  1. No Andy it isn't a difficult job, if you look on this site about half way down the page is a PDF file on how to do it. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/44772-back-up-lights/ Once the tailgate trim is removed it took about 30mins.
  2. Did you take the deflector off? I live in a dark lane so it got to the stage that i was reversing out of my drive occasionally getting out sometimes to double check. Now i feel a lot more confident now i can see.
  3. No lamp failure fault came up. The lights shine out like a torch and make a beam of light on the road a bit like headlights. I obviously fitted them during the day and just fitted one to compare and didn't think they looked much brighter just a white light. But if you put a piece of board or cardboard behind the light with the car in reverse. (Handbrake firmly one so you don't get run over) you can see the original lamps just glow and give out very little reflective light compared to the led bulbs.
  4. I brought LED reversing lights from here on eBay car_tuning_shop_uk The bulbs you want are W16W I brought the Cree 5w at £16.50 for the pair but they have a selection of different types. With the silver deflector still in place it helped, removing the deflector plate which took about 30mins and it has made the world of difference, I can now see what is behind me when reversing both in the mirrors and the camera.
  5. I am sure the AA Solar charger at 2.4W will do the same job as the ICP at 4.3W. This is more a battery maintainer than a battery charger. It is just replenishing the small drain on the battery from the alarm and all those clicks, hums and buzzing sounds when you shut the engine off. I have a 1.5W solar charger from Maplins that keeps my 36 year old VW Camper trickle charged over the winter, obviously it doesn't plug into the EOBD socket as these weren't invented then and there are no electronic gadgets draining the battery. My camper is covered so the solar charger is left outside in the rain and horrible weather all winter and the blue light on the solar charger fashes away when ever it is light.
  6. I brought a solar charger that plugs into the EOBD socket about 10 months ago and it works great. I left my Lexus rx400 for 3 weeks in a Gatwick car park with this plugged in and the car started first time without any problems. The car park was outside, I am not sure how good it would be in a multi storey car park. My son has an Audi A3 and works abroad for several weeks at a time and when he returns his battery was always flat just a click from the starter solonoid. He borrowed my EOBD solar charger and hasn't had any problems with the car not starting since. I brought him the AA solar charger you mentioned as an extra xmas present so I could get mine back. I got mine from Granada batteries but I see they are out of stock. http://www.granadabatteries.co.uk/icpoemautomotivesolarchargerobd240006dz43w-p-1083.html
  7. Hi, It is just to the left of the bonnet release lever. It is a bit tricky to see unless you are on your knees, but once you know where it is and work out which way the plug goes in it is fine.
  8. Hi, There is no need to have the cigarette socket made live so you can use a solar charger, just buy one that plugs into the OBD2 socket. I brought one and it works fine. See the links on this forum regarding battery problems. I have put the link in there where I brought mine.
  9. I purchased mine from here, but I see they are out of stock. http://www.granadabatteries.co.uk/solarbatterychargers-c-154.html I am more than pleased with it. I did speak to Granada batteries on the phone, as the one review on Amazon for what looks like the same product wasn't good. They said that they have sold loads of them and haven't had any complaints
  10. Hello, I have now purchased a solar charger that plugs directly into the OBD 2 socket on my Lexus RX400. For those who do not know where this is or what it is. It is located next to the bonnet release it is a 16 pin diagnostic socket that has a connection direct to the battery via a fuse. The solar charger plugs directly into this quite easily, there is no crawling on the floor. Ok you may need to kneel down the first time just to see which way up the plug goes. I am using my Lexus daily so I am testing it on my sons Audi which he has left in my drive as he is working abroad. I know that the battery on this is not good and if left any longer than 5 days it will not start. I took a voltage reading using a digital multimeter and then plugged the solar charger in. I have found that although it is called a solar charger it is more of a battery maintainer, the battery voltage has stayed the same over 24 hours. I will continue to test it and post on here if I think it is worth buying... cost £35 I intend to use this when I leave my Lexus to go on holiday for 2 weeks next month.
  11. Hello, I have read many of the problems regarding the auxillary battery on the RX 400H when the car has been left for a long time. A solar charger seems to be the easiest solution to this. I have noticed that many people have had the lower cigarette adaptor connecting to the battery via a fuse so it is live all the time. Has anyone tried the solar chargers that connect directly to the OBD 2 socket? There seems to be a few on the market and as far as I can see this would be an obvious choice with no modification to the car. Here is one link but there are lots out there http://www.csepowertech.com/cse/html/pr_automotive.php I am thinking of getting one so any feed back would be great.
  12. Hi everyone, I have just traded in my Mercedes C320 CDI for a lexus RX 400H. The Mercedes was a great car with a good performance and didn't drink too much diesel. I just needed more space as I have 2 grandchildren in car seats and I need space for an adult in the back to. I have had the Lexus for 3 days and it is a totally different car, I love the quietness and the smooth takeup. The performance is a little less than the Mercedes and I expect the fuel economy will be a bit less, I am averaging 28mpg in the 150miles i have done so far. But then again petrol is cheaper than diesel so I sould take that into account. There are more positives than negatives with the car, but if I had to say the negatives :- No front parking sensors....It is a big car and at the moment i am finding it hard to judge the front. No speed camera warning on the sat nav... Or is there an update? Thanks
