  1. Thank you for this info. Do you think that he would mind if I contacted him to find out a price?
  2. Hi again, Thanks for getting back to me again. Yes your word 'wincing' was the very reason that prompted my question! I have seen one or two references to the map updates on the forum and yes they do seem to be very costly. Thanks again.
  3. Hello again Simon_D, I have sent you a PM but am not sure that I did it right so you may not have received it. I have been in contact with Lexus Exeter and they have quoted me £92.98 including VAT for a set of mats for my car. I am wondering if you paid a similar price and if so, do you regard them as being good value for that sort of money? I have seen others on the internet but of course you can't 'see before you buy'. Thanks for your help on this.
  4. Hello Simon_D, Thanks for your suggestion,. I particularly wanted them to use at this mucky time of the year. I have found a website that seems to sell good quality mats but would like to use someone who has been recommended. I will follow up your suggestion though and will call my local dealer tomorrow to see how competetive they are pricewise. Thanks again.
  5. Hello folks, Now that I have got my IS220d I thought that I would treat myself to some decent quality car mats to protect the carpets. Has anyone treated themselves to same and if so, do you have any recommendations as to where to go to obtain some. Many thanks.
  6. Today I have 'paired' my new iphone to the system in the car and yes it now connects automatically each time I get into the car, so all now sorted. Thanks to all who offered assistance.
  7. Hi again, Thanks for that. I will have a look at the phone setting to see if I can do anything about that. I have treated myself to a decent phone now (an iphone) so hopefully that will work better than my old Samsung.
  8. I now have the matter sorted. The system is set to 'auto-connect' and all I have to do each time I get in the car is open up my phone and say 'yes' to the question on the screen and it is then all systems go. Thanks for all the help. The video link is most helpful, thanks too for that.
  9. welcome and good luck with the painting Thank you for your kind welcome and good wishes for the painting! 177 views and only one reply, I was surprised at that. Learning something new about my car every day is an absolute pleasure. I love the way the SatNav works, so much better than my Garmin.
  10. I have checked the set-up and it is set for auto-connect but my phone just keeps on beeping each time that I get in the car. Before finishing this reply, I went outside to try it again and this time I opened up my phone and there was a message asking if I wanted to 'auto-connect' I pressed the 'yes' button and the beeping stopped so I assume from this that from that point on I am fully connected. I assume that this same message will appear each time that I get into the car with my phone, so all I have to do is open it up and press the 'yes' button and all will be OK. Thanks for your help.
  11. Hello folks, I am seeking an answer to a bluetooth question please. I am not too brill when trying to use all of this latest technology, I am fairly good at using a pc and my phone but sometimes I come up against a brick wall so need a little guidance. I have set my phone up for use in the car and have in fact used it on a couple of accasions, incoming and outgoing. However, when I leave the car and then return to it, I thought that my phone would automatically reconnect to the system but it doesn't. I thought that I had set it up to 'Auto-Connect' but this doesn't seem to be the case. Is there something that I have not done or, do you have to reset the system each time that you use the car? Many thanks for any help that might be forthcoming.
  12. Thank you to all who have replied, most helpful. I now understand what ACC means and have tried pressing the start button without pressing the clutch down and it is similar to the first turn of the key on a conventional ignition car, giving acces to various options such as radio etc. With regard to the manual, I will have another word with the dealer. Thanks again for the input.
  13. Quite early on in the owners manual there is a reference to the engine switch being in ACC mode, can anyone please tell what this means? Also, having just purchased my car, an IS220d I have noticed that the manual that I have been given with the car is for an IS 250. When I contacted the dealer about this I was told that the manuals are 'generic' and cover both vehicles. I'm afraid that I cannot believe this as there is absolutely no reference whatsoever to the IS220d, all of the specifications refer to the IS250 and the fact that you should use unleaded fuel, no mention of diesel! Does anyone have an answer to this please and, if there is a 220d manual, does anyone know where I might get one. The 'Navigation System Owners Manual' clearly makes reference to the IS250 and the 220d. Any help will be greatly appreciated. many thanks
  14. My oh my how I loved my Rover 75 CDT SE Connoisseur which to all intents and purposes was a BMW but, my latest car is different class again. I've got myself an absolute gem of a 220d SE-L Multimedia. I just can't get enough of it, it drives like a dream, it's got everything on it. One of the best things that I have seen in a long time is the when the wing mirrors angle down when you put the car in reverse, what a brilliant idea that is! Reading the SatNav book is like settling down to read the 'Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire' It will take me a while to get my head around all of that. Now that I've got my car I shall look forward to visiting the forum pretty much on a daily basis. Am I glad that I am now one of you? you can bet your sweet bippy I am!!! I am now orf to paint a couple of ceilings, this sort of thing gets in the way of more important matters!!
  15. If economy is a big factor in your choice then the 220d is unlikely to be right car for you. I would recommend that you investigate other 'prestige' cars before making your final decision. Just my two cents. Hiya dazed, Thank you for your input. If I can get a return that is something similar to my cousin and his 220d then I will be quite happy. He went to France and Spain recently for three weeks and his overall consumption figure was just over 49 mpg. I will be happy with that.
  16. Having had a look at the MPG stats I have had to have a complete re-think. Musch as i would have loved to own a 250IS (I have always wanted to own a 6 cylinder car)I just couldn't afford to run one and so have reverted to the 220d. My cousin has had two of these and I have been really impressed with them, and so has he. Thanks to all for your comments. I will post again when I have my new car.
  17. Thank you for this input. I have now decided to abandon my pursuit of the 220D and have widened my search for a 250IS, Hopefully i will find one within my budget. Thanks again. If you are after an exceptionally fine car with decent performance, reasonable economy and a smooth, refined V6 drive; go for the IS250SEL Auto with the multimedia pack. The IS250 manual gearbox is not as good as the superb auto - the Tax disk for the Manual version actually costs more plus it provides worse economy. If you need to minimise fuel costs and are a masochist who gets off on disappointment; go for the IS220D which is everything you would expect from a 4-pot diesel car and only comes with a manual gearbox with peculiar ratios.
  18. Thank you so much for helping with this. I have put my answers beside your questions (Hope it works!!) Your comments on the price and the mileage would be greatly appreciated. What are your thoughts on the 250IS? I am sorely tempted by this model and there does seem to be a good selection available. I am really keen on the SE-L for either model. Thanks again for your input.
  19. I am now very close to purchasing my first Lexus. I have a copy of the registration document and under 'Make' it states 'Lexus' There is nothing written against 'Type' and, under 'Variant' it states ALE20(E) and under 'version' it says ALE20R-AEFLYW(1D) and under 'Model' it says IS220D. The car has SatNav and Bluetooth and Reversing Monitor and Mark Levinson Audio etc but nowhere does it mention SE or Multimedia. Does anyone have any ideas please. I am trying to ascertain whether or not I am getting a good deal at £8700 to include 12months warranty and what is termed as a 'Medium Service'. The car was first registered 03/03/2008 and has 72K on the clock. Any help/comments will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
  20. Hello again, you are being extremely helpful for which many thanks. As I have said, I am quite keen on the IS250 but do need to be aware of the mpg figures as I am a pensioner but not a well-off one. My wife has just retired and we plan to travel the UK and visit the many places that we have always wanted to visit. I also enjoy driving in France so we will probably be clocking up a few miles from here on in. I won't be wanting to spend much more than about 10K or 11K. I have thought about a Mercedes or a BMW but quite honestly I really do like the Lexus. I have always considered the IS because a cousin of mine has had 3 of them and I became smitten! It was interesting to note your choice of the IS LE, what sort of return (mpg) do you get from that? There doesn't seem to be too many of them about, what sort of numbers were produced? Thanks again for all your help. If this helps:-Using data reported on this forum, mixed Driving on Urban roads and Motorways at much the same speeds as most people - in other words neither dawdling nor racing to beat everyone else - seems to return on average 40 - 45 mpg for the IS220D and 30 - 36 for the IS250 Auto. Obviously, some will do much better and others much worse. There also seems to be much wider variation within the average for the IS220D. This is in part due to a real need to adapt driving style to suit the Diesel; but also for the various emission-control systems etc. to remain fully on song - which this forum suggests is less than entirely certain. All the extras you require are covered by MM (for multimedia) after the model No, and includes a reversing camera which seems like an un-necessary toy until you have had one. Personally, I think of the Diesel in the IS as OK in its way; but similar to how even a good Beefburger just isn't quite a Fillet Steak. Again, suggest you try Lexus Dealers. Their used-car prices are now competitive and every survey shows their aftersales/service is second to none - which I can confirm as far as my local Guildford branch is concerned. Even think about a Lexus extended Warranty - not because the cars are unreliable; but because as with most cars, an unexpected failure can bring a heart-attack sized bill, and my experience of their Warranty scheme is that they do not seek to find bizarre means to escape from coughing up as other providers may.
  21. Thank you for your input to my post 9 Thanks too to rd27 for offering some advice) Interestingly I have thought quite seriously about the IS250 and have always wanted to own a 6 cylinder car. I have only been put off by the fuel economy figures but I think that I will take your advice and hold fire for a while. i am particularly keen to have SatNav and cruise control as MUST HAVE options so would be looking to purchase an SE-L model. I will have a closer look around the internet to see what is available. Thanks again for your thoughts. If you have any further advice it will be greatly appreciated. Unless you are desperate to save a little on fuel costs by going to 4-cylinder Diesel, suggest you very seriously think about the V6 Petrol IS250. There are many niggling issues with the IS220D which particularly affect economy, plus gearbox ratios that just seem wrong. You could well be lucky and have no issues; but you are very unlikely to find any with the IS250. I would suggest Auto (IS 250 only) even if you are presently wedded to Manual boxes, plus the Multi-Media version if within your price range. The Manual box is OK but the IS250 Auto is superb - silky-smooth and relaxing to drive plus actually more economical and cheaper to tax than the Manual version. At least hold off your choice until you have tried both, and consider Lexus themselves who are keen to do deals/discounts at the moment.
  22. Hi Folks, I am totally new to this site and I am just about to purchase my first Lexus. I am almost ready to pay the man for a 03/2008 IS220D with 72000 miles on the clock. The car has full Lexus Service history and I would be interested in any comments that anyone may have regarding the mileage. The car is as good as 3.5years old and so is above average mileage for its age. The previous owner travelled the country so i would imagine that there would have been lots of motorway driving. Any thoughts/comments will be greatly appreciated. I previously was a member of the Rover 75 club and the help and guidance received on there was excellent and from what I have seen of this forum so far, it looks very much the same and so I shall look forward to becoming addicted to the site.
