  1. Not quite sure why but I'm viewing an invite to whatever Skillpages is, made by an "extreme entrepreneur" with an obviously false name with the same level of credibility I'd give to a Nigerian offering money.

  2. I find it a bit choppy slowing down to traffic lights, as if the drive-by-wire brake isn't quite as well programmed as it was in the CT I had before. Not quite as smooth as it should be ! My solution is to hit the Chill Pill and drive in Eco around town. It seems to smooth the brakes out enough, plus you're less champing at the bit when waiting for the guy in front to change gear
  3. Think i may be on to something. I'm still cold but not quite as cold as i have been getting ...

  4. My iPhone 5 mostly behaves itself when hooked up to my IS300h. I'd like to say it's perfect but ... I've seen the contacts bug once; I occasionally have to restart the car to have it see the phone. 99% there but not perfect ! I'm still running iOS6 which may have something to do with it.
  5. Today's driving weather has gone past Nasty, Dangerous, Holy ***** and into Wow.

  6. I need to have IE 4 or greater to install Photoshop Elements. So that's not happening ...

  7. And i wish fb would stop asking me to review places i've only been to once, many months ago

  8. Hi Dochybrid, On my last fill up, the petrol light lit up on the way in to work and I filled up on the way home. I don't have that long (5 miles!) to drive in so, a fill up of 56.5 litres suggests it comes on at 56 litres used or 10 litres reserve.
  9. Economy - I've got up to 50mpg in mine, which I'm very happy with. Yep, it's less than the 60mpg quoted but I don't think you'll ever see close to the quoted figure in any car. It's too much a controlled conditions test. It's a test that gets consistent numbers between different manufacturers cars but it also sees silly results like the 100mpg+ figures that are quoted for plug in hybrids. What I'm really happy about is that I'm losing much less against the quote than with the CT I had before. My sig has the Fuelly link to my IS and this link will take you to the numbers I was getting on the CT : http://www.fuelly.com/car/lexus/ct200h/2011/Sleepypete/91945 CT - quoted 69mpg, achieved 48 average, although I was seeing minor improvements in that to a consistent low 50s after I stopped bothering updating Fuelly. IS - quoted 60mpg, achieving 46 average and improving with every fill up. My current tank is reading 53.5 on the computer which will turn into perhaps 49 at the pump. So that extra performance in the IS gives extra flexibility which helps out the mpg. Performance ? It's a 220bhp car with double the torque that you'd expect. I rarely drive in Sport now (don't have to !) and I drive in Eco in town to tame some of the drive-by-wire responses (the brake can be a little choppy in mine at low speed). Off the line, you have to be careful following people because of our CVT gearbox, our car continues to gather speed while they're changing gear. That CVT gearbox is worth a mention actually. The CT felt quicker than the 10sec to 60 car it was. It felt as quick as my Puma (9sec) and almost as quick as my Focus ST170 (7.5). The reason is that the CVT gearbox lets the car give you everything it's got, every time you ask it to. There does seem to be a little bit of motor lag in Normal that goes away in Sport. The IS has enough power to make pretty much anything go Bye-Bye behind you at the lights, plus it has a chassis which just eats sharp corners for breakfast. Happy IS300h owner here - it does that magic combination of handling, power and economy :hocus-pokus:
  10. Yeah, like the others have said, we can't manipulate the battery charge from the outside. The car does that all by itself. I suspect it'll be fairly random what charge level you get the car with, as the garage will do some pre-delivery checks which have the car turned on. And then the system will take it from there whether it sits with engine on or runs off the hybrid battery. For info - there's 2 batteries in our IS300h's : Little 12V bootstrap battery - this is the one that fires up everything else. Big 650V traction battery - the car keeps this between 20% and 80% charge. If a rechargeable battery gets too flat, irreversible changes can happen to the electrodes which wreck the battery. Hence that 20% hold. If it gets too full, then the processes involved in squeezing the extra Joules in there can cause problems as well, hence trying to keep it at around 80% max. (It'll charge more if it has to). I wouldn't worry too much if you get the battery at half full, it evens out so quickly that you won't lose out at all. It's not like a plug in hybrid or E-Car battery where half a battery means 10s or more of miles. I hope you enjoy your IS300h as much as I am mine
  11. I think the "let's get out of here before the game" exodus is starting ...

  12. There's no better way to start off coming back from leave than to get a wave from a pair of pretty ladies.

  13. I think I need to congratulate a neighbour. I just discovered a wifi network near me called "CakeForPassword".

  14. think I need to acquire another image editing program. Photoshop Elements was great but I no longer have access to it. The Gimp is what I'm using now but it's selection UI is nasty.

  15. I've managed 620 when the fuel light came on - that was mostly motorway travel though. More info in the Fuelly link in the sig, almost all of those are from filling up when the light went on although I think there's one short fill and the first was a top up before a full fill. PS Had quick peek, ok so only a couple are full fill ups !
  16. at this stage in the cricket + Le Mans + ignoring the football, I am considering pulling out a book

  17. and now we start watching the work laptop from the other side of the room (while doing something else) to see when it deigns to decide that it actually wants to connect to the work network.Could be a while ...(I'm not planning on working, just checking if I'll be allowed in to the car park tomorrow)

  18. My record in EV is now 2.5 miles ! And that could have been further - after that 2.5 miles is a slope that's a little too much for the electric only. In my CT, I could do the 1.5 miles between the start of a 30 and their house without the engine on and it barely touched the battery. That's on the flat though and hoping to avoid stopping at junctions. That's the thing : On the flat, constant speed = huge range on the electric Hills - will pull in the engine, although we have more scope available than in the CT I had before Stop/start - the constant acceleration/deceleration will drain the battery quick It's the change in energy that drains the battery : Kinetic energy from stop/start Potential energy from going up hills You can get a few miles on electric only but you have to be quite gentle on the throttle to do it. The IS300h is way superior to the CT there, there's more scope available in electric to hold 40 going up a slight incline and we can accelerate (gently!) up to 40 too without the engine.
  19. after 5 minutes back home, deluge ! Think I timed my escape from work just right, including going to polling station on the way instead of at half time in the cricket

  20. They work for me ! Scary. Very scary. Brings to mind when I was unlucky enough to have a Metro 114 for a weekend, that felt like driving a tin coffin where the slightest impact would fold it in half. It's sad that modern cars are so much heavier than what I started driving in (Astra Mk1 1.6 with 90bhp but light enough for 100 bhp/tonne) but at least we have more chance of living through accidents.
  21. Ok so the latest FB ios app update has taken away the "Most Recent" option for the news feed. But you can still find it under "More". Why does FB insist on the crappy version of the news feed ?

  22. I should really route Eurovision through the hifi but I don't want to cause it permanent damage

  23. Sohocoffee club strike again ... Gonna be hunting Roxette albums when i get home. How do i not have much of their stuff. ?

  24. The guy next door is using so much tape i'm fearing that he's ductaping himself to the desk.I daren't look over the partition ...

  25. Today, Bristol traffic patterns rung true - i got to the bus stop 10 minutes later than yesterday and got to the office 10 minutes earlier
