  1. Hi Colin thanks for your time and info feel much more confident i'll let you know how I get on Thanks again Eric
  2. Hi Colin thanks for that, read a bit more re 02 sensor still not sure exactly were it's located but i'm sure i'll find it when I start looking, what i've read confirms what you have already told me, but the more you read the more it seems that it could be more than just a lambda sensor but i'll have start with something, never changed one before is there anything that may crop up, and is there any problems with after market sensors any advice would be more than welcome. thank you for the info Eric
  3. Hi Steve Thanks for that good info, got a 500 mile trip on Thur so we will see what happens. I have the fault code as po155 which should be bank 2 sensor 1, I have looked at the parts locator dia: and it's not easy to figure out exactly were this thing is but it appears to be on the near side and the o2 sensor nearest the front of the vehicle. Thanks again for the reply Eric
  4. Hi. I had an alarm come up checked the code and it came up as O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction, It has reset with the code reader and did'nt come back on when engine was started I have'nt give it a run yet. I have no idea of what this is or what it does or if it's going to stop me part way through a trip. Any help or advice would be most welcome. Thanks in advance Eric
  5. Hi Steve sorry about the long wait but the back has not allowed me to be as active as I would like. Pulled a wheel off to-day took pictures but being the dummy I am I have'nt sussed how to copy them to this reply, there is about 10mm of disk on both sides of the INSIDE of the disk that is rusty and a further 10mm before the hub, I looked best I could at the pad and it looks to be covering the rusty part so I can't understand how it's not polishing the disk, Not up to sitting on the floor to take pads off I may just wait a while then replace both sets as they are more than 50% worn.
  6. Hi Steve I am crocked at the moment with a bad back so as soon as I can bend enough to get a wheel off and take a picture i'll post it with any other observations
  7. Just had a service and a safety check on my 03 ls4340, they gave me an advisery regarding unusual wear on rear brakes aparantly they were only 75%, not totaly sure what was meant but looking at the disk it would appear that the pads ar'nt in full contact with the disk any thoughts before I start replacing parts. thanks for looking. ERIC
  8. Done that worked a dream I should have asked here first instead of searching through the manual, thank you a brilliant result. Eric
  9. Hi Iv'e ben out of touch for a while but just to bring you up to date having heard of at least one other 430 going the same as mine I have changed my atf cooler to air and taken it away from from the rad this vehicle has a full service history so all fluids should be correct but a very expensive repair and the cost of changing to air was only about £80 and took anly an hour.
  10. Hi can anybody give some advice. The a/c filter alarm was coming in during system check, so I changed it but it stayed on, so I took the filter out but the alarm is still coming on, nothing showing on my diagnostic gismo so any advice/help would be most gratefully recieved. Regards Eric
  11. Mine is a 03 plate and I had a major failure of the gearbox due to the oil cooler failing and dumping a large amount of cooling fluid into the gearbox however a friend who has same model did a simple conversion to an air cooler cheap about £70 for all parts and about an hours work I have done the same and all works fine worth thinking about I know that this has happend to one or two others. good luck with your search
  12. Can anybody tell me were I can get the nylon inserts that the sump cover fixings screw into, a couple of mine need replacing and I'm a long way from a dealership.
  13. The mirrors on my 430 sometimes stick part open or part closed a squirt of spray oil sorts it but i'm thinking that a good clean and some lubrication will sort thie problem but I can't work out how to get into them any advice would be most welcome.
  14. has anybody any experiance of Marrelli lpg systems and were you can puschase spares.
  15. I know it should be ok but once a seed of doubt is sown. I'm not in a rush to fit cooler but at cost of £70 for parts I think I'll do it a bit later in the year I'll post results just for intrest, my mate reckons gear changes are smoother since fitting his so we'll see. regards to all.
  16. After my gearbox failure a mate has converted his 430 to air cooled atf a quick and simple job has anybody any experiance with this conversion as I am considering doing the same. Does a 430 have atf high temp warning light on dash? pheobe.
  17. First I would thank all members that offered advice it really did help. I have had a repair carried out at Lexus Carlisle who were a great help and did all they could to keep the price as low as possible ( but it still cost a small fortune) a total rebuild but it's better than when I bought it. Which makes me think that there was a problem apart from cooler failing so following advice given here now in touch with trading standards will keep you informed of outcome. Gave Lexus dealership my extended warranty details and they dealt with the company direct and although first indications were that I would be lucky to get anything like the full limit permitted to each claim, they paid the max promptly on my sending details required. so full marks to auto protect. I still don't understand why water in the oil gives an imediate failure and does so much damage, may be someone out there knows what happens to cause so much damage. Thanks again for all advice
  18. This may be to late with regard to your LPG conversion, I had my 03 ls430 done near Preston although I live a good distance away it suited me at the time, it may be in your area so I thought I would mention the following. The actual gas conversion works great i'ts bang on with gear changes at all speeds and revs can't fault it, but the installation could have been so much better. Left with iron filings in boot, what looks like spark burns in the boot carpet, a VSC warning light that needed a trip to Lexus to have it cleared and worst the dipped lights stopped working due to a broken wire in loom took me a long time to find that, also with a little bit of forthought they could have fitted the 100ltr tank better to allow the spare to go back into it original space it only took me an hour and it's sorted, what a shame a good business being spoilt by poor workmanship, or was I just unlucky if you want any more info let me know how and i'll contact you.
  19. Yes purchased July this year but with only three months warranty which I extended As Steve says, this 3 months warranty is a load of rubbish. Sale of Goods Act 1979 covers you for 6 months if purchased from a dealer. If anything goes wrong in 1st 6 months the dealer is liable unless he can prove it wasn't faulty or developing the fault at the time of your purchase.....it's known as "reverse burden of proof". Check with trading standards if he doesn't play ball. The only bad point might be that you have had work done on it but still worth quoting the Act. I wouldn't mention the fluid change The vehicle needed general servicing didn't it? Thank you for info but working from the invoice date I am just outside 6 month period sods law eh!!
  20. Yes purchased July this year but with only three months warranty which I extended I think you will find that the Sales of Goods Act coveres secondhand vehicles bought from motor dealers and dispite the usual "Sold as seen no warranty given or implied" which does not mean a thing in law you have a minimum of six months warranty on the car under the must be fit for purpose section. Contact the vendor and test the water, if you get a negative response mention Trading Standands and then contact them. Also as mentioned I would ask why trained Lexus mechanics are unable to diagnose a contamination problem of the ATF when they replaced it. Have a read below regarding the 6 months warranty. "If you take the vehicle back within six months of buying it, the dealer should accept that there was a problem when the vehicle was sold and offer to repair or replace it. If the dealer doesn't accept that there was a problem when the vehicle was sold, they will have to prove this." Full details are on the link below under buying from a dealer including the section quoted above. According to this you have the right to return the car to the dealer for repairs to be carried out at their expense or ask for a refund taking into account you have had the car for 5 months. The dealer has to prove the car was not defective when you bought it ( very difficult to do) it is NOT up to you to prove it was so don't get embroiled in an argument as to who is responsible, it is always the dealer. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_world/consumer_affairs/buying_second_hand_vehicles.htm#you_bought_the_vehicle_from_a_dealer Do not give up the law is on your side and there are plenty of options to look into, we recently had another member involved in a faulty transmission after a dealer repair which resulted in a "burnt out transmission" The last we heard they had under pressure replaced the transmission for free. Finally kep a note of dates and times of contact with any 3rd party and send any written correspondence by Recorded Delivery keeping the receipts to hand.
  21. I am a little bit suspicious, this car obviously had this problem when you bought it and I would be having a word with the vendor .I would also be a bit dissapointed in your Lexus dealership in not identifing the watered transmission fluid when they changed it ,did they do a complete change 8 litres or just change the pan contents either way there would have been enough in a container to see the contamination. Lexus will say the box is knackered as they do not do repairs just replace I would find a good independant transmission specialist and get a second opinion before you spend any money on anything. I doubt if the vendor would be inerested they never even returned my calls when asking about the spare key. It's way to far to travel to argue. In fairness to Lexus the car completed some 2k miles since oil change and I did check colour myself after a while and it looked ok I do think it was a sudden cooler failure but I doubt if I will ever know thank you for your interest
  22. Yes purchased July this year but with only three months warranty which I extended
  23. Hi just some sad info that may prom't members to check one or two things I bought a ls430 six months ago with 103k miles on clock the ATF was disscoloured and members advised oil/filter change which I had done via a LEXUS dealer not cheap but properly done. 2k later a total failure of gearbox due to water in box (cooler failed) investigation by LEXUS shows totaly knackered g/box so keep a close eye ATF and cooling water colour and levels. Will be looking for air cooler if I get it back on road. Not sure how to proceed can't afford new box or rebuild had extended warranty but a very fast backpeddling from them when informed of potential claim all sorts of clauses that I should have picked up on I supose but not to obvious when first read so beware of this as well. Totally p_ _ _ _ d off Pheobe
