  1. Sorry Nelmo that's not the case most SUV's capable of towing have trailer stability linked to the car's ECU but I believe Lexus who don't actually recommend towing with the RX have omitted this capability Edit; Even Skoda provide this on their saloon cars...disappointing omission for Lexus considering it's a safety issue. http://www.skoda.co.uk/models/HotspotDetail?HotspotName=New%20%C5%A0KODA%20Superb%20-%20Trailer%20Stability%20Assist&WebID=ae96cdca-03f5-4650-9cb4-7f88289cf501&Page=technology
  2. Oponeo have some great online prices delivered to your door, they don't offer a fitted price so you would need to factor that into your budget
  3. I googled it and watched some of the videos on youtube, I suppose it will do the job but some of the other video links suggest ordinary water sprayed into the breather inlet works just as well. Apparently the water turns to steam in the cylinder and strips the carbon in the same way terraclean does without costing £100 for the pleasure :winky:
  4. Thanks for the replies...one more question does the Rx400h have a built in trailer stability (anti-sway) for towing I can't see any reference in the owners manual ?
  5. Thanks Jason and Steve feel a lot happier now was a bit worried about this
  6. Hi Guys. Took the plunge today and bought a 2006 Rx400h which hopefully I should get in the next couple of days once the dealer gives it a good service. Also in the coming weeks I'll fit some winter tyres and fit a detachable towbar for my daughters horse trailer however since I got home from the dealers I've thinking about the cold winter days ahead especially the frosty mornings and the frozen windscreens, with my old jeep I just popped out fired it up put the blowers on full blast for 15 minutes before jumping in and driving off in a nice warm cabin but can you do the same with the Rx400h?...I'm a hybrid newbie and this might be a silly question so sorry in advance
  7. Thanks Brian I suppose we will do 15,000 miles a year with the horse trailer which loaded up will be nearer 2000kg and is the max towing capacity of the lexus so will need to factor in sub18mpg and a set of tyres . I suppose the upside will be the reliability and if it's anywhere as good as my LS400 then the fuel and tyres will be almost bearable. My daughter has suggested a 2006 Kia Sorento that she has seen for £6500 but that just doesn't float my boat for 15,000 miles every year!!!!
  8. Hi folks I normally only post on the LS400 section but the Jeep I use for towing my daughters horse has packed up so on the look out for something else and thought perhaps buying a 400h to do that job. Question is will a RX400h be up to the task and does anybody on here use their RX for towing? Would really like your opinions as I'm off to see a car in Edinburgh at the end of the week....many thanks.
  9. It's all your fault Steve...if only you hadn't gone to look at it for me this cash splash could have been avoided :D Seriously though she has been an absolute joy to own over the past year and I don't have a big problem spending some money on a set of decent wheels and tyres to take her through the winter,I have had some cracking cars in the past but never have I felt as bonded as I do now to this 20 year old specimen. ................I must be going off my head!!!!
  10. I could have bought 5 Michelin winter tyres fully fitted for around £600 but I have also been thinking about giving my current wheels a refurb which would have set me back a further £300 so to get a combo like this coming up for £400 was too good an opportunity to miss. :D .... I could have my own 16" wheels with good tyres available if anyone is interested
  11. Just bought this combination for £400....5 refurbished wheels with as new (spare unused) Michelin Alpin tyres..well chuffed!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS400-Alloy-Wheels-with-winter-tyres-x5-/171480145225?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123
  12. Hi Brian...got them this morning and for the money are really good although not as hot as the picture would have you believe which is maybe just as well!!!
  13. With the weather getting colder and a MkIII with seats that won't heat decided to buy this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-12V-HEATED-CAR-VAN-FRONT-SEAT-COVER-PADDED-THERMAL-CUSHION-UNIVERSAL-FIT-/111167989398?pt=UK_Car_Interior_Accessories&hash=item19e220e696 Didn't cost a lot but will be interesting to see how effective it is at heating my fat ar*e :D
  14. What's it worth?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-LEXUS-LS400-GOLD-/171470625232?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item27ec7219d0
  15. this only applies up untill the mark 3 - mark 4 heated seats were trouble free albiet some may say a bit slow to warm up - my LS430 seats are fine aswell Your probably right Mark my previous Mk IV seats did warm up but as you say very slowly...I wonder if a better fix for a Mk III would be to find matching seats from a MkIV ?...I would imagine they would fit?
  16. ^ I think you'll find very few of us have heated seats that work, very much a weakness in the LS400 which is not an easy or cheap fix unfortunately :-(

  18. On opening the bonnet the canister was empty/clear I then started the car and immediately bubbles appeared then 10 seconds or so after that the bubbles stopped and everything went green and remained that way until I switched the car off I then waited about 5 minutes or so before the bubbles re appeared and the canister emptied or went clear.....no idea if this is good or bad???
  19. ^ That's the one I'm looking at which appears green when the air-con is working
  20. Ambermarine.....The garage told me that the target temp at the vents should be between 5c and 6c, I have just checked the the little green window on the canister and can't see any sign of bubbles so I don't know if that is significant or not??
  21. Garage recharged the car again this morning and put 850g of gas into the system. The temp at the vents is now showing 9c which although not perfect is a big improvement, he checked the pollen filter and it was pretty filthy so he air blasted it and ordered a new one which I will get fitted tomorrow he is also going to clean the vaporiser and will set up a temporary fan to blow over the condenser just to see what difference that makes. The garage have been great and only to keen to help get things right for me.
