  1. This is how my last stuck caliper showed itself.

A faint tick-squeek, tick-squeak, tick-squeak sound while driving and turning, which goes when you touch the brake pedal.

I didn't know what it was so ignored it. A few months later, there was no pad left because it had worn unevenly because of the stuck caliper and it was just metal on metal grinding during braking.

    Hi CRex,

So what did you do? did you replace discs, pads and calipper?

Was it front only and how much did it cost you, if you dont mind.

    Thank you

  2. Hi Allan, I have the standard discs and standard pads. Really frustrating when the mrs says what that's noise from your car.

Don't know if this is linked but I am now also getting a whoop whoop whoop noise from the drive as if I have some cheap second hand tyres on that do not match the same thread pattern. I don't have any steering problems thou.

Do you think it could be time for new disc and pads or something even thou I still have a bit left on the pads in front and new pads on rear.

  3. Hi all thank you for the fast response. I have taken the car for a drive and can not feel any difference in temperature in the alloys not are they hot.

When I am stationary and I press the brakes I can hear something compressing and when I remove the brake peddle again some compression air noise can be heard...I am assuming this is the pistons or the clippers moving and going back into place.

Will jack it up and inspect the noise again tomorrow but for now going back with a torch to see if anything is stuck in the tyres.

  4. Hi all, (sorry should be is my calippers sticking on the title)

I have an annoying tick tick noise coming from either the drivers side front or rear wheels.

When I apply the breaks the noise stops and when driving away it make a tick tick tick noise an sometimes stops when I give it a thrashing but comes back after breaking and after I release the brakes again.

Also when I steer right the noise is there but the noise is not there when I steer left.

I have had new pads in the rear about two months ago with no problems. I have new Dunlop SportMaxx RT tyres which have only done 500-600 miles.

Any advise will be great, thank you.

  5. Make sure when installing you read the thread as when me and exdee followed the instructions the morror would only fold on double locking by pressing the lock button twice. However you can change this to fold on one lock by changing the wiring.

Don't know if Michel has changed this on the instructions on the manual as the previous manual was for overseas Lexus.

Just read the thread and you will know what I mean. I haven't changed mine yet so only locks on double click.

  6. Hi Ishaq - Looks good

I have looked at these in the past but thought the image would not be that good but that's quite impressive.

Did you buy them from the link that Normski put up from ebay?

How easy were they to install - did you have to take the door cards off?

    thanks

Hi Newbie, yes got them from the same link Normski sent. Took about 7-10 days to arrive.

Very easy to install just pry the old one off pulling from one side to the other, unlcip and clip new one on and push back in place. 30 second job.

Although the projector is very clear and bright it also has SMD LED to provide illumination to surrounding, which is great!!!

Well worth the price...one problem thou my drivers side was not working so guy sending me a new one....good ebayer and fast response.

  7. Think you men 'tacky'....no I don't think they will. My son had some on a Mustang he hired in the USA last year. Everywhere he stopped at night ...people commented on them. Think they're quite funky.

It's certainly a cheaper option. They'll take a while to arrive...maybe 10 days or so. Shout back what you think of them.

I'm curious...already have illuminated scuff plates so that too might be a bit overkill for my car..

Normski, just got the projector welcome light and must admit look pretty cool. I have attached picture.

  8. Thanks Normski for the recommendation - will try and get some more guides up as I get through the jobs on the car.

Ishaq - The easiest way to check if your rear brakes have seized and in all honesty it will be the rear callipers that will more than likely seize on a regular basis due to the slide pins ---- water and dirt gets through the seals on the rubber boots on the pins (unavoidable) and corrodes the pins from inside the slide pin recess on the calliper making them hard to operate properly..

Thanks newbie, this is great info.

Funny reading about the excess heat as the other day when I opened the drivers door after a 30 minute journey there was a lot of heat coming from under the car when I got out. Didn't last that long but was very hot air.

Will check and feel the alloys next time. It's just I don't drive my car everyday and there could be times where i don't drive for 3-4 days straight as I work in Central London so use the Tube.

Also remember when I first took the car to lexus after buying it for a quick service the service manager said to me "make sure you take the car for regular runs as the rear clippers are known to seize" - shame they know this yet don't do anything about it

  9. If it's seized in the position it is in when your foot is off the brake pedal, then you probably won't notice while driving unless you brake hard in which case the car should nose dive as it's just the fronts that are working.

It it's seized in the position is it in when your foot is on the brake pedal, then there should be a burning smell/excessive heat/smoke.

If it's sticking then you may hear a noise when you lift your foot off the brake pedal, as the specific caliper will not be released immediately like the rest.

    Thanks Exdee.

This will help me keep and eye or nose on my calippers.

  10. One issue you need to be aware of is the seizing of Slide Pins on the Brakes.

Make sure you do these regularly......maybe once every 12 months or so.

is200 newbie put up a splendid post about this with pics. Dead easy to follow and so worth doing....it will save you a lot of money in the long run. Go here,

    http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/tutorials/article/223-overhaul-of-front-brake-caliper-and-slide-pins/

I've recommended this goes in the 'How to' area of the forum. Noobie did a really good job on this and I felt there was a danger it would get buried amongst all the other posts in the 250 forum area. It hasn't been approved yet so i'm not sure if it is visible to everyone. I can see it but it says unapproved by it.

You'll find quite a lot of useful info here....worth taking a look.

Normski - That link doesnt work, just tried it

Also how would one know if the calippers are siezed when driving, or is it only when replacing the pads when the mech will be able to tell?

    Thanks

  12. Hi All,

I was planning to buy myself a DA Polisher and some products to polish and detail my Black Lexus IS250, however now deciding on paying someone to do it for me as I am not that confident to do it myself.

Does anyone know of any good detailers in London or surrounding that can do the job for me. My car is in good condition but does have swirl marks. I have received some qoutes but they seem to be very high starting from £400 - £750, is that fair or do you or know anyone can do it for me.

I live in London but can travel for a days work. I have attached some photos of the worst parts, any advise will be great - Thank you

  13. Hi it's a box that has a polish, detailing spray, carnauba wax, mf cloth and two pads. Really easy to apply polish with pads then take off with detailing spray. Apply wax then finish with detailing spray.

I did how ever claybar first so the car feels like glass. Also has taken away light swirl marks but I think it's more like hidden them as every product has a black colour to it. I had to use gloves for the whole process. Anyways lots of vids on YouTube.

Total cost:£25 and a lot of sweat.
