  1. Thanks Rudy...I'm going to phone the garage tomorrow and tell them about this . As you say this could be the problem and if there is only 2/3rds of the recommended gas in the system then no wonder it's not performing properly!!
  2. He told me it was 810g for cars with front and rear air con and 700g with front only ,he didn't want to put the full 700g in due to age of the car which is why he put in 680g
  3. Yep...removed all the remaining gas then recharged with 680g of L134 gas including the correct oil, the whole process took about 30 minutes
  4. Rudy...I had a Mk4 before the Mk3 and the air con was great on that car and I can't remember it having an auxiliary fan for the air con either? What else could it be??
  5. Thanks Rupert...The air con guy said that he could fit one quite easily and actually recommended the electric fan fitted to a Vauxhall Astra...believe it or not!! Anyway I think I'll wait and see if the really hot weather returns before doing anything like that
  6. With all this good weather recently I have had to make full use of the air con and although it is working it hasn't been what you might call ice cold so took the car ( 95 LS400 Mk3) into a specialist in Dundee this morning for a check up and he gave the system a service and recharge including oil etc for £50 and although it's better (12 c at the vents) it's not brilliant. The guy reckons that the Lexus came with a front cooling electric fan for the condenser which isn't on mine and is the reason why I can't get decent cooling...Looking at the radiator there is no visible sign of a fan ever being fitted so can anyone tell me if there should be one there and if so where can I get one?
  7. Maybe I can help... I spoke to the chap Tony I think ? a couple weeks back and he told me that he had just returned from Australia and was looking to chauffeur clients to and from meetings and needed something for about 2 weeks which was cheap, reliable but most of all comfortable and felt that the Lexus did all that and more ( can't argue with that!!) anyway now that he no longer needs the car for this purpose it's up for sale. Now I have no idea whether this is true or not but he did sound genuine over the phone and the car does look tidy but as always anyone seriously interested would really need to see the car in the flesh to form a better opinion and perhaps ask more searching questions regarding the car with Tony.
  8. There is something unique and original about the Mk1 that is missing on the later models. I remember looking for a good Mk1 a couple of years ago and went to see a car that Old Baz was selling which on the surface looked fine but sadly was dying of rust in below,a common fault of the early MK1's I believe.
  9. Clean looking car but surely not worth £4480? Getting hold of a tidy Mk3 for about £1500 and then spending another £1500 on a refurb would be a better path to take. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS-400-4-0-Auto-ONE-OWNER-DRIVER-FROM-NEW-VERY-LOW-MILEAGE-/291155707147?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276

  11. I think the Mk III has the potential to be a "long liver" very much like the Mk IV
  12. At least you get a boomerang on the boot just in case you come across any kangaroos for the bbq
  13. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-ls400-/171245304763?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item27df03fbbb Ok Guys who will be the first to press the buy it now button? ;)
  14. I'm glad to hear that Azeem was a bit concerned that having paid a deposit the car was still being advertised...hope it all works out for you and look forward to seeing the photos once you get her home!!! :-)

  17. Ok a bit random this but I simply had to tell you, just completed a 10 hour round trip from Dundee to Stranraer on a freezing cold night in a cosy 20 year old Lexus with Simply Red and Bruce Springsteen keeping me company ....Never missed a beat and averaged 25mpg overall with a mix of motorway and A road miles...I have driven some classy cars in my time but this car especially considering how much/little it cost me never fails to put a smile on my face every time I take it on a road trip. I'm now safely back home sitting in my comfy chair with a large glass of wine looking out the window at her and thinking maybe I'm falling in love again!!
  18. Hi Pete...Yes it was sitting in Brook St just past M&S...I know what you mean regarding the roads!!!
  19. ^ Me too....see a fair number of 430's in and around Dundee although did see a really clean looking silver Mk3 400 in Broughty Ferry yesterday
  20. This might actually prove to be a good buy but surely you need to get rid of the nettles first before putting it up for sale..... :iraqi-info-minister: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-Ls-400-1uzfe-Engine-/271337297627?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f2cf696db
