  1. If you check your own V5c and the keeper part you will see that an eleven digit number is required to sorn and the Keeper has a twelve digit number - hence the rejection that I've copied and pasted.

You can't tax the vehicle where it is alredy seen as taxed -which I've also copied and pasted.

I can only file a V62 next week.

The seller has not returned my call whee I left a message to confirm he posted the V5c.  Frankly I'd be really surpised if he hadn't  as he had six months tax to get back.

You don't need to wait for the V5C - in fact it is the law that you either tax it or put it on SORN on the day you buy the car with the 12 digit number on the green slip.

No, I don't believe you can do either.  If you check the status of the Car tax situation and it says "taxed until" you can't put it on Sorn and you can't tax it, unless you are on the V5c.

You can’t Sorn the vehicle as you need the 11 digit number from the V5c which is not on the New Keeper Detail slip.  See below for SORN  No V11 received.

    Choose when it starts

    Immediately

Use the 11-digit number on your vehicle log book (V5C) to take the vehicle off the road immediately.

On the first day of next month

Use the 16-digit number on your vehicle tax reminder letter (V11) to take the vehicle off the road from the first day of next month. You can only use this number once.

    Taxing a vehicle

    Unable to use service

Unfortunately you cannot use this service as the V5C/2 reference number you have used is invalid.

You should have received a V5C vehicle registration certificate (log book) in your name for the vehicle, please use the reference number from this to renew your vehicle tax

I'll wait until next week, as the Battery has died and I need get it replaced and then apply using the form V62.

A bit cheesed off with DVLA and the Car, if I'm honest.  Good job I've got the Corolla  as a standby but that will be on its way once I've got this Car sorted, assuming I don't find any other problems.  My Study is like a Parts Department at the moment! Refurbeed Grandstand wheels should be back later today or tomorrow, but only as Rims, bar one tyred for the boot.

  3. Your paint code is on the VIN Plate.  You can find the Toyota Paint code data online. I imagine that the Boot has been re-sprayed if the Bonnet and Roof are the same colour.  Lacquer lifting in the past, perhaps.

Don't trust eBay sellers of paint they claim will match. It won't.  Here's a reliable seller who you can touch base with and discuss as they may produce a varient of the original paint to make allowance for fading.  Autopaint (St Helens)

01744 818102.  They produced paint for my Car which has the code 4K9 which is Toyota Chromatic Beige.  Bit like Smoke Silver to look at.

  4. I've been waiting since the 30th January 2021 for the V5c in my name as new owner.  The Car is still recorded as taxed until October 2021 so the seller also hasn't had the advantage of a tax refund.

Checking the option Forms it seems to me that I'd need pay £25 as if I'd lost the original V5c.  I don't fancy having the small green slip sent to DVLA by the Post Office as I recall the fact that I discovered after (was it twelve years??) that DVLA had cancelled my  Driving Licence instead of that of my Brother which I submitted on his death in a Motor accident. Only discovered that becuase went to hire a Van and they said I didn't have a Driving licence.   Dougie of UKIP sorted for me!

So, although I could give the car its first drive thinking that any Police Car would find the car recorded as having tax, I just don't care for the hastle if such bravery is found out.

The good news is that the Boys turned up and took away the Grandstand Wheels and replaced with the ones I've had in my hall for weeks.  The five will be refurbished and I'll almost certainly sell four of them and keep the fifth 18 inch as a spare in my Boot. I now have 17 inch rims but the two rim and tyre size match to .03 % I quite like the look of the new Rims. Tidy, anyway.

New Aero wiper blades arrived and as I have one fog light broken glass, I've ordered a pair of Yellow Glass fog lamps with bulbs from USA to replace.

Good job I'm a patient Man although perhaps more like a Patient, these days!

  5. Thanks for all your thoughts.  I'd be happy with  cost of £500 to bring it back but I fear it will be more than double or triple that,  given it will need cross by Ferry and then another 160 miles to my home.

I wouldn't give a thought to registering it in France. Franch Bureaocracy is renowned to drive a person mad.

I could advertise if for sale on Lebencoin and have other things I'd like to get rid of.  The Car was able to drive into the Garage so can turn a corner but I'd like to fix the problem before transportation.  Its only been idle for seven mnoths and I disconnected the Battery negative (hope the Alarm hasn't gone off and infuriated the neighbourhood) I've replaced a lot on that Car to get it into a reliable(????) condition and would like it back.  This GS300 I've yet to drive and the people going to take away the wheels for refurbing and replacing failed to appear today. Have since said will be tomorrow. Will it be a keeper? Well I've already bought Cam Belt, Cam parts, Serpentine Belt, new Water pump and new bottom Ball joints so will get it so far and then decide.

I may know someone who can and does collect Cars and take them to the south of France but it all depends on the French allowing us to visit etc, etc.  The Breakdown Cover was with First 4 Recovery and runs until the 18th July 2021.  If I knew I would be able to go over there I'd ask if they have any Transporter currently that can pick up the vehicle, perhaps paying an extra premium. They basically passed me to a French organisation who didn't even recognise that the Road I broke down on had not been a National Highway for ten years having been by-passed! This is what you have to deal with!  My French is poor.

Is it not possible to fix it in france and drive it home then? Or just too expensive?

That would have been my intention Mark, but by the time I got the part from Japan,  France had gone into lockdown and the extension of the MOT expired late January. No MOT means no tax, invalid insurance,  means arrest and imprisonment if stopped by the Gendarmes.  So, few alternatives. Couldn't have happened at a worse time afer six or so years of trips to the Charente  without incident.  The day it happened we had seen Estate Agents and were to put the property on the market owing to my health issues.  Had to postpone and now- who knows.

Just to close-off this post and inform anyone who may encounter the same issue, I have now resolved it.

Turns out it's an easy DIY job. Retract the door aperture surround seal to expose the headlining edge, remove the passenger grab handle and sunshade mount. It is then possible to get a hand into the location where the fixed and flexible pipes meet to rejoin.

The GS300 fights on to live another day!

    Hello Michael,

You don't actually say what you found as the fault?  I'd be grateful to hear what the fault actually was? Don't want to mess with the headliner if its not necessry.  So was it a Disconnected Y pipe  / blocked Y pipe or what ??  Thanks - Stuart

With the amount of time it's been you'll probably want to drain all the fluids before attempting to drive it back. Good luck anyway. We were hoping to go to france this year as my dad has a holiday cottage in brittany but I'm not very hopeful at this point.

No, things look bleak. The Car will need be trailered back to the UK or sold in France. Often see Polish drivers with trailers on the Ferries and may be able to do a good deal but too many imponderables to even consider, right now.

Car is much further away in S.W France so five hundred miles to travel from Calais. Won't be cheap!

Not entirely sure about all that but I have a spare amp that I got for my GS300. Never used it in the end but you're welcome to try it for the cost of the postage. Mine was 2001 iirc.

Thanks Rich, thats good of you.

I may come back to you on this but I can't see myself stripping out the existing until a couple of months so don't hold it if you want rid of it.  Until I've driven this Car I won't know if its going to be a "keeper".  Quite a few disppointing things but hope to drive it after next Tuesday when the wheel guys pick up the Grandstands and replace with what's in my Hall way.

New lower Ball jojints have arrived from Rock today. Guessing they will need be replaced or want the reassurance.  Oil on the cap and around it on the Power Steering made me look inside and not a pretty colour. Could even be engine oil- Doh!  Will get the old Turkey Baster out and start to remove after the first drive.

  10. I've been looking at Amayana to see what the cost is of a new Radio Amplifier - purely for interest sake and also because I've seen the attached connecter Cable which may allow me to put in my Sony at some time and bypass the Amp..

For my Vin number the data provides for two different parts between 1998 and 2001 and I am unsure how to identify which of the parts the car would require if I needed to purchase.

86280-30361 is for 08/1998 to 07/2000  whereas 86280-30362 is for 07/2000 to 07/2001.    I checked a link online teling how to read Japanese Vin plates however it didn't answer the question as to how to tell the exact month of manufacture.

Now a second line on my Vin Plate is as follow  E11*98/14*0078.  Is this telling me that it was made the 14th week of 1998?

At $1151 if I were purchasing a new Radio Amp I'd want to be certain I bought the correct one.   The Car is a 2000 Registration in UK though I've yet to receive my V5c -  must be five weeks since purchase. What date will that show me? The imported date, or date of manufacture?

So,  accuracy seems important and for this chepy part which caught my eye after seeing Vids of disembowelling the wiring system from Amplifier

  11. Change of mind on the Magazine - photo's of new ones on eBay.com show different case shape.  The good news is, that the Cassette player accepts and plays a continous Tape with my mobile phone and music.  The bad news is that I seem to have to turn the volume knob forever just to get some sound. Is this an indication of a failed Amplifier?

Also, out of interest I don't see how Speakers, front/back/left/right/ fade etc, happens on this Radio. Don't have a Booklet. How is it done?

  12. Thanks Richard, I've seen it mentioned that BMW Magazines are the same as Pioneer and it could be that Lexus is just a re-branded Pioneer unit?  May give it a try as seen one for a fiver if I haven't missed it.  Don't want to spend £25 and find out tht the CD changer is knackered!  Looked at installing an alternative Sony GT450U but one vid on vutube makes it look like a nightmare although I thought is was just a case of the right interface couple of plugs. Leave everything else in situ,  alone?

  13. Old topic but one which interests me. I just can't fathom why someone would take the Magazine out of the CD Changer and not put it back in after taking out their discs. Well, when you buy from Clacton you can expect issue after issue.

Is the Lexus Unit basically a Pioneer unit as mentioned somewhere in this thread?  If so, I'll be able to buy one cheaper than £25.  Most annoying.

Battery charged and Radio working. Wheels to go to be re-refurbed next week and will run with replacements 'til decide which to live with.  Four Rims only to be returned and fifth with Tyre for my spare.  May sell the refurbed four or Tyre up, sometime.

Will be able to drive the Car first time next week. Been frustrating but that's Lexus - well my experience - pay peanuts get Monkeys!

  14. Where would I be without this wonderful Forum and its illustrious Members?

Thought I'd bu**ered the Car after messing with a poor Battery in tandem. Turned over, but wouldn't start.  Immobiliser light flickering.  Sat in car for more than eight mins with ignition on and light still didn't stop flickering, however when switched back to lock and then turned on - away she fired into life.  What a relief!

  15. Watched this, but yet to see if there is any truth or only applies to USA variant.

    https://youtu.be/4766Kib7uoU

Two weeks in and yet to drive the Car.  Spare tyre didn't hold air and front tyre flat.  Managed to unscrew the Alan bolt on the plate that covers the Wheel nuts and it was very difficult Must have locktited the bolt.   Rear wouldn't budge and too bally cold to keep trying yesterday, so will have to wait. Once I know the bolts will all remove I'm having the Grandstand Wheels taken away and refurbed whilst the replacements are substituted outside my front door.   Then sell or re-fit?

  16. More advice needed.

Tried to unlock the Boot with the key as the keyfob "unlock" rubber is no longer exposed but sunken.  All hell broke loose with Car siren and flashing lights, much I'm sure to the annoyance of the neighbours and me having a meltdown. Somehow managed to stop the commotion pressing the "close" button on the fob as the "unlock" didn't seem to do it.

When I have unlocked the Car and opened a door, the car remains unlocked possibly until I decide to lock it.  Is it the only way to switch off the system?

The car is boxed in and nothing of value inside, so could leave unlocked until a solution is found.

The keyfob has a rubber mat that seems to be stuck to the RF transmitter part. I bought a replacement blank key with a new Rubber mat.  Can I cut off the original Mat and replace? or will that cause an issue with the keyfob no longer working.   Anyone done this?

Don't have a Manual but seem to recall security switch mentioned in LS400 manual (also in b**ly France) .  If I can cut out the lights from flashing this would lower my anxiety level.  They don't on my LS.

    Thanks

    Stuart,

I had a 98 model. The radio was coded and it lost its code one dark night in the wilds of Warwickshire when the battery died and had to be replaced without the benefit of keeping the power to the radio.

    Hello John

I was thinking of replacing the Radio as I have a brand new Sony head unit with USB and Aux. However having watched most of this video on the subject I may not be brave enough to take that step.  Pity because I so need the Aux.  Not the same using one of those things that operates by FM frequency via the Cigar lighter.
