried to tell the same porkies about MPG as the sector is very competitive. It is about time the manufacturers told the truth like they have to in the US or they are in trouble. In my opinion it is the biggest con in the motor industry right now. I knew the fact before I bought my NX, I had done my research, but anyone who does not and believes they will get the claimed figure will be very disappointed. The sales person told me to expect 40-45 mpg, which was still way off the mark. I am even down on the 36.2 figure, averaging 32.2! although in the summer I expect that will get to close the average. The two other cars I considered are also well down on the claimed figures and the difference between all three were negligible. It's still a wonderful car to own, despite the MPG issue.

Yup, it is always a right mess, I have to clean it off regularly. It must be a design fault as I have never had that in a car before.

Sat Nav updates are a car industry cash cow, in fact Sat Nav's in general are. In the end I did go with Sat Nav, but I still don't think it is worth the money as my smart phone does it just as well, or better, at a fraction of the price. But I just decided to buy a car for nearly £40k without Sat Nav is daft, and I do like the bigger screen and no wires. I have to say it is not bad, but nothing outstanding and certainly not worth £1k.

One or two little niggles. I wish it was easy to turn off the sound. Sometimes my little navigator talks too much. And I don't mean my wife. Also, I wish she did not say 'slightly' left or right at the next roundabout, it is either left or right, not slightly.

I am still way down on that, but my journeys are all of very short duration right now so the engine doesn't even warm up. Since a fill up on Monday I have driven only 50 miles averaging at 26 mpg but all in quite cold conditions of sub zero or +2 temps. Most are 3-4 mile journeys. My overall average since owning the car is 32.6, not good I know, and well below the national average, but I really do always have a lower than normal mpg because of the type of journeys I do, which is why if they did a NX plug in, I would be very happy. Of course that is not going to happen. :(

MPG takes a big knock in cold weather. My NX is just about managing 25 - 28 on very short journeys currently, as the engine barely has time to warm up. My average normally is 34. That is below the national average mind, as many of my journeys are of short duration. Overall I reckon on 37-40 on long journeys, 33-35 on medium and 30-32 on short. In very cold weather the long and medium journeys are not affected too much, as the car has time to warm up, but the short ones are roughly 5 mpg lower.
