  1. Found this poor LS on ebay and could not help but cringe. Probably a nice car (considering the miles as well) if put back to original, however those exhausts and that 'thing' in the back seats has ruined it. Thrashed and drifted a few times I am sure. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WHITE-LEXUS-LS400-SLAMMED-VIP-DRIFT-REAL-NICE-GENUINE-CAR-/161871123080?hash=item25b0455288:g:sO0AAOSwHnFVx5xO
  2. My brother who stays in California has just bought a Lexus LX470. I said 'whats that' obviously. Turns out the Toyota Amazon which was sold here in the UK and in the US was altered with Lexus badges and styling for the US market. Honestly, looks pretty smart to me and it got me thinking. Why not bring a big LX over here to compete with Range Rovers etc? Anyway, heres a pic:
  3. Oh, one more thing that has got me thinking. I assume that because the mileage part of the speed is digital then the mileage would appear higher as it will still be showing Km's and miles? Can this be put back safely or is it best leaving the whole thing untouched? Thanks again
  4. Hello folks, just moved over to the RX section of the site from the LS side (somehow this seems weird saying that). Anyway, I have my eye on a 1999 RX300 import which has only done 85k and is going for a decent price by the looks of it. The first question that came to mind was the speedo. It looks like there are KPH markings but no MPH markings from the pictures. Can this be rectified? and at a relatively low cost? I noticed the fog light is there and it has been registered officially now in the UK but this did get me thinking about the speedo (dont like reading KPH figures as I have no idea what any KPH figure is in MPH and vice versa). Any help on any potential problems with these cars as well would help and what to look for. I do plan on going to see it this weekend. Many thanks D.T.
  5. Dont worry about not buying one a few years ago... just think how much you have saved buying it now! Graphics actually look quite good in that shade against the cream. I actually thought of getting some for mine.
  6. Sorry if this has been shared before but thought it might be good for new owners or potential owners to see.
  7. Your paint colour may be Regency Green metallic. Not heard of a jolt going from p into d before. How many miles has the car done? Seat height should be decent for most 6ft plus guys but if your 7ft then I would see that being an issue perhaps. The best upgrade may be a newer set of wheels such as the DHP 17" model which does look more modern and fills out the arches. Enjoy the car.
  8. Well, not my cup of tea on an LS but thought it was worth sharing none the less... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lexus-LS400-dual-side-exit-custom-exhaust-/331684932515?hash=item4d39f66ba3:g:MzEAAOSw~bFWI8B8
  9. I ran winter tyres on a Saab of mine a few years back. Best decision ever. Loved them enough to use them throughout the summer as the grip from them was so good. Sadly, they didnt last as long.
  10. Just been to Tesco. Get to checkout. 'Did you hear the snow is on the way?' asks the lady at the till. 'No, I did not' I replied. Get to kiosk to get the weekly lotto and smokes. 'Its all change for next week?/!' she said. 'Whats that' I replied. 'Snow's on the way' she said. Get to petrol station, filled up the tank and before I was even at the desk I heard the guy behind the counter say 'snow shovel' when talking to the woman in front. Dam. Should have used the pay at pump. Here we go again.
  11. Thats five days past now and still no call, e-mail, smoke signal, nothing.
  12. Yes thats the size Fred. It will look a lot better once there fitted on as I feel cars with a small number plate on the back and a lot of room sometimes look a little odd. I think you have a great car Fred and at that mileage it should serve you well. I do remember the car being for sale on ebay and it was rather tempting. All the best.
  13. Congrats on your new purchase. Looks very smart from what I can see. I don't mean to burst your bubble but it looks like you have a Mk3 model. Original plate size is a 6.5" rear. Most ebay plate sellers can do this for you for around £25 a set. Enjoy your new car.
  14. And what would that be? If this is an 'image' problem based on a name and a photograph on a forum then there assumptions are going to cost them money. Not everyone walks into a prestige dealership wearing a suit you know. Dangerous to judge a book based on its cover. I remember a great story some years ago. I was visiting a client of mine called Alan, who was a second hand car dealer. He usually buys and sells average used cars. Anyway, one day he was doing the gardening on a very rare day off and realised that he needed more compost. He got into his old pick up, drove to B&Q and got the goods. While in the car park there was a brand new Mercedes CL500. He had never seen the car before. As chances would have it, the owner walked to the car while Alan was looking at it. After an hour later, Alan was in love (with the car that is). Now, Alan has a few quid. He has never been one for going for the 'look at me' persona. So, he got in his old rusty pickup, still in his gardening gear, and drove to the MB dealer. Walked inside, looked around, spotted the showroom CL in the corner and went over to it. 5 minutes passed. Nothing. 15 minutes passed. No one even said hello. Then, as he was walking round the car a salesman said 'what do you want'. 'What do you want?' Alan said. 'Hello for one, can I HELP you for seconds' and three 'no you bloody can not'. Walked out and went home. Turns out, Alan buys cars from this particular dealers group (trade ins). If it was not for the admin lady upstairs noticing this all unfold from her office, and then telling the sales manager that one of the groups best trade buyers has just walked out of the dealership in an angry mood because the uptight salesman who thinks hes better than Alan (because hes wearing a suit and has some MB business cards) then Alan would have bought a £75k car elsewhere. Needless to say the salesman no longer works for the group and furthermore, this just shows you that if you base your assumptions on looks alone without interacting and dealing with the person directly then you are barking up the wrong tree.
  15. Well, I was looking at trying the NX model as I have an interest in getting something a little higher off the ground. I have driven an RX hybrid (2007 model) which was not bad and was not great (steering seemed to be pulling on this one). Anyway, I left it and just kept things the way they are. However, the problem with the LS is I don't want to use it every day although I would love to. I actually thought about getting another one, preferably a mk4 and making it a LPG. I have never had LPG or even wanted to consider it, but then after reading a few articles and seeing one on the club site that was converted makes me think that it might be a realistic option. I do need something to general mileage and achieve at least 30-35mpg as my driving is mostly done in town and city centres.
  16. The Carlisle branch is my local centre and I am sure I selected them on the list when going through the options.
  17. It should not be like this. If I want sub standard service I don't have to look far. Lexus should be special in every sense of the word. No LS demonstrators, not surprised either. But it should not be this way. They should be doing things differently like they did with the LS in the beginning. If it was not for the LS I own now I very much doubt Lexus would be at the top of my car list. They should be so good at what they do that you should be left in no doubt that Lexus is something special. From the car to the service. From the courtesy letter every so often to the whole sales experience. Even there coffee should be special. And the sad thing is, it was special. Not anymore. All this junk about amazing in motion. More like shocking in a standstill.
  18. I have received an email through the club for a 24 hour test drive on either a CT, IS, GS or NX. First of all, a little annoyed there is no LS option - after all, we are all LS drivers. Secondly, its been three days since I applied. Would of thought a call within 24 hours would be appropriate. You see, its this small matter that lets Lexus down nowadays. If you want to be the best, you have to act accordingly and in this day and age if your not fast your last. I actually get a better service from my local Kia dealership than I do Lexus. Maybe its just me.
  19. Thats very helpful to know. I have started carrying a disposable camera (dont have a modern phone) just in case so I can photograph the incident and the person. It is quite alarming how many uninsured drivers there are on the road.
  20. did you see the picture in the back window? tbh, thats worth every penny. A friend of mine needed a headlight and a few other bits - he spent nearly £600 on parts that could easily of been supplied via this car. The wheels are worth a £100 to anyone alone.
  21. Just seen this earlier tonight on Quest. Good looking old bus but not much for Ed to fix this time round.
  22. I laughed when I found this on my old LS. I dont think another car manufacturer has ever had such a device. I discovered the coin tray to the right of the wheel months later one day when I was sitting in traffic. The laugh was, there was £4 in it.
