Modern cars have too much electronics to fail and hard to service by the DIY owner. Very tight engine bays.
It will be the electrics that will kill off the modern car or manufacturers make a component hard to get to, so many pounds labour involved. Also if the fault code reader says no fault, stumped.
Today I fitted my new in tank fuel pump on my 940. Fiddly job as all hose clamps seized, but all fixed by me. Great having an older car as someone has been there and done the job before. I had a nice guide to follow.
Never seen an LS400 in the flesh. Quite fancy one, but insurance costs are high. Looked into insuring an RX400H and that was £750 for me. One day I'd like to try a 400H or GS450 or an LS430!

I think the LS represents such a significant step forwards that it has every right to be considered as a 'proper' classic and command a decent price. I've used mine today and still marvel about what it does, and how it does it.
I didn't pay a lot for mine, but it was a case of being in the right place at the right time and the price agreed was one which will allow me to fund future works and try to keep it on the road for a few more years.
As I reported on here when I got mine, the issue is that some insurers don't see the early LS's status in the same way. FJ only seemed to accept it on my classic policy as I already had five cars insured with them, if I'd have gone to them as a new customer then they'd have turned me away.
Hi.
Just to let you know that we have a number of classic car schemes that can cater for this type of vehicle.

I’ve got a borla exhaust on my boxster gts and the 20 second start up is antisocial. After that it’s amazing.
I’m trying to persuade my wife to let me put a H&S on the ISF but it’s a hard sell.
In particular i think the insurance will jump.

Hi.
Just to let you know that we offer a 12 month product called Total Loss Protection. Whilst it's not exactly the same as your traditional GAP insurance we feel for some customers it can make a cost effective alternative.
Please feel free to take a look if you wish.

Adrian Flux supporting the Lexus Owners Club
With the UK in coronavirus lockdown many people are asking what help their insurance provider can provide in these trying times.
Adrian Flux has a special relationship with the Lexus Owners Club and here we answer some of your coronavirus insurance questions.
Is Adrian Flux still open for business?
We are still available to take your calls and respond to emails. Our opening hours remain the same and you can still use the website to request policy changes and access policy information.
Can I still change my Lexus motor insurance policy?
Yes, we are still here to help with your queries or you can use MyAdrianFlux to access and change your policy.
I have been advised to self isolate. Can I pause my motor insurance?
It is a legal requirement to have valid car insurance unless your car is registered as off the road. Therefore we aren't able to “pause” your policy; it must be active or cancelled.
Cars can be damaged by accident or fire and they can be targeted by thieves even when unused and parked on private property so you may find it cost-effective to convert to laid-up insurance cover.
If you take laid-up cover while you fine tune your Lexus for the show season it will remain protected but the policies are cheaper because there is no third party risk.
Doctors have advised me to self isolate. Am I still covered to drive?
You will still be covered to drive but we advise against driving during the lockdown unless absolutely essential, especially if you are showing symptoms which could impair your ability.
If you have concerns about your motor insurance, contact us on the dedicated Lexus Owners Club line 0800 587 6313 or visit the Adrian Flux website to see more:

Hi and welcome.
With regards to insurance I'm afraid it would be extremely difficult to obtain competitive insurance even with a black box at 17 for that type of vehicle.

@Shahpor Thanks for the warm welcome! I have a carport but I am hoping to clear out my garage in time so that I can store the car in there.
I am still debating about the insurance as the car will be kept in a locked up garage! By the way great choice of colour for your GS450h 👍
@999101999 Wishing you all the luck with the sale of your IS200. I have mine advertised for sale as well with no luck but I am not in any rush to sell.
To everyone else please stay safe and we will all pull through this challenging times.
Hi and welcome.

Hi Malc. Thank you, happy to stay with cracked mirror as MoT has not been affected. But yes please, details of your suppler in case the May20 MoT is an issue.
I owned a 2009 Legend, very pleasant though quite different to the LS600h, possibly because of the Lexus' long-wheel base and air-suspension. The Legend's radar active-cruise control would be disturbed by high-sided trucks on the inside lane, whereas the LS600h's seems to save fuel! When, at 33 months old, Honda refused to honour the replacement under their standard 3years warranty of the Legend's nearside mirror assembly (£800+) I quickly sold the car to a trade buyer and that was my last Honda. To be fair they were suffering from the after-effects on their business of the tsunami. Happy memories, though, of 4wheel-steering VTi Preludes. The last one had been the late LJK Setright's car, a special import with active suspension - sadly sold when it overnight erupted with rust.
I'm disturbed by broker Adrian Flux' behaviour: having agreed AND emailed me their quote, to insure the Ls600h with Aegeas on 27Dec with mirrored 11years no-claim-bonus, they then upped the premium by £250 as "mirroring costs more" when I phoned on 2 January to pay and start cover. Shoddy. They've lost the business for the soon-to-be rewed SC430 and the LS600h.
Hi.
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with ourselves. If you wanted to PM me your details I'd be happy to take a look into what happened.

Dan.
