  1. No I am afraid it can't - it checks blocks which consist of 2 modules each. A note :- voltage does not equal capacity
  2. Did you find someone for this at all? I t would be handy to know
  3. RX's have a better quality hybrid battery pack
  4. Me too, i had a friend cut & bend up a steel "nappy" & weld it on an impressive job certainly wont go in that spot again, did look at s/s but it is so risky with good & very bad reviews of all th places that do it, Plus they use deflector boxes not absorption boxes which makes the exhaust louder - fine if you like that sort of thing I guess..
  5. You're not wrong infact I have one in my workshop (although i very much doubt this is the actual source of the check hybrid/vsc/ etc etc) What i think you have there are two quite separate things which are actually unrelated, as yours is in for a recall for the inverter then whilst they are doing the modification to the inverter you are entitled to your coutesy car absolutely. I think you will find that at 2008 the Hybrid Battery itself is starting to get weak which is totally unrelated (i suspect) to the recall. There are several temperature sensors & an air flow sensor inside the battery compartment however it is extremely rare for one of these to fail & would be instantly identifiable by the fault codes they generate. There are also around 15 -20 voltage sensing wires which have been known to snap (again quite rare but I have seen it twice on Prius's) again would be very obvious from the diagnostic data list. There are a few tips i could give but i think you will have to PM me for those. If i can help i will. Richard
  6. Hi Carl this link is to me http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-GS-450-HYBRID-BATTERY-REPAIR-FULLY-RECONDITIONED-GUARANTEED-NO-VAT-/291612430966?hash=item43e5749276:g:dp4AAOSw5ZBWQF-2
  7. Hello Chaps Just to help de mystify (as much as i can) I hope this reply is acceptable & within the rules, the process i adopt is a diagnostic under load to reveal any weakening cell modules GS battery consists of what is called "battery blocks" which are linked by copper busbars - a battery block consists of two modules, each module has 6 cells within its construction each cell is 1.2Volts so the maths stack up as follows, GS 450h has 20 battery blocks which = 40 modules = 240cells @ 1.2Volts = 288 Volts which is easily deadly i am afraid so if your not electrically qualified to HV standards & technically - mechanically minded please please do not risk it. Weakened modules are replaced by modules I have reconditioned, links are removed & cleaned where required & re-installed then the whole pack is balanced & put through my process which restores as much capacity as is possible ( I researched & developed this process myself over several years ) I guarantee my work too 1yr 10,000miles Last things to add are it's also my hobby & I love my GS
  8. Hi I have to remain within the rules here, I can help with your problem & have made recent developments that address your long term concerns with your GS, maybe you can PM me
  9. The post was meant to be of assistance to those with older hybrids & those out of warranty, as long as owners bare in mind what Colin pointed out about insurance. I have plenty of experience in this field.
  10. I have put together a couple of tips which I hope will prove usefull if you have a hybrid & are off on your Holidays. First of all & most importantly disconnect your 12 Volt accessory battery there then can be no possibility of an excessive drain on your hybrid battery, Some models may not have a manual key so if yours is one of those I would suggest securing the car in a locked garage first. When you come back from Hols reconnect your accessory battery securely remembering to observe correct polarity. Operate each individual electric window by it's own switch on it's own door (make sure to take them all the way down & up this resets the cluster at the drivers door. Once you have started the car turn the steering wheel full lock to each side a couple of times this helps to re centre the steering. As I think of other tips I will post them - happy holidays you lucky people!
  11. Warmth most definitely affects hybrid battery packs as it does any battery really, heat is a big killer, cold makes them Lazy. I have seen posts on other models where the unsuspecting owners believe they have "extra speakers" as the vent covers often unfortunately do have that kind of appearance. Your car actually has 3 separate cooling fans that run together to cool the battery pack internals, quite powerful centrifugal ones too. :) A very good thing.
  12. It is actually 650ish Volts independently tested, the 6KV I read was a typo, although if effective insulation could be developed KVs actually makes quite a bit of sense with the appropriate safeguards of course
  13. Hi there It is indeed A and B The wild jumping between low & high is called recalibrating it's the battery ecu trying to make sense of the information its getting both voltage & temperature wise. It is a good thing that the cooling fan is running - it's doing it's job. Its ok to keep driving for a bit but not for too long - it needs looking at within a few weeks. Regards Richard
  14. Ah right, I must have mis-read the figure somewhere, I knew it was boosted up. Anyway thanks for the confirmation.
  15. My information was that the battery output voltage on the GS was boosted up to around 6KV before reaching the MG is that not the case?
  16. Many Thanks I will certainly do my best. Richard
  17. I will try, firstly please confirm the exact vehicle model or give me the reg number also can you be more specific when does the shuddering occur exactly?
  18. Hello to all If anyone needs advice/assistance with their hybrid I am here & happy to help if i can.
  19. It's rare in my experience that corrosion actually causes major problems although of course it can happen' toyota/lexus placed absorbent material under terminals in an effort to absorb leaking electrolyte which is a powerful hydroxide which in turn causes corrosion as its nasty stuff. Although corrosion can be a contributor it is much more common to see failed cell modules. The Lexus Hybrids draw a fair bit more power from the battery packs than Toyota's do which accounts for the shorter warranty period. It is rather strange that warranties in both cases seem to run out more or less exactly at the time most packs are likely to start failing?
  20. Hi there, The Diagnostic tool I use is Toyota Techstream chaps - its definitely the best & allows me to capture live data including cell unit voltages & internal resistances. You need a laptop that is running the Windows XP 32 bit O/S then if you look on ebay you need to buy the mini VCI & software - if you are PC Savvy you wont have any problems getting it all to work, Yes I replaced a cell module & rebalanced & reconditioned the entire pack together with my special system i designed & built myself. I am happy to help Richard
