  1. I plan to keep my IS250 for a further 18/24 months and like to browse the auto trader website for new car ideas. I have to say I've been very impressed with my first Lexus and have looked at the CT200h as a possible 'upgrade' but I believe the ride can be quite firm? Obviously, performance wise it's a different beast to the 250 but then you get the better MPG. Also considering a Quashqai/CRV for practicality. I'd be interested to know what forum members may have looked at to replace their IS. I know there's a lot of love for these cars on here and rightly so, but nothing lasts forever!
  2. I was in the same boat. Weighed up the warranty and Lexus servicing costs and ' rolled the dice'. I've replaced a wheel bearing, discs and pads at a cost of approx £250 in eight months of ownership. Just passed its MOT today with no advisories. I must admit the exhaust thing is a concern and I plan to keep the car for a further 18 months in the hope I won't have any big repair bills. Shame because I doubt I'll own a better car for the foreseeable.
  3. Last year I snagged a 2009, 58 plate with 80k for 5k. Despite being well equipped and lovely to drive I'm not sure there's a lot of interest in these cars. The seller said he'd listed it at 6k but had no enquiries. If it had BMW/Audi badge and aesthetics they'd go for a lot more.
  4. I used to get nods, flash of lights etc in my DC2 Integra. Never had it in any other car, mostly because they've been *******!
  5. Just a heads up if anyone needs any parts. Just ordered Brembo front discs for £69 after discount.
  6. Drivers side(o/s). I gave it a waggle this morning holding it at 3/9 o'clock and could hear a bit of clunking. Going off YouTube that's a sign bearing has failed? I'm really the most amateur of mechanics so could be wrong. Might get the local garage to confirm before I order any parts but would appreciate the part number if possible. Would you know if it's safe to drive in the meantime? It doesn't apppear to drive any different, just the noise
  7. I thought as much but was double checking. I got the rubber mallet advice from your good self a few months ago. I'm guessing some gentle tapping might break any rust holding the slide pins? Any general advice when I give it another go? How long would you expect to try with the mallet before giving in?
  8. I know my rear caliper is seized so attempting to loosen up with rubber mallet. My question is when attempting removal of wheel and then caliper do you leave the parking break on or off? I'm presuming it's left on but wanted to double check before I get busy with the mallet
  9. Humming sound. Gradually gets louder as speed increases. Can't really hear it until over 30/40 mph.
  10. The noise appears at 30mph plus and increases with speed. Lexus quote was part only. I'm having a good look at the offending wheel tomorrow so can't be sure it's not the bearing. I'm not getting warm wheel, drag or pulling to one side on breaking so ruling out seized calliper for now. I've never had a bearing go on me before. Car is 2009 on 84k
  11. Just called Lexus Chester, £300! I've had a look on eBay and there's a seller (japeurocarparts) with them for £179. Advert says genuine Lexus part. What do you reckon? Also, from what I've researched it's not a job for an amateur mechanic, needs specialist tool? Any idea ball park cost for labour at independent garage? Thanks in advance
  12. I was at Lexus Chester a month ago and sat in the new RX. Looks lovely but the cabin was pretty uninspiring for a premium brand.
  13. After my car for four months the only real gripe I've got is the lack of cup holders in the front of the car! It could probably do with a bit more 'grunt' as well but it does ok on that front, I suppose. So, what don't YOU like about your 250?
  14. I just received an email from Lexus offering 24 months extended warranty on IS models for £895. Mines a 58 plate so under the 10yr/140k limit. Is it even worth considering? What sort of parts would be exempt apart from pads, discs etc? I'm guessing the exhaust wouldn't be covered either?
  15. Good to know. Anyone familiar with the patent situation? If and when it runs out in assuming europarts etc will be producing pattern parts?
  16. From what I can see my system looks ok at the moment, just want to know what options are there if the worst happens. I would much rather have a custom mild steel system if anything dos go wrong but I just assumed all custom exhausts would be stainless.
  17. I could just about swallow £400 for the back box. Any idea what a custom stainless full system would cost? I'm guessing around £800?
  18. I know there's quite a few topics on this but I'd like to know how many members have had to replace any part of the exhaust system. I was aware of the costs before I purchased my car and it made me think long and hard whether to buy. A work colleague had to replace the back box on his 2006 220d at a cost of £400 (I think). Apparently Lexus told him there's a 12 year patent on the parts? I'm not sure if that's correct but if it is, the patent would run out 2017 if the cars went in to production in 2005. Basically I'm hoping someone is going to tell me if my exhaust goes after 2017 I'm not going to have to fork out 2.7k or go down the custom stainless route.
