  1. How many out of the thousands that have been made have gone? What we seem to forget is that if everyone moans when then have an issue, not many forums have people go on just to say how good the car is. Lexus seem to look after the issue and have any of the modified ones had the issue re -appear? Compare how many people complain about engine problems with the 250 or 1st generation 200 and 300 compared to the 220d. The petrol IS engines don't suffer from head gasket failures if properly maintained although I'm sure there are a few failures but in comparison to the 220d it's minuscule! And yes, I've read threads on here where the 220d has had a head gasket replaced by Lexus at around the 60k mark and even lower mileage than that and then go again in 50k miles! So the fixed ones do blow again!
  2. At the risk of offending IS 220d owners they dropped it cos it wasn't very good! My brother in law has one. It's a decent enough car really but he wishes he bought a 250 sometimes! Head gaskets blow on these all the time and he says he's just waiting for his to go. He says it's inevitable however well he looks after the car! Just look at all the threads on here about IS 220d problems! DPF filters, carbon build up, noises, shakes, rattles, the lists goes on!
  3. Utter tosh! Whatcar loves BMW and Mercedes so always slate the Jap cars especially Lexus!
  4. If you lock my IS with the key the light comes on but the alarm doesn't arm. Try it at home on yours RX. Lock it with the key then try and set the alarm off. Also read your owners manual, that's how I found out the IS doesn't arm the alarm when manually locked. All the information you need should be in there. Failing that just give a Lexus dealer a call, they'll be able to tell you over the phone.
  5. Take it back to where you had the clutch fitted. They've obviously messed something up!
  6. Dude I've tried to help you on two other threads. I have a lot of experience with the sticky calliper, twice it's happened to me and it seems to be the most common problem with the IS. Bottom line is your gonna need a new one. Once it starts to fail, it will eventually need replacing, even if you recondition it.
  7. Thanks guys, i was just curious. I can defiantly feel a difference with the button on. I'll have to wait till it snows to find out first hand! I have 18inch wheels and 225 tyres on my IS. Can't wait for the winter then! Lol... :)
  8. Hey guys. So I was wondering what exactly does the snow button do? I've never driven the Lexus in the snow yet so have no idea! My mrs drove hers last winter when we had heavy snow and she says it was useless! I remember cracking up laughing at her skidding down our road! She had to leave the car at home. When I press it I feel the car sort of stiffen up? Also I've read that by turning it on it will save you fuel. How true is this? And if true, how?? Thanks in advance Chris
  9. You can't just ustick them! New calliper or recondition it is needed. New calliper from Lexus £350 fitted, about half that from a local garage but they may not use genuine Lexus parts. Recondition for about £100 but it will eventually need replacing. Sorry to bring the bad news....
  10. This is true, when I told my dad I was buying a Lexus he said "what do you want a massive thing like that for?" he thought all Lexus were LS400! Lol....
  11. I don't have a 220d. All I know is my brother in law has one and he had the 60k service and it was £600. New brake discs were needed so he ended up paying over £750. I don't know what they change on a service prob everything. But then again I'm not buying one. But if I was I might have looked into the servicing schedule and see how much parts costs etc. Also I'd look into the reputation of the model, not just the badge. Look up some posts on here regarding IS220 head gasket. Doesn't make pretty reading.
  12. 9000 miles since Lexus last saw it. Something could have happened in that time. Also your being sold a car 1000 miles before the monster 60k service which at Lexus is about £600 I'm told and that's before they find anything wrong with it.
  13. My brother in laws 220D is smooth and refined even at full throttle. If a car makes a strange noise that worries you in the test drive then Walk away! a Lexus, even the diesel should not sound like a bag of nails! :)
  14. Sticking calliper? Drive for a few miles then get out. Do the brakes smell of burning? Feel each alloy with the back of your hand, if one is hotter than the other 3 .......sticking calliper!
  15. A bit pricey but not extortionate. Their charging you labour at £75 per hour. 2 hours to fit 2 shock absorbers. Cheaper than Lexus, they charge £110 per hour on average. My local garage that I trust charge £60 per hour, £50 per hour if you buy the part from them. Watch for the hidden costs as well, some garages will charge you up to £20 for grease etc and mark it as "sundries" on your bill. And a disposal charge for the old parts. One garage charged me £25 once to get rid of an oil filter, oil and and ehaust pipe. Lexus don't charge for these hidden costs, not in my experience anyway.
  16. I've put £5 in before when i forgot my wallet and only had £5 in the car. it didn't turn the light off and the needle didn't move :)
  17. My mrs has always names her cars, I find it kinda cute! She's had Harry the Honda, Benny the Beemer, Percy the Peugot and She had a Clio which was referred to simply as "the French bitch" as it kept breaking down and eventually the cambelt snapped! :)
  18. Haha my mrs calls hers Larry. Larry the Lexus... Lol!
  19. I've never changed the brake fluid. I've had the car 5 months, it had a full service according to the service book 15 months ago which was only 6000 miles ago. I don't do a lot of mileage and neither did the previous owner. The fluid looks healthy, Could it be as simple as that? I also have a brand new front calliper on the right front (the side it's pulling to) I was thinking this calliper might be more effective than the other causing the imbalance? The MOT guy said he thought it was cos my pads were low but I have all brand new pads now and it's pulling to the right under braking worse!
  20. Hi guys. When I had my MOT last month I had an advisory that there was a slight brake imbalance. This has now got worse. I have all brand new pads and discs all round. It pulls to the right quite significantly at speeds over 50MPH but is hardly noticeable at speeds below this. Not a sticking calliper, already ruled this out. I've had the sticking calliper twice before so am very familiar with the symptoms of which I have none! so what else causes this imbalance and how do I fix it? Is it something I can do myself or do I need to take it to a garage? Thanks in advance Chris
  21. Well mate it does sound excessive! all I can say is our 2 IS200's both 11 years old run completely quiet. If you turn the radio off and windows up not a creek or a rattle anywhere in either car. Smooth as silk! :)
