  1. Yes even after 50 miles the car would smoke when stationary.

Okay so that car is only giving me 20mph on the on Board Computer with normal driving, two days ago I noticed the car is not picking up speed and not aggressive as it used to....It revs high with low performance!!!

Car drives okay apart for the above point. No noises except for the injectors music, occasionally there would be load tapping/clicking noise on cold start which get faster as you rev, but this goes away when engine is warm.

Went for an MOT two weeks ago and passed the test.

How can you tell if it is blocked? Do you mean check inside the ends of the exhaust?

Sorry for all the questions but really do appreciate your help before I take it to a garage who will come up with all sorts of things.

    Thank you

  2. Hi Guys,

I have noticed that my IS250 2006 Auto is smoking more at traffic lights than any other car on the road. I have only noticed this happens when I am stationary and the smoke can be seen on the side mirrors and rear view mirror.

I don't know why this is happening and don't know if the weather is to blame. but these are the checks I have done:

    1. Checked Coolant - All OK

    2. Check for sludge on dipstick and oil cap - All OK

    3. Checked for smoke colour - Seems normal but does stay around for a while, even after the engine if off. Seems a bit sweaty when I put my hands on the end of the exhaust - No smell of petrol or coolant.

My driving style: Short city driving

I have read lots of forums but most are in USA and mot much from UK.

Should I worry or not???? :eerrrmm: :eerrrmm: :eerrrmm:

Thank you for all your help

  3. Hi, the sat nav disc is behind the clock panel on the centre console.

You can take it out with two small screw drivers.

You will need to push through the hole on both left and right side. I used one screw driver to push out each side and then just use your fingers.

The panel should then just pop out, hope this helps.

To put it back, just simply push back in place. Don't worry this is a very easy process and you should not brake anything taking it out or putting it back.

  4. Terraclean - They have offered a small discount for LCO see below:

"Hello, Yes this is subtle for nearly all cars, we could make a small discount to £80+VAT from £90 if that's of interest.
Yes we have a nice waiting area and you can have a look at the car running after we have connected the machine.
If this is on interest please give us a call 01908 231170.

  5. Hi Marc, you are right there is a few cracking noise that comes from the Multimedia Sat Nav system.

Some people have sorted this out by removing the whole unit (lots of vids on YouTube) and putting padding inside. Some have also removed the centre speaker and put padding there too. This is very easy as you can take the speaker cover off with flat head screwdriver and the speaker inside is held my two small screws.

I will at some point do this and will then confirm if that resolves the cracking from the multimedia unit.

  6. Ok, I'm going to order the 6mm and also some 12mm non-adhesive stuff from here:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-NEOPRENE-PLAIN-SPONGE-FOAM-RUBBER-SHEET-VARIOUS-SHEET-SIZES-THICKNESSES-/261338185781?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item3cd8f84035

I can then choose from both.

Roughly how big were the three pieces you used?

Marc, I would say the same length as your middle finger and width as two fingers. Fold it in half so you get double the thickness and then squeeze it between the dash

Length 8cm Width 3cm - Fold the length in half sticky side to sticky side so you get to 4cm.

Hope this helps....So other people are also getting cracking noise from behind the satnav unit and for this its a complete removal and then padding inside of all wires and lose bits. Search this on forums and you will find loads of threads to read.

  7. Thanks to Carl, who kindly sent me some foam pads my dash rattle has gone for good.

The pads were a type of rubber/silicone/gel blend and pressure resistant so once in between the dash and windscreen it expands. I have searched on ebay and found some that you can try if you experience the same.

On ebay search Neoprene sponge rubber - here is a link too - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2MM-0R-6MM-THICK-ADHESIVE-BACKED-BLACK-NEOPRENE-SPONGE-RUBBER-SHEET-75mm-x-500mm-/261340187889?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item3cd916ccf1

Very cheap and you only need three small bits folded in half so the sticky side stick to its self, then use a screwdriver and place two by ach pillar and one in the centre part of the dash and windscreen.

    Hope this helps. :phone:

Ishaq, thank you so much for posting this! I bought my IS250 less than a week ago and I've noticed the cracking already, but couldn't find a definitive solution anywhere until today.

I've got some questions if that's OK:

That eBay auction lists two thickness: 2mm and 6mm. Which do you think is most like the foam you used?

How far in do you push the pieces?

Any chance you have any left over? Even a tiny piece? Then I could compare it to the eBay stuff and post back here whether it's the same.

Marc, order the 6mm - should cost you only £2.50 or you can order the 5mm from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121215824485?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D121215824485%26_rdc%3D1 - this should cost you £2.25

Either way when you fold it over so both sticky sides stick to each other, you will then need to push it in enough so its out of site but not too far where you lose it inside the dash. Don't worry you will know when to stop.

Sorry I don't have any left as Carl, was kind enough to send me his leftovers - and man I am so happy!!!

Go for it, and just buy....you will love the smoothness of the Lexus IS with no noise....my one was creeky noise and really made we want to sell the car :megaangry:

  8. My 3 year old daughter even noticed the dash crack. The car is under warranty but it doesnt annoy me enough for the hassle of booking it in to fix it.

I would say get it checked, as mine was not that noticeable, but my god after a few months it was crazy and seemed like a crap banger.

See if Lexus would do it under warranty, as it is a known issue and they do have a solution "better new clips and padding"

  10. I got some form from Lexus, it's black in colour and expands once fitted in place. It's quite a soft feel to it. I place three pieces, all folded in half to double its thickness, one either side by A- pillars between dash and screen and one centrally.

I have had no rattles return since doing this.

I think part of the key is using the right type of foam odd as that may seem.

    Carl

    Thanks Carl,

So did you purchase that foam from Lexus?A nice man from Lexus gave it to me.

If you pm'd me your address I'd be happy to send you some to try as I have a bit left over. You don't need much.

Because it is softer it allows for expansion and contraction. A hard rubber will probably do very little as soon as the temperatures start changing.

    Carl

    Wow thanks Carl!!

    PM sent.

    Thank you for your help.

  11. Ishaq - serious - this might work:

Go to B&Q and buy some foam 15mm pipe lagging.

Cut it lengthways in half and half again (i.e. like a quadrant when viewed at profile).

Now take a piece of this and push it between the screen and dash. If you want, tie a bit of string to it so that you can pull it out again/adjust it. This may resolve your problems.

My IS220d was probably one of the first in the UK where a dealer tried to fix it - before the Lexus diagnosis - and this did work!! It was fine for 2.5 years -and I sold the car like that, but the noises had gone.

You try this at your own risk - lol - I accept no responsibility for anything that might go wrong with it!!!

Thank you SA....sounds like a good idea, I shall try this over the weekend.

    At my own risk...LOL

Currently I have cheap rubber door stoppers cut in half and wedged in!!!

Friend: Whats that shoved in your dash/windscreen

    Me: oh...they are sensors

Friend: Wow....I have always wanted a Lexus man!!!

    Me: :whistling::whistling::whistling: :whistling: -

    Thanks for all your help!!

I had my dash clips changed and it rattled in a different place afterwards.

  13. Just got a letter back from Lexus - and they are saying it is a wear and tear problem, although Lexus dealer did say it is a known problem with the old clips:

    £280 or contibued rattle!!!

    Dear Mr Ahmed

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to contact us via the Lexus blog and also
    by letter.

I was sorry to hear of the problems you have reported and have taken this
opportunity to investigate your concerns. I have spoken to Lexus Sidcup who
have advised me that they have no record of your vehicle. Whilst we are unable
to offer comment on your contact with them I can only assume that an informal
discussion may have taken place over the telephone.

I note that you have investigated your concern on the internet. Unfortunately, the internet is an open forum
for discussion and may be subjective. As such we cannot comment as to whether
the issues described relate to your particular case and so look to handle cases
    individually

Turning to the concern at hand; Lexus offers a 3 years or 60,000 miles, which ever
comes sooner, manufacturer warranty. It is inevitable that at some point in a
vehicle life repairs over and above wear tear will be required and I regret to
advise that in your case it would appear this to be the case.

You have not advised where your vehicle was purchased from however had this been
from a Lexus Centre it would have benefited from a years unlimited mileage
warranty. Regretfully if the car was bought privately or from an independent garage
due to age of the vehicle we cannot offer financial assistance towards the
repair cost. If you have purchased the car from an independent garage you may
wish to check with them if they have provided you with any warranty.

I am sorry we are unable to respond in a more positive manner and I realise our
response will come as a further disappointment to you.

    Yours sincerely

  14. Hi, does anyone know how to remove the centre armrest as I have managed to take the screws off the rear ashtray, middle and below the Sat Nav screws but the whole things still seems to be very tight around the sides of the passenger and driver knee air bag!!!. I am just about able to lift the armrest but not enough for me to get to the AUX port.

    Any help will be appriciated!!!

Any videos or diagrams will be helpful so that I can take the whole console off.

    Thank you

  15. Hey Matt, Welcome to the club!!!

Thats a nice car and great colour too.

You can start off by converting your interior lighting to LED, which is really cheap from eBay - here is the link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260863230811?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D260863230811%26_rdc%3D1

You will find videos on this forum on how to get them all changed but fairly easy and take 10-15 minutes to do. You should also consider the LED to the side mirror puddle lamps as this will help in the dark nights.

Another mod you shoud consider doing is the PO-40 kit which will fold your side mirrors automaticly when you lock the doors and unfold when you unlock the car - Read this for more info: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260863230811?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D260863230811%26_rdc%3D1

    Is your car an automatic?

  16. Just had Lexus Sidcup confirm that this is a known problem to them however they will charge £280 to fix it. They requested that I take the car to them to have it fixed and whilst I am there they will contact Lexus UK on my behalf to see if they will pay the bill.

I sent Lexus UK a letter today to complain - Lets see what they say!!!!

I have shoved rubber door stoppers around the dash and windscreen to stop the noise!!!! Thanks Lexus for creating such a Luxury Car
