  1. Gear oils i change every year its only a few litres and costs less than a new gearbox or diff work

The transmission oil is a GL4 And a GL5 oil thats used

every year when its drained it dirty as expected started doing this on many customers cars sevral years back and seen a huge decrease in gearbox repairs and issues there after......

  2. As a general question regarding the is200 handling.

    Tramlining and twitching rear end

    Common issue or not?

Anyone get this even have it when for example on a roundabout normal driving feel rear twitching not following round the front wheels in a normal way.

ALso get it on a straight road uraban type std street road or town road it follows like its on rails if i twitch it out it will feel fair but follows road lines then further on ??

    anyone have this.Tyres? geom?

  3. Hi gang....has been a pleasant 1st week with my Lexus. Sorted the tramlining out....tyres were 15 psi lower than what they should have been....new wipers....and a good valet inside and out.

I checked the coolant and thanks to the lads on here found out where and how to do it. There was nothing in the header tank so filled it back up to level with half a litre of antifreeze....happy days. Checked it this morning and again it's empty so topped up to level....although it didn't take much. Sat there and ran the car to temp (just under half way on gauge) and watched the header tank returning the water etc turned it off and still water in the header tank. Engine has done 125k with nearly full service history and is in pristine condition with no leaks or anything. No goo underneath the oil cap and nothing on the dipstick. Heaters red hot and engine warms up quickly and has stable temp.

Any ideas?? Are IS200's prone to head gaskets....or leaks or anything??

    Thanks in advance

    Adam

i think he means no goo on dipstick as in mixed oil/water sludge not no oil in engine well i hope thats what being written

  4. Even changing gear at 25mph from 4th to 3rd made the car rear try to come to the front lol my first rear wheel drive since my marina forgot they need a bit of concentration lol

Oh yes, the good old Morris Marina, I seem to remember mine was a horrible mustard sort of colour, 1.8 engine and I could have entered myself for the 'Dancing on Ice' series.................memories eh!

Yes! mine was mustard colour as well. I remember changing it for a Cortina Mk2 GXL which seemed like a Rolls Royce compared to the Marina :)

mine was an ital after the mustard marina ha ha

my ital was operline green slx top of the range beast in the snow it was superb (with 4 bags sand in boot

  5. faulty fuel guage ?? sure there is fuel in there seen it before guages shows fuel in tank but tank is empty

also how many keys do you have try another key just to see?

also when it turns ov er is it turning very easy no sounds of compression or turns over flat no firing?

    T belt ok???

  6. OK, I live in a fairly flat area but I haven't had much bother with either the 220d manual or the 250 auto in the snow. No snow tyres either. Perhaps it's because I was brought up on rear wheel drive cars and learnt to drive when they were the norm. For a year in the late 60s I had to commute from Huddersfield to Harrogate in a Wolseley 1500 going up past Yeadon in all weathers including snow a lot thicker than this few inches. Very rarely were people stuck even in some really ancient machines like Ford 100Es and limited road gritting. Why? Because drivers learnt how to control the throttle, how to avoid braking and keep the wheels rolling and how to keep the wheels in line.

In the 80s for my sins we had a Marina Coupe which was a pig of a car but even that never got stuck. A good weight in the boot and it was good as gold, better than my Maxi that used to snowplough if there was more than 6 inches of the white stuff. The old Viva estate was the same. Many a trip over the Humber Bridge in a blizzard in that old thing. The best car of the lot for snow was the Hillman Imp. A sack of sand in the front boot and it would go anywhere.

I'm not criticising folks on here for their opinions on the Lexus but I do think technique matters more than the model of car.

Marina 1980s sand in boot spot on been there done that never failed or let me down at all on mud snow tyres part worns i was able to buy out of my weeks wages just so i could get to work each day LOL old ways are good

  7. I AM HAVING A SIMILAR HEATER PROBLEM

TEMP GAUGE IS OK [READING JUST UNDER HALF WHEN RUNNING] BUT THE AIR IN FLOW IS QUITE WARM BUT NOT REALLY HOT. DONE ALL THE USUAL THINGS LIKE FLUSHING THE HEATER MATRIX, NEW THERMOSTATE .

ANY THING ELSE I CAN TRY??

    Have you had pump checked?

my is200 get to approx 1/3 to 1/2 way depends how far i go and heat temp in car is just as required set

Do you mean temp does not feel hot enough for you ?

  8. does the heater get hot if you park it and rev it to say 2500rpm for 2 mins?

Hoses are they hot or luke warm when at idle??

is there a smell of antifreeze at all outside when you pull up or switch off the car for say 30secs or a minute?.

Check the normal thermostat doubt that as you say its stay same no increase while driving etc....

Would look at water pump flow have had a few toyotas do this and each time the pumps u/s due to it still rotates but fins have worn due to corrosion and only get half the flow through the system no overheat because moving cold air sorts that

also snapped shaft on pump but still goes as two pieces are touching but not at full speed....

    thermostat and then pump because

one controls the temp the other makes it all flow round thats why the question above about hose temp top and bottom after 2 mins at 2500rpm standing still

let me know on the above things happy to help as a well known store says,,, :shifty:

    cc

  9. witter we fitted for many years and the really thing toyota wise.....

Also with the right supplier and the product it will fit.,....

i have seen in the past bars from some suppliers that have been made but not to spec holes not quite in line etc etc this just adds hours of fitting and frustration to the job.

Bumpers most come off and many need to be cut to fit over the bar or some part of it,.,,

I would get the pros to fit it (unless you really want to fit it)and all is guranteed then when you tow should anything become a problem...

PS make sure you get the bar retorqued after the first run of towing (not many people know or get this done) yes they do come loose after time also

Also make sure the tow ball is suitable and of correct size for what you are towing....ball and pin or std ball just make sure the ball size is the same as your trailer or caravan etc ,.....

May appear expensive to have a dealer or specialist company do it eg witter dealer or lexus but in the long term for piece of mind and quality of products have it done this way better than an issue while towing.

  10. Yes I am testament to that :D I am getting a spare key only cut just in case of the boot incident again. Dont want to spend too much cause unfortunately I move abroad in a couple of months (not unfortunately I move, unfortunately I cant take her with me :( ). Looked into taking her over with me but getting her registered etc does not make financial sense :(

should be easy to sell on when the time comes also
