  1. I had the tracking done at Kwikfit.. I drove away and the steering wheel was a quarter turn out! Went back, complained, they had another go. Just as bad! He said 'come back tomorrow as the other guy is better'. Great! I'm very busy these days and have only just gone back (to a different branch) and they've done it again - steering wheel is still slightly off centre unfortunately, but it drives much better and a lot of the vibration has gone. There's still a small amount that I'd like to eliminate - I'll fit new tyres soon and take it from there. Still a worrying amount of red on the sheet - are these parts not adjustable? I presume red means it's not where it should be. The relentless pursuit of 20 year old, 120k mile perfection...
  2. Is it easy to do a gearbox fluid change on a 98 ls400? Had an 03 Jaguar xj8 and it was a nightmare job to do at home!
  3. Because I thought it could be felt only through the steering wheel but can clearly be felt through the chassis, opening up more possibilities. If I'm honest, I posted this thread as I thought there may be an, "Oh yeah, that'll be the doohickey rams - they all do it and it's an easy fix".... I'm presuming it's a mix of old tyres and old bushes so will work through as and when funding allows. Thanks guys
  4. So I'm a passenger in it on the motorway now and I can feel the vibration - still potentially tyres?
  5. Yeah, you're right. I've just shelled out a fortune for cambelt, waterpump, exhaust repair, and the wheel alignment - about a grand all in! My wallet's taken too heavy a beating to buy tyres, too! I'll have to wait till it's recovered a little....
  6. I did indeed. I hoped the tracking and alignment would help - it didn't. It's only slight but as it drives so well it annoys me and detracts from its comfort 😏 Could be the case.. they have enough tread left just not an awful lot. Be a shame to spend a fortune before I need to on new tyres and still have a vibration!
  7. I think the thread is a little confusing as there are 2 cars being spoken about.. To clarify: Mine is a '98 LS400 It has had wheels balanced recently, but the tyres are quite old and worn. It only happens at speed (55-75ish) High speed braking had a brake pedal judder. Round town it's fine.
  8. No it drives beautifully around town. It doesn't pull left or right - is just at increasing speeds the slight wobble begins. May be unrelated - but I noticed, yesterday, after I was forced to brake with some force on the motorway - that there was a judder from the brakes as I approached the slip road to exit. That's never happened before, and I don't seem to get an undulating pedal coming to a stop. Simply very hot brakes from the hard braking at speed?
  9. Hi guys - recently had all 4 wheels balanced and just had 4 wheel laser alignment but there's still a slight wheel wobble between 55 and 75ish mph. Any thoughts?
  10. WOT means wide open throttle. The colder the air the better. Colder air is denser, denser air = possibility of more power. Although this mod is more about surface area and lack of restriction than cold air - it gets cold air anyway. The EGR valve is for emission control - nothing to do with getting an engine 'up to temp'. Engines need cold air. Yes the filter will need changing more often. I'd imagine you won't be able to redline your engine anyway - the VVTi system has probably never been exercised in its life so it probably won't make it that far up the rev counter! Make sure you clean the cobwebs out from under your accelerator pedal and continue to enjoy your LS 🖒 😉 Different strokes for different folks.
  11. Well, I did it anyway! Nice and easy, took about 15 minutes start to finish, including knocking up a heat shield. It sounds wonderful now, but on light acceleration you wouldn't know there's a difference. On WOT it sounds spectacular!
  12. That's a shame. It's a pair of rear sections they've had the boxes cut out and straight pipe welded in. I don't have the facilities to do that at the mo. Is the shape the same? It'll be easier for me to adapt the flanges than de box my pipes as long as the routing is the same
  13. Are the systems the same throughout the ls400 range? I can potentially buy a pair of backboxes from a K reg - will they bolt on to my S reg system? Thanks
  14. Has anyone done this to their LS to release some of the V8 intake noise? Any pros/cons you'd care to list? Pitfalls to avoid? Fancy having a go tomorrow
  15. Haha - i wish! Might be able to get my bumper painted then 😂 It's a castle up the road - good for pics!
  16. It was the excess, but then a couple more mm to be sure. So a few of the threads in the end.
  17. Thanks guys, the the fronts took a while as I needed to trim the studs a little. The rears will go straight on, so once they land I'll fit then in the evening. It'll be today or tomorrow.
  18. Cheers, mate - can't wait for the spacers to land for the rear ones!
  19. Yeah I think they must've been out of balance. I think it needs tracking too as the inner shoulders had worn down a lot. I'll get it done soon.
