  1. Dang, if i'd hung on til the new gs series came out, i could've had yours. Was after one in that metallic green colour with grey leather, but you don't see them often, ah well, got a decent one now anyway, so i'm happy :D P.S. i think my dad must have a heavy foot, come to think of it, not sure if it wasn't 15 mpg he got as the lowest
  2. I thought i read somewhere if your going down the turbo route you could only safely use up to 7 psi, otherwise you'd have to change the head gasket, pistons, rings, valves etc, to take the extra power, is this right?
  3. Mr Chieveley, not quite right, the bulb out orange indicator is for the rear (edit: - tail light) bulbs, the little 12V 5W wedge type, not the brake lamp bulbs, the red exclaimation mark will come on and stay on if a brake light bulb has gone, i know, i've put a blown bulb in and found out. I think Colin and Mudsz must be on the correct lines about it being brake fluid, just been out and had a look, it was half way between low and high, dunno what the tolerance of the sensor is, not very possibly, since mine only seems to come on under hard braking and going down a slope, otherwise it stays off. Have topped it up to the high mark and i'll have to see if it makes a difference when i go out in a bit to get some fuel. Will let you know if it's sorted out the fault
  4. Mudsz, get one you know you want to :D My dad has a gs430 sport, goes like :tsktsk: off a shovel so to speak, but they aren't the most fuel efficient cars in the world, my dad usually averages 13 mpg to 21 mpg on a good run, and thats with moderate driving, also as i understand it the fuel tanks are in fact smaller than the MK1 GS300 Sport, since they moved it below the rear seats. They are gorgeous cars to drive and the traction and vehicle stability control are well worth having, without them that lexus is just a wheelspinning monster, the interior is nicer aswell, bit more room in the back for passengers, better than a 1.8T audi I think the new GS300 sport MK2 would be a nice car to have with the e-shift buttons on the steering wheel, so you can use it as a semi automatic instead, they don't come on the gs430 sports. I'd wait until the MK3 GS comes out in march/april time, as prices for MK2's are going to drop, although so are the MK1's, although they couldn't get much lower, loads of equipment for relatively low money already
  5. If your staying with the Lexus brand, the GS300 or GS430 is a fairly big car, if your not too bothered about the size try either one, but because the mk2 has a smaller fuel tank than the mark one and the rate my dads gs430 drinks fuel, you may want to steer clear else you'll be filling it up all the time, i think the best my dad's got on average is 21 mpg, and the worst about 13 mpg, and the latter isn't flying round everywhere. Would definately go for a sport model no matter if its a GS or IS, the uprated suspension makes it feel less wollowy, gives it better handling. My brothers got an IS300 sport, he loves it to bits, sadly only come as an automatic, but they are quick and fun to drive, but it may remind you of your old car everytime you get in it, might bring back memories, thats the only downside i can really see. Dunno if anyone else has noticed, but either my brother has a heavy right foot or the traction control doesn't actually help very much as the wheelspin quite freely when you put your foot down whilst turning out of a road. I suggest you test drive a couple of models the GS sports, and an IS300 sport, and see which you like
  6. Isn't there more important things to argue over guys, your both expressing your opinions, whether right or wrong, not worth getting in an arguement over, and yes i do thing clarkson is wrong most of the time, but he makes me laugh and provides entertainment, i bet most people only watch the show to see the cars, and how quick they are, not really intrested in the complete specs of them
  7. Nice idea besty, could dent it and claim off the council for the speed bumps round here, worth a shot, but might not work. Colin how much is a gold membership, might be worth joining if i'm likely to get a discount at Inchcape Lexus in Nottingham
  8. Yeah Lexus's are lovely cars, easy to drive, well refined, and quiet, yet quick enough when you feel you've got extra fuel to burn and want to have a blast round. But i have to say i prefer the MK1 GS300's to the MK2 models, don't like the square backend of the MK2 or the front, the MK1 is rounded, has flush door handles and imo, the exterior is nicer. Although of course I wouldn't mind a mk2 gs300 should i ever have the chance of finding a low mileage one like the one i have in three or four years time
  9. Your not wrong mudzs, spoken to lexus earlier, and its appears they want £342 + vat for a new one, up front, working out at £401 inc vat, there must be somewhere else to get hold of these particular alloys. I'm even weighing up the option of buying an after market set of alloys as its only gonna be around the same price as buying two of those 10" rims. Trouble is I prefer these 10" wide sport rims, really do look good on the car
  10. Right guys and gals, i've looked at the alloy and tyre again, and it looks like i'm gonna have to buy a new 10" alloy from somewhere... Wehn i took the alloy off i rolled it round and checked the tyre, couldn't see anything wrong again, turned it round to look at the inside where the tyre meets the rim, and what do you know there were some bubbles in the rain water on the tyre, looked closely and theres a tiny hairline crack. I'm assuming it would be a very bad idea to drive with the alloy like this, so the 8.5" spare is back on. Does anyone know where i can get a new 10" alloy from other than lexus themselves. I've seen somewhere that the alloys are made by borbet. Also is there any sort of garuantee against the alloys cracking over their lifetime? I know they buckle, but other than this tiny crack, the alloy is perfect, no buckling, and hardly any corrosion, really annoying because the one on the other side has quite severe corrosion. again any help would be much appreciated Paul
  11. Yeah i have checked the tyre off the car, and looked all over it, i can't see anything indicating a leak/puncture. Also i understand there can be fluctuations in tyre pressures due to temperatures, but all the other tyres have stayed roughly the same, all between 32-33psi, you wouldn't expect a new tyre to lose 9 psi in 4 days
  12. Sorry if this has been covered before, have tried searching, I've got a problem with one of my rear 10" wide alloys on my GS300 sport. A couple of days after i bought it i noticed the tyre looked a little flat and took an age to pump back up to 32PSI, when I finished pumping it up i removed the alloy to check for buckling, and found the tyre sidewall was bulging, so got a new tyre fitted at lexus nottingham. I checked all the pressures in the tyres on the car, and found them to be around 32 or a little more except my new tyre which was at 31 PSI. This sunday I checked the pressure in the same tyre and it was 23 PSI, so i've pumped it back up to 32 psi and checked it again today, and its down to 31 psi again. I've checked the tyre, and its got no nails, or punctures i can see, and seems to be fitted correctly, the valve itself doesn't appear to be leaking, as i put a drop of water over the valve pin and it didn't blow up into a bubble. Is it possible that these alloys amongst corroding and buckling, can actually crack aswell, have you got any suggestions as to how i can find out where its leaking, don't think i've got a bucket or trough big enough to put my alloy in Any help would be much appreciated, i'll take it back to lexus sometime this week when i get a chance
  13. Now thats strange, two lexus' being stolen from the same car park on the same day, man thats not good. Looks awfully like they were stolen to order, might be worth everyone who knows you and your car to keep a look out for it anyway, it might still have been dumped somewhere, did you say out of the four who jumped you, only one drove off in the car?
  14. "Confirmation that fat, balding, flatulent Clarkson" As in the first post, how can clarkson compete with that extra height and weight, even that blind guy would possibly be quicker :duh:
  15. Man that sucks, I've only just got my Lexus, and I live in Derby, but i'm gonna be more vigilant when i'm out and about on my own. I doubt they stole it to order, so I hope it turns up, having just been dumped, or the cops find it driving around, at least you ok though, you could've come off worse. The worst thing is what the insurance company will think of it, most usually don't like paying out if your cars been stolen with the keys. I hope it all gets sorted out, I know i'd be gutted if mine was stolen, even more so if that happened
  16. I swapped my bulbs earlier, just to be on the safe side, couldn't see anything wrong with the old ones though, but i did notice whilst they were out, if i pressed the brake pedal the warning indicator on the dash came on and stayed on, whereas last night when i was driving it was coming on for about 4 seconds or so, then going off, is there any chance it could be something else?
  17. Nice to bring up an old thread, saves me creating a new one... Anyway, my lexus wiper blades, not arms have gone silver where the paint has come off, and the rubber wipers are crap, they leave trails of water and squeek, does anyone know how much the new blades are from lexus, or is it just worth buying some bosch ones from halfrauds?
  18. Yep thats me, decided to get a bit of luxary instead of the prelude, it was a great sporty car to thrash round in, but on long journeys not really the most suitable car. I did find this lexus GS300 sport with low mileage at a cheap price, so thought i'd treat myself, I have still got the prelude, but I really can't keep hold of it, need the money back from it's sale. Its nice to see another member of Hondarevolutions who also has a lexus B)
  19. LOL, slightly further a field i went for my gs300 sport, but i too took the pilgrimage up the m1 from london to derby in my car the other week, shame it wasn't the same day would've had a convoy of lexus' going up the m1, my dads and mine included :D
  20. Yeah i thought it might be a dicky light bulb filament, as it only does it occasionally, i'll whip the light clusters off tomorrow and inspect the bulbs, might just swap them to be perfectly sure they are the cause. Thanks again guys much appreciated, i'll let you know if it turns out to be anything else. Paul
  21. Just got my lexus back from a lexus dealer, and they replaced the rear passenger side tyre, and put the wheel back on and it certainly felt like more than 76 ft-lbs of torque on those nuts, i had to get my 30" torque wrench out to undo them the wrench in the boot and my strength couldn't undo them. Do lexus even bother using torque wrenches, might ask to see them put my alloy back on when they find out why my new tyre is going flat
  22. Thanks for the replies guys, yeah Andy et all, they checked the play with the engine running the car clear of the ramp and moving the wheels as you suggested and said they couldn't find any play in the rack or ball joints, but since then i noticed the tire was flat, i dare say not even 12 psi in it, so pumped it up, but the tyre had been so flat it'd damaged the sidewall and a bulge was evident when it was pumped back to 32 psi. Subsequently it cost me £250.80 from lexus to fit me a new 275/35 ZR18 tyre, now learnt my lesson, and its actually made the car handle better at high speed. Although its lost 9 psi in the 4 days its been on, so i'll be going back to lexus for them to check it over. I'm pretty sure its not due to temperature changes affecting pressure or anything like that as i checked all the pressures were 32 psi when they put the new tyre on, then checked them all today, each one except that one had 32 in whilst that one had 23 in.
  23. Hi all, just a quick question, whilst driving tonight and the other day the exclaimation light came on, on my dash when i applied the brakes, and stayed on a little while after i released the pedal then went off again, only done it about 3 times in a week, any idea's what this could be, hoping its nothing to expensive to fix, the manual suggests theres either a stop light out, or the brake fluids low. I've checked the brake fluid and its just under the maximum mark, so could it be a dodgy brake light bulb, the brakes pads, or the brake fluid sensor all being a bit dicky or shot?
  24. Can you not buy the alloys from lexus anymore, i thought the TTE rims were still available, yikes, gonna have to keep my eye out for a pair of 10" rears on here if i can't get them from lexus.
  25. Thanks eMJay, its a nice car, not been looked after quite aswell as i'd thought, but everything looks good on it, doesn't appear to have ever been in an accident, has a few stone chips (not been touched up) starting to go rusty, gonna try to sort them when its a clear day, need a couple of spares for it, and two new gas struts for the boot, but other than that its in A1 condition. The alloys are in good condition for the originals, one or two have started showing signs of corrosion under the lacqer, the worst one is the passenger side rear, which has some major kerbing, so i'll replace this one when i get chance, not really that important at the moment. Just happy to be the proud owner of a GS300 sport, great cars, and amazingly cheap these days :D
