  1. Hello Paul, You seem to be endorsing all that is good about Lexus (they're not perfect....but who is!) and as i said in my reply to Exiled, I am leaning heavily towards taking out the warranty with Lexus so it seems that that will almost certainly be my final choice. It is very helpful to get input from people like yourself and other members of the LOC, it is useful to hear of good experiences like your own and others that I have read on the forum, I haven't seen too many adverse comments, so it seems that the good outweighs the bad in respect of Lexus warranties. Thank you.
  2. Hi again normski2, With all that detail I think that you have convinced me to have a go with the AR6200. As soon as I have used all of my B10 I will have a go with the AR6200. I did a bit of trawling around on the internet and found some reviews by some yanks who absolutely swear by it so yes, definitely worth a go methinks. I think that Mrs Gray would have been proud of you!
  3. I have now had the paperwork through from Warranty Direct and, the premium for 24months of cover is almost exactly half of what Lexus want to charge me. On that basis I would make the assumption that the level and quality of cover offered will be lacking somewhat. I won't dismiss them out of hand but I will certainly examine the cover very carefully. Outside of the Lexus Plan, I am quite impressed with Warrantywise (Quentin Willson) which is slightly cheaper and does appear to offer more cover but, I have yet to examine this in fine detail and so will reserve judgement at the moment. Overall, the chances are that I will go with Lexus but, I have to add that owning a Lexus isn't necessarily an indication of an endless supply of pennies, therefore for those of us on a fixed income, with very little chance to replensih our savings, shopping around for good deals, regardless of what the purchase may be, is an absolute must, hence the thread to seek comments/views/recommendations or otherwise. Some very good points bluenose, there seems very little likelihood of better interest rates or higher investment returns any time soon and I agree with your purchasing philosophy. Regarding the Lexus I don't want any unexpected surprises and decided when I bought it that if I liked the car and intended keeping it for any length of time I would take out the extended warranty with Lexus. I think that the Lexus policy will be the best and I believe it will give me peace of mind at least I believe it will give me a higher percentage peace of mind than any other policy. Hi Exiled, Yes I can say that I am leaning very much towards the Lexus plan from the peace of mind angle. I have had very good service from both the Bristol and Exeter branches of Lexus. I purchased the car from the Bristol branch but purchased the 3 year service plan from Exeter as they offered me better terms (careful shopping again you see!) Yesterday I was loaned an IS250 and I have to say that I was well impressed with it. I have been a passenger in the model on a couple of occasions but yesterday was the first time that I have driven one and the experience was first class. I have been toying with the idea of changing the car and if I do it will definitely be for the 250. If I am able to change the car I hope to be able to change it before my current warranty runs out at the end of October, that would then give me a new 12 months on the new one, which I can then renew for 24 months on the 250 when it becomes due.

  5. Welcome to the LOC Daniel, plenty to interest you on here. Enjoy!
  6. Well, I have now purchased the AR6200 fuel additive and have commenced a trial. First 50 ltrs through and the car is going really well and sounds a tad better too. Early days though really. I like the AR6200 dispensing bottle, makes small measures easy to achieve. :) So, bit of a thumbs up all round. Given the miniscule cost per tank full (6p if i remember correctly) and the fact that fuel prices have dropped, its a bit of a win win really. Mpg is pretty much the same varying around 39-42 on my run to work. Fortunately, mpg has not been an issue for me with this engine. In fact I have always been quite impressed by what I get ( touching all near pieces of wood!!!!) on my motoring trips. It will be really interesting to see some more results from using the AR6200 as I feel that they will need to be pretty good when compared to the results I have achieved with the Bardahl Oils B10 additive. The cost of the AR6200 at £33.96 for 250ml is more than double that of the B10 which can be purchased for £15.00 for the same amount (250ml) Did you manage to buy cheaper than I have seen, if so where did you buy it from. If the results do turn out to be really good I would certainly give the product a go. I'm all for anything that gives better performance etc. B10 can be seen here - http://top-oils.co.uk/b10-fuel-improver-250ml-p-298.html
  7. Hi lebon, ironrose, Exiled and wendle, Thanks to each of you for your input, I am extremely grateful. did an on-line quote with Warrantywise (Quentin Willson) and the figure was very competetive at £1086.29 for 24months of cover (Lexus is £1335.00) and today the promotion material turned up in the post. I have to say that it does look to be an extremely comprehensive package and includes cover for items that are not included in the Lexus package. I think that I will have to sit down and do a 'like for like' comparison. I will also do a search of the LOC to see what has been discussed in the past and, to see if I can glean a little more to help me with my decision.
  8. Middle lane hoggers should be shot. Absolutely agree!! The number of times I have overtaken a middle laner, got myself back into the inside lane, driven a few miles, look in the mirror and, nothing else behind me other than the PITA still hogging the middle lane!
  9. Hi Folks, If I haven't changed my car by the time my current Lexus warranty runs out (October 28th) I am seriously considering taking out another Extended Warranty Plan and am wondering if anyone has any specific recommendations in this regard. Lexus are quoting me £760.00 for a further 12month plan and £1335.00 for a 24month plan. I have started scanning the internet and there are cheaper options available out there. Has anyone any experience, good or bad, of these independent providers? One of the plans I have come across is operated by Quentin Wilson, the motoring guru, anyone had one of these? Any input will be gratefully received for which many thanks in advance.
  10. Hi Paul, I cleaned my own EGR Valve and got some excellent results in respect of mpg returns. You don't need to remove the fuses to reset the ECU, just disconnect the negative lead from the battery and leave it off for a while. I left mine disconnected overnight but you might not need to leave it that long. have a look at this link to a thread by Matus, it covers the resetting of the ECU in there. Hope this helps. http://www.lexusowne...showtopic=72447 Bluenose1940, does disconnecting the battery have any effect on anything else ? Hi again Paul, No everything works fine with one exception. You have to reset the 'one-touch' window operation which is really very easy to do. All you have to do is firstly turn the ignition on and go to each window in turn, hold down the switch whilst the window winds down and, whilst it is fully open continue to hold the switch down for 6 seconds, release the switch and then hold the switch up until the window is fully closed and continue to hold the switch up for 6 seconds again. Release the switch and you are back in 'one -touch' mode again. Do this for each window in turn.. Simples! It would then be worthwhile going back to the link that I gave you earlier (from Matus) regarding 'driving style'

  12. Hiya and welcome to the LOC. Have a look at this link and in particular, posts numbers 10 and 27, this may be of help to you. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=75516&hl= vibrating interior mirror&st=0
  13. Hi again ComfyCruiser, I have checked the compatibilty of my iphone 3GS to the Lexus system and unfortunately it doesn't support the 'phonebook' transfer so it won't support your iphone 4 either but, i have checked your Blackberry Bold and it seems that it does support the 'bulk transfer' in this instance.Have a look at this link - http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/lexuscare/reference-library/bluetooth-compatibility-check.aspx Hope that this is of help to you.
  14. Hi Brett, this looks a really interesting piece of kit (having googled it myself like the other Geof) i have noticed though that the guages are on sale at quite a variance in pricing, from really really cheap, through £79 up to £125.00. Which did you opt for and what influenced your choice. Thanks.
  15. Hi Graham, Thank you very much for your valued input. I have noticed that the Poorboys items do get a fair amount of mention on here and, with the added endorsement from yourself I will get some ordered and get my elbows into top gear! Thanks again for your help.
  16. I'm going to be giving my car a really good clean inside and out very shortly as it finally looks as though we are in for a fine spell of weather. I have an Argento Ice IS220d and am wondering if any members of the LOC have come across any cleaning solutions that they have used on this colour car and, that they can say that they are really pleased with the end results. I have read threads where owners of other colour of car (Blacks and Greens) swear by certain products but have not spotted any input from owners of light coloured cars. Where members have used a certain product on their dark cars, they have mentioned in passing that the don't think that the product would give the same results on lighter coloured cars. I shall also be wanting to treat the leather interior which is also very light in colour. I shall be looking to clean and protect the leather. Another thing that I want to do is to clean the black interior areas with a product that will ensure that it retains its matte finish as opposed to a shiny finish. I have tried to clean the black interior threshold areas that have scuff marks but, have found that a simple damp cloth is ineffective and so I will need to get hold of something that will eliminate the scuff marks but, I'm not a fan of that 'Back to Black' stuff. Many thanks in advance of any input/guidance from other members.
  17. Hi again normski2, no matey it's not you that's daft, it's me. I started my original thread in the "Lexus general discussions" forum but it didn't generate any responses so I moved it here, but totally forgot to put it into the GS 300 forum. It's an age thing you know!!! Not too sure how many threads you can have on the go at any one time, so might leave it here a bit longer and then try it in the other forum. Thanks for spotting the error.
  18. Thank you, I will keep looking. You got yourself a good deal at that price. Hope I can do the same. I really don't want to spend the silly money that Lexus are asking. I really don't know how they can justify the price! Hi Geoff, I can do one for £36.59 posted if you are interested :) Andy Ha Ha this is really strange Andy, I was justing looking to see how I could send you an email to check what sort of price you could do this at and just happened to be scrolling past the 220d/250 forum and spotted my post with your response. So, many thanks for this and yes I will do a deal at that price. How do i pay you then?
  19. Thank you, I will keep looking. You got yourself a good deal at that price. Hope I can do the same. I really don't want to spend the silly money that Lexus are asking. I really don't know how they can justify the price!
  20. Does anyone know of anywhere that sells the IS Vertical Cargo Net at an acceptable price. The genuine Lexus net is priced at around £57.00 which is a bit OTT for a bit of net! I have spotted a number of nets on ebay but none for the Lexus. Any help/pointers will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. EDIT : GOT A GOOD DEAL ON A NET TODAY WITH ANDY AT LEXUS POOLE - THANK YOU ANDY
  21. Hello Rick, Thank you for your comments on this. I did mention in my original post that I would be looking for a low mileage car (if poss) and about 5years old (my budget falls around this sort of level, although if I should have a windfall I might be able to afford something a little newer) I too am no longer a youngster but never really feel my age (born in 40) and like yourself I am partial to a sedate and comfortable drive with the acceleration being there if and when I need it. I do have this with my 220d. I also like all of the goodies on the car, SatNav, good audio, memory seats etc, that all come with the SE-L Multimedia model, which as I say I will be looking for again when I change. I was quite impressed when looking at the GS300 but haven't yet had any owners contribute to my thread. I recently did a modification to the wing/door mirrors on my car which folds them in/out when the doors are locked/unlocked. I understand that this is something that is already fitted to the newer models. I'm really pleased that I did it because when I'm 50 yards away wondering if I locked the car, then a simple look back and if the mirrors are folded in, then the car is locked! Thanks again for your comments.
  22. Hiya ComfyCruiser, have a look at this thread for starters, it might be of some help. I have'nt managed to crack mine yet but will have another go when I get the chance. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=77009&hl=&fromsearch=1
  23. I originally put this thread in the Lexus General Discussions Forum but it hasn't seemed to attract many viewers nor any comments so I thought that I would give it a go here. There is a good chance that I will be in a position to change my car at some point during this year. I currently have a Lexus 220d and am extremely pleased with it and will be sticking with Lexus for the change. I am very interested in getting either an IS250 or a GS300. i shall be looking at similar spec to what I have at the moment, i.e. an SE-L multimedia and about 5 or 6 years old with as low a mileage figure as I can get my hands on. Just wondering what fellow members thoughts are on these particular models. Also is anyone able to comment on the acceleration on either of these cars in comparison to the 220d. I am quite impressed with mine at the moment. Thanks for reading and for any input.
  24. I have done this modification of the mirrors on my 57 plate IS220d and it works just fine. Have a look at my contribution to this thread earlier this year http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=75371&st=20 Michael in Australia was extremely helpful. I think that mine was the first 220d to do the modification.
  25. Hiya, I have put one or two threads on this forum in the last few months. I too was a bit concerened with some of the adverse comments that I read, hence my starting the following thread (have a look at it)http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=76569 and in particular the last post that I made on it. The 220d is a super car and I really enjoy driving mine. When I was looking to buy my first Lexus, one or two people pointed my in the direction of the IS250 and on relection I wish that I had purchased one as I have always wanted a six cylinder car. Initially I was put off by the power mpg but with my circumstances changing somewhat It is possible that I may be in a position to change my car later this year and am really interested in either the IS 250 or the GS300. You might like to give some thoughts to the IS250 but, if you choose to get the 220d and it's a good one I'm sure that you will be pleased with it. Mine is a 57 plate and it is absolutely imaculate
