  1. Hi Box, had a 57 plate Freelander 2.2 d HSE Auto as the pool car in my last job, I used it often and driven normally got 24 round town and 28-30 on a run, could get up to 36 round Derbyshire but only changing manually, always seemed the gearbox changed up too late, like it was stuck in sports mode. Ive spoken to a few other Freelander owners with Auto gearboxes and they tell the same tale, not sure about the facelift cars though as they claim improved MPG!
  2. Hi, you can get a nice set of bespoke mats off of ebay for a lot less than £30!
  3. Hi Chaps, I can say that I do get results from Tesco Momentum, and Shell Optimax Nitro, about 2mpg around town and 3-4 mpg on a run. Not tried Sainsburys Super over a period of time just the odd tank so cannot fairly comment on it. On a recent run to Southern Spain ( only choice of 95 and 98 ron) there was a clear 3 mpg difference running 98. Just my 2 penneth! :)
  4. Hi, update, just been to Tesco, Redex petrol injection system cleaner is back on offer at £2 a bottle! :hohoho:
  5. Hi Duncan, I used Redex Petrol Injector Cleaner purely because it was on offer at tesco for £2 a bottle, I was sceptical to be honest and rather than half a bottle per tank I put a full bottle per tank in ( as was advised on some other forums), but it did the business, I reckon I had some build up on the injectors. A friend used it on his Laguna after I told him, his motorway MPG went from 32 to 37. I know the main difference between most supermarket fuels and premium fuels (shell, esso,bp), is the amount of cleaning agents used, so for the sake of a few pence per litre ! ( pre Redex I used the cheapest 95) Cheers Jason
  6. HI Ronnay, 24 with roof box and bikes seems pretty good, we had everything in the car, no extra drag. I ran a few bottles of fuel system cleaner through a few months ago after my motorway average dropped to 24, worked wonders and can now get 30 mpg at at an indicated 70 mph! cheers Jason
  7. Hi, got back from France on Saturday, dont forget 2 hi viz vests, bulb kit, and dont forget to turn the speed camera alerts off on your sat nav, also set your sat nav to KM so you can have a clear indication when driving. My RX300 speedo shows 80 mph, GPS shows 73 mph! cheers Jason
  8. Hi Chaps Just got back from Alicante in my 2001 RX300, laden to the rafters with wife, 2 kids, tent, all camping equipment, and all the paraphernalia for 21 days camping in southern Spain including an Air Con unit to keep said tent cool. Got the ferry to Santander, on the 500 mile drive to the site, taking it very steady got a very pleasing 30.4 mpg, for the first 400 mile, then the car seemed noisier, turned out the exhaust has rusted through on the connection between the manifold section and the next section, reset MPG and saw it dropped to 27.4. On the way home with exhaust blowing, driving steady due to exhaust only managed 27.7 ( doing the sums not relying on trip computer 27.3, on each calculation computer reads 0.4 over the true MPG). Also noticed in UK and abroad, high octane fuel, particularly Shell v power Nitro, though Tesco Momentum 99 is very close does seem to give between 2-3 mpg more than standard supermarket fuel. Strangely Shell Fuelsave petrol gives worse economy than cheap supermarket fuel??????????? Just my thoughts and findings :) Cheers Jason
  9. Cheers Alan, I shall continue to look for an SE-L, and hopefully it will be as reliable as yours! cheers Jason
  10. Hi Chaps, looking at a 2005 SE-L, bit worried about the reported air suspension problems, also read that from the 2005 model year RX300 SE-L, more reliable pump and sensors were used! If any one has any knowledge or experience of this please report below! Cheers Jason
  11. Hi, just for clarity, its Amazon.com not .co.uk! cheers Jason
  12. Hi, DENSO 234-4215, dont think sparkplugs.co.uk do them, Amazon is the place to go! Cheers Jason
  13. Hi, I actually have a 2001 RX300, it has never let me down, is immaculate, has a full service history! As to gearbox problems Lexus say that the gearbox oil does not need changing, this is rubbish, if you check the US forums the gearboxes on RX300 were failing between 120 and 140 thousand miles on boxes where the oil was not changed, so make sure it has a good service history, service the gearbox as soon as you get it ( Lexus Sheffield did mine for £50 ), make sure cam belts been done, and no engine warning lights are showing! Also if when you look at it, it has not got 4 good make tyres, walk away, if you cant afford decent tyres, you cant afford to look after it properly! Cheers Jason
  14. Hi Ronnay, the prices quoted on the website are the prices Lexus dealers have to charge, its part of the franchise contract, if you mention the prices quoted on the Lexus website and they do not agree to them you have a genuine reason to report them to Lexus Uk! I should nt imagine for a second that they would quote anything apart from the fixed price servicing prices! Cheers Jason
  15. Hi, £275 seems like a cracking price, but does not include the tensioner!
  16. Hi, ebay item number 390340411170. £15.49 +£1.99 p&p! Look and thou shall find! Cheers Jason
  17. Hi, not everything has to be done by Lexus, full set of genuine Denso SK20R11 RX300 spark plugs £60 ebay, fit them yourself or get Lexus to fit them for you during the service, cam belt change can be done by a local cam belt specialist, I paid £240, if you say " Im paying cash, whats your best price", that can save you too. What you re after is a well looked after car, with a Lexus stamp in the service book come sale time! NOT every thing done by Lexus main dealer. When your front and rear 02 sensors fail and Lexus quote you £660 will you pay it cos its Lexus? or will you buy Denso dox 0243 from sparkplugs.co.uk for £150 quid and fit them your self, afterwards rewarding your self with a damn fine bottle of scotch from the £510 you saved by thinking outside the box( lexus dealer)! cheers Jason
  18. Hi Chaps, Im pretty sure the 2wd RX300 was never sold in the uk, Lexus always give the UK less choices, so we dont get confused! Cheers Jason
  19. Hi Mac, like I said before, DENSO DOX 0243, FROM SPARKPLUGS .CO.UK, £75, same part, different part number, same make and spec, as fitted to many rx300s in the US and UK, just as I fitted to mine! cheers Jason google denso dox 0243 Lexus Rx300 and there is plenty of info on it!
  20. Hi Ronnay, had my major service done at Lexus Sheffield using their Lexus Essentials service plan, also had gear box oil changed ( £50),if your Lexus is over 5 years old you are entitled to this cut price servicing, plus you get a Lexus stamp in your service book ( priceless, almost) AND you can request a courtesy car and they clean it! It cost about £80 quid more than my local garage quoted, and is worth a damn site more than that should you come to sell it! Cheers Jason
  21. Hi Jason, my point is potenzas are TERRIBLE in snow, as they are performance car tyres, not SUV tyres, yes on a summers day they are great, on a cold winters day they are a bit *******! In snow they are really bad, on my RX8 on a nice day they are very good indeed! cheers Jason
  22. Hi Shaho, its a Lexus not a Land Rover, just sit there, the car does the rest! Cheers Jason ps. these are rubbish off road, but excellent in snow, if you re struggling in the snow your tyres are knackered/cheap ditchfinders/Bridgestone Potenza or you have 4wd problems!
  23. Hi Mac, sounds mysterious, if it was me I would be taking it for an Italian tune up, to clear up any crap in the exhaust and Catalyst system, as long as your car is in good health it will do your car good, driving like Miss Daisy ( which I do to achieve 24 mpg ) is not good for an engine, give it some stick occasionally, it will negate the need for carbon removal remedies and is more fun! Cheers Jason
  24. Hi Hank, Im pretty sure there is a known weakness with this gearbox ( think I read it on US Lexus forum) , and from what I recall they advised changing the gearbox oil every 50k, this is why I had mine done, no other reason, as my gearbox is fine! BUT, since talking to a mate of my brothers who runs a Auto gearbox repair shop, who said to me quote" if people changed there auto gearbox oil regularly I would nt have enough work to earn a living wage" Also if you watch programmes like Wheeler Dealers, Ed China always changes the Auto Gearbox Oil as soon as he gets an auto in! I remember a Jag on there that wasnt shifting well, a new filter and oil change sorted it! I would ring Lexus UK help line, they really should nt be able to refuse a perfectly reasonable request as you have made. Cheers Jason
  25. Hi Hank, why wont Lexus do you a drain and change? Lexus Sheffield did a drain and change on my 2001 RX for £50. Cheers Jason
