  1. Hi I cleaned my MAF sensor two weeks ago and can honestly say it has made a difference in the response I get when accelerating.

I used Halfords Electricial Contact Cleaner £3.99 for a big can and used about a quarter.

Very easy to do...just take the two screws out and then blast the sensor with the cleaner..it comes with a straw so a bit like a jet wash when spraying.

Make sure you dry it well thou when you put it back...I did however disconnect the Battery to let the ECU reset and learn again.

Go ahead and do it it's well worth 30 minutes of your time.

  2. Have u put on car yet?????

    Hi Ahmed & All,

Guess what...vrrooom vrrooommm!!!!! It's was the Battery. Just fitted new one and all working now. Was struggling at first but then second time it started no problems...injectors started singing and dancing.

Man I dropped my Iphone in the engine bay then all hell went loose...thank god the light was on so I was able to see it from under the car, but still took me 1 hour to get it out..LOL

Thank you all for your help....also if anyone needs a Battery then I suggest you buy from the dealer as it was not that expensive to what I have found when researching.

  3. Called another Lexus Dealer to see if they will give me any details.

She said "we have no details on the Battery but can tell you its the correct one for your car - These batteries we sell are OPTI batteries which is not the same or as expensive as then ones that come from the factory but will do the job

I said that I have a part no: 28800-YZZJC from the existing Battery - She said no this will confuse you as they will not be the same as to what we sell.

Wow so difficult to get a Battery I did not know.

Will just pick it up from Lexus anyway and will let know how I get on.

  4. Hi Dave,

The instrument cluster comes on then cuts out half way - so I don't get to see the dials go up and down the MPG and REV counter as normal.

Every time I press the start button I get a fast tapping sound and hear the engine trying to start but cant :(

All my interior lights are on, the sat nav comes on, the doors open.

Lexus have quoted £89 so I might just get it from them....as its a bit too much for me looking at different sizes, terminals, models!!! - Unless someone can suggest a cheaper direct replacement.

    Thank you

  5. Hi Guys

Wow...its quite difficult these days buying a Battery as I have found. Most places have their own label on so you don't know who the manufacturer is.

    I have found a couple ranging between £75 - £100.

Can I just ask a quick question....My current Battery is 70AH but when I search with my registration I get lots of 60AH - Should I not bother what the rating is, or does it make a big difference?

    Thank you

  6. Hi guys thank you for your fast replies, sorry I don't have a voltage checker, just got a taxi back home.

This indicator light you are talking about, I could not see. Is it an actual light or just a level checker. I have the original black Toyota Battery.

Can someone recommend a good Battery please so I can buy tomorrow. I have checked on Euro Car Parts with my reg: S15AKU and it shows two brands i don't recognize.

    Thank you.

  7. Hi guys the last time I drive my car was on Saturday and it's now 4 days later I went into my car to find it not start.

All the lights come on, door lock, windows open, steering unlocks but the car doesn't start.

I get the green start light but when I press it the only thing that happens is fast ticking. I have checked under the bonnet and loosens the negative and positive terminals then put them back on but still no luck.

Can someone pls help!!! What can I try next...is there some sort if fuse I should check..ifso where.

    Thank you

Do I need a new Battery? Please Clancy suggestions.

  8. Hey guys, just to let everyone know I have now changed my stock air filter for K&N and I also managed to clean my MAF sensor with contact cleaner (£4) from Halfords.

Must say the car feels great and very responsive...I also reset the ECU so learning mode now.

I did all this buy myself...LOL...next on to changing the oil.

I already feel proud, but Ashar will PM you for the mechanics number thou as I am very close to Woodford and you never know but need him. Thanks

  9. My car does this...when I press the unlock button and hold for a few seconds the windows open half way.

But as Normski said be careful as I also noticed that when I got to my car one day the windows were half open and realised that every time I opened the car with the remote it was doing this so I held on to the lock button for a few seconds until all the windows were shut.

Locked the car and unlocked and problem solved no windows were opening. This suggests that you can set how much you want the windows to open by holding the unlock button - Then you can reset by holding the lock button for a few seconds.

Maybe this feature is to let air in the car or out before you get in.

Try it and see if it works on your car.....but make sure you reset it back.

  10. I have bought the folding mirror mod but with the weather as it is I haven't had the time to fit it yet. Think it will be worth it though.

Yeah you will love the folding mirror mod also it is quite easy to do if you take your time doing it. There is a thread here somewhere...

Yeah I think the hiring bay is the first of its kind in the UK, Pit Start are open 7 days a week 24 hours a day!!!

  11. Those prices are ridiculous - cant these be done yourself?

I have recently done all this work ...

oil change with filter costs £40 doing yourself with OEM parts (you need a special tool for the filter if you don't have one) and you are doing this knowing what oil is going in (Magnatec 5/30) - include £7 for an engine flush and you are still quids in !

spark plugs £80 - time consuming job but definitely not £550 worth

front brake pads and discs (brembo) £120 doing it yourself - takes approx. half hour per side

rear brake pads £30 doing it yourself - takes approx. 15 mins per side.

Beauty about doing the brakes yourself is that you can check and grease the slide pins which I believe is not included in any service schedule which will save you a lot of money in the long run replacing seized calipers.

I think doing jobs like these yourself gives you an understanding of the car ...

Only problem you have in doing it yourself is that you get your hands dirty.

    Thanks Noo,

I have always wanted to service my car as I believe it will give me great satisfaction knowing no corners have been cut. But afraid if I mess things up especially the brakes, but I guess lots of vids on eBay.

Anyways I have found a place called http://www.pitstartgarage.com they have 20 bays which can be hired for £10 per hour and they supply all the tools free...you just do your thing and pay...if you get stuck then they have mechanics who can help for £50 per hour.

Will defo wait for better weather and will start by an oil change....if I get stuck then will shout Exdee!!! LOL (we did our folding mirror mod together)

  12. Hi All,

I thought I would start this thread so that people can compare prices for the Best Independent Garage for Lexus Servicing in London and other parts of the country.

This will be handy for all if you do not have a service plan with Lexus like me and want to maintain your Lexus, so please recommend any good garages and also prices for regular bits that need changing like oil/filter/pads etc.

I have been recommended the following garage but decided not to use them as this price seemed very high to me although they use Lexus parts...what do you think? and do you know of any other garages?

    Albin B Motors LTD, London SE26 5AZ

    Car: Lexus IS250

Oil Service with Filter = £176.00

Full Service inc Spark plugs (to be changed every 60,000 miles) = £550.00

Replace Front brake pads = £157.90

Replace Rear brake pads = £130.04

  13. Hi Bobby,

    Thank you for your reply.

What I meant was the headlights coming on when you walk up to the car or unlock your doors - Can this be done?

I do have the illumination of the interior lights (LED) and folding mirrors which have the puddle lights (LED), which are great, just wondering if the above can be done like some other cars have.

I think its called see you home light or something

  14. Someone suggested that this happens to their Lexus IS220D. I have seen it on other cars and thought Lexus must have this feature somewhere.

My headlights don't come on when walking up to the car or opening the doors with the remote, can someone help me with this as it would be very handy for this time of the year plus I have new addition to the family so will be perfect if it can de done....I mean press this and less that!!! LOL

    Thank you
