  1. Recently it's been getting more difficult to screw my fuel cap back on. Realised yesterday that it's because the whole filler neck has raised to the point where the cap touches the body. Common problem? Common fix?
  2. I bought mine BECAUSE i had kids 😂 I'd have a Mustang or a Supra or something if I didn't. Wife has an e46 touring to lob big stuff in
  3. With coilovers costing north of 800 quid I've been searching for ages for a more cost effective way of lowering.. I've just stumbled across this site: https://www.tarmacsportz.co.uk/brands/tanabe/tanabe-lexus-ls400-95-00-6-3-3-0kg-mm-df210-springs.html Anyone used them before? Still expensive but a lot cheaper than the alternative!
  4. Yeah take the battery out and fully charge it - if your fuses are OK and you didn't smell any nasty plasticky burning smells I'd imagine it just needs a good old reset. On my old x350 Jag you could put the two cables (not connected to the battery IN ANY WAY!) together to drain all of the capacitors in the car for a full reset. I don't know for sure but I'd imagine it'd do the same on a 430?
  5. Thank-you! Any special tricks to fitting or relatively standard?
  6. Sorry for the rubbish post - does anyone know what brake bulb I need to buy for my 98 ls400? Thanks
  7. They're 18s and the suspension is stock. I fitted different tyres so that the rolling radius was the same as the original 16s. Ride quality is still wonderful - obviously not quite as forgiving over very rough roads, but generally speaking it's not a noticeable difference. I did need to fit hubcentric spacers and went for a trusted quality make (Japspeed) to ensure it's safe. Set me back more doing it like that but I don't want to compromise safety for the sake of a few quid! I had to trim a few mm from the front studs to get them to fit.
  8. Welcome! The forum is friendly and knowledgeable and the cars are phenomenal! Mine is a 98 that looks just like yours. So far I've fitted 18s to it, de-boxed the exhaust and modded the airfilter. I'd love to lower it a little but coilovers are the only option and are about 750 quid - more than I can spare!
  9. DO NOT GO TO KWIKFIT FOR WHEEL ALIGNMENT WITH YOUR LS400!! Ahem.. sorry for shouting - they are absolutely useless. I'll go into detail as to why when I have the time.
  10. Where would I see the arch corrosion? As in - how do I check? The arch appears fine fob the outside
  11. Does a new boot seal stop it leaking? It stinks in my ls400 at the mo as the boot is so bloody damp
  12. I think you need to supercharge it with the blower sticking out of the bonnet. Just cut a rough hole with your angle grinder and it'll be reet. While you're at it, cut two slots either side of the blower hole and turn your exhaust manifolds upside down. The next logical step, of course, would be to weld the diff up. Be sure to put decent oil in to make sure it can cope with extra power and torque from your 'charger. That'll do you for a bit, but you may get a bit bored of the auto shifting so a good move to consider would be a manual Supra gearbox. Don't forget to remove your interior (battery disconnected first so the airbags don't go off). You're only going to want the driver's seat in, realistically. That's a lot of weight saved. Swapping the glass to perspex will also offer a good weight saving. There'll be no point having a stereo as the upturned manifolds will give you enough enjoyment for the lobes. Any questions, just ask.
  13. Hi guys. Obviously - the handbrake light comes on with the handbrake..and it also comes on when the pads are low. But is it used for anything else? Fluid level? Blown brake bulbs? Mine seemed to come on due to the rear pads running low. I changed them but it's still on. When I get in the car it's either on already or it comes on the instant I press the brake pedal. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  14. Need to get chassis/suspension arms/bushes checked for wear and do a possible re-alignment after kwikfit ruined the handling on my LS! Want a trusted company that know what they're looking at
  15. I had a thread about a vibration/shake but I thought I'd start a new one, as it seems to be intermittent which must surely be specific to something in particular being worn? I've now had the tracking done properly, and I'm making sure the tyre pressures are OK. Granted- they're probably due a swap but I'd they were causing the issue, surely it wouldn't be intermittent? It seems the steering is now less precise, too. It starts at around 55mph and continues up to 80ish. Sometimes it's so pronounced that you can see my trouser legs shaking! Other times, it's barely noticeable. This is on the same 12 mile stretch of motorway i use every day. I'll be honest, it's spoiling my Lexus experience. Having just spent 800 quid on a water pump and cambelt I'm loathe to give up and sell it, yet I don't want to chuck money at maybes! Could it be a worn rack? It's a generally well looked after 126k 98 LS400.
  16. I'd happily pay the extra for more protection, but it's more that I've read it may not be a good idea to use it in older engines and I'm just not sure what to believe. So many conflicting opinions.
  17. Fully synthetic? Or part? Does anyone know the capacity? Thanks again
  18. I've asked on a Facebook group and was told 5/w30 but thought I'd ask here, too. 126k mile 1998 LS400. I worry 5w30 is a bit thin for an engine of this age?
  19. 120 quid 'Geo care' apparently. 4 wheel alignment up to 8 times over the year. Done it 3 bloody times this month now and it's still wrong. Not sure what to do. This is the second branch that's fecked it up.
