  1. Hi All,

Still loving my Lexus IS250 Auto....but not loving the fuel consumption!!!

I drive in London and do short journeys every other day. Say 5-10 mile each, on occassions I would to the shopping centre trip around 30 miles each way. So mostly short journeys.

I have upgrdaed to K&N filter, used BG44K, and for last two months or so have used AR6200 at every fill, but have not noticed any improvement. This weekend I put in 30l Liters of fuel and the computer said 228 miles distance and 21 MPG, 24 MPG Average Tank. Its now Tuesday and the compueter is saying around 112 miles distance but I have not driven 100 miles in the last few days as I only drove the car after work for again short journeys.

I have four good tyres - 2 x front Dunlop Sport Maxx RT and 2 x rear Continenat Sport3

What am I doing wrong and is there any way I can improve my MPG?

Dont know if this is related but the car feels heavy to move, i.e feels like something holding it slightly when started for first time, but boy does it move once I am at the lights :) I have checked all calipers and nothing is sticking.

I spend around £40 per week for not doing much driving at all - If it carries on like this then sadly I will have to sell my baby which I really dont want to do :(

Any tips please - Thank you

  2. Hi everyone, thank you for all your help!! I changed my first ever disc and pads!!!!

It took me about two hours but next time it should take me about 1.5 hours.

This video is good I found; https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LG3H19LD5O0

I have greased all the pins as advised so fingers crossed.

I put the disc on straight as it came from lexus..is that correct or should I have wiped it with any chemicals? (A friend told me they have a coating) anyways too late now.

Also does anyone know where to buy the brake shims from as I have one missing...and where to buy those flimsy clips.

Thanks you Newbie, Allan and all!!!

Feels great to do the jobs myself and great satisfaction..unbelievable

  3. Allan the mech said the calipers should be fine otherwise I would get heat and it would also be very stiff to drive.

I will receive my disc, pads and grease tomorrow and will be attempting to change, service and bleed my entire brake system.

I really do hope that the calipers are fine.

One questions thou...how comes lexus sell calipers for £70 while there are others on eBay for like £250-£300

  4. ISHAQ ... how did you get on?

Hi Newbie...the weather let me down this weekend.

However I did see that my rear driverside is gone. I had new pads on about 2 months ago. This is possible where the whoop whoop whoop noise is coming from.

I have attached photos. So the plan is now to buy new disc and pads from Lexus Edingburugh eBay. I will then attempt to do everything together...I suspect that the rear caliper must be the problem but making me to believe it's the front drivers side.

  5. I guess about a 2, but depends on experience - brake jobs need care and knowledge!

Now we're all waiting with bated breath.......!

Haha!! I guess I will just start early in the morning and just take my time...also its an excuss not to hit the shopping mall with wifey!! (usual for saturdays)

So all my tools have arrived (wrench, rachet sets), need to get the lube tomorrow (pagid ceratec) and then hope its not raining :driving:

I would say my automotive DIY skills is around 3-4 on a scale of 1-10...remember when I installed the folding mirrors with Exdee. Man he was so calm and relaxed and taking his time step by step...while I just ripped through the door couldnt wait to get it working and rushing..LOL

  6. I will be using CarLube copper grease. Got off eBay http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/170665120477?nav=SEARCH

To be honest I have never done anything like this before but really want to give it a go as I really want to do small bits and possibly service my one car.

So Newbie am I right that to grease the slide pins I only need to remove and access the caliper and no need to remove the carrier.
