Thanks for your reply - I've checked a few ET calculators and done a bit of maths and I think they will stick out 9mm more and push in at the back 3mm more than the original 16s. That suggests to me that they should fit. I've checked out 18" tyres with a similar rolling radius to the standard ones and I currently think that 245 45 18s should do the trick. What 18" tyres do others run?

They said that they'd need to remove them to do it and that's where most of the labour costs are.. I presume my cats are OK inside? I have a check engine/loss of power issue but it only happens at high revs and isn't all the time. If I weld them will they be removable? Is there any way of checking if they're ok before welding them up? ECU won't talk to My OBD2 scanner so I can't pull any codes :(

My cats are both blowing at the flanges really badly - an exhaust place just quoted me a small fortune to replace them. He seemed to think this was very common with ls400s but gave me no alternatives but to chop off the flanges and weld new ones on, or buy new cats. Both options were very expensive. Is there a cheaper option out there?

Odd one this - I have just under a quarter of a tank left, I turned the engine off and jumped out only to hear something odd; there was a fairly loud gurgling coming from the fuel flap. I opened the flap and started to unscrew the cap and got the familiar hiss from a low tank - although it was a fairly major hiss! What might this be? Not the usual hisa when opening the cap buto the mega gurgling just turning the engine off...

What wheels are you looking at? I like my 16s but they need refurbishing. I may do that, but at 60 quid a corner it's making me consider other wheels. Had to be budget, sadly, so I'm looking for the deepest dish 17s/18s for the least moolah. Any suggestions? A lot of the wheels I see from other Lexus' are very flat and boring.

My first car (after passing my test; had quite a few prior!) was a 1979 Mazda B1800 pickup that'd beenot hot-rodded. Foot wide back tyres and a lifted rear end. It actually had a removable roof too - convertible pickup for the win! Got a Capri after that, and still own it 16 years later! It has nearly 300bhp now, so it's changed a little ;)

The fault on my car appears to be clearing up. It went from doing barely any miles to 30 miles a day commuting with me. I'm almost convinced it's down to the VVT having never been exercised. Oh - and I don't want to bring fuel for the fire; but some of us chose the LS400 due to its legendary quad-cam V8, and enjoy stretching it's legs once in a while (private test track, of course)....I'll be modifying the exhaust a little in mine, nothing too obtrusive, but I'd like to hear those 8 cylinders a bit more :)

Basically, if the wheel speed sensors notice that one or both of the rear wheels are rotating quicker than the fronts, then the ECU will cut the power temporarily. If your car begins to oversteer, the VSC will notice the wheels are spinning too quickly and will cut the power to bring the car back in line. The light went off on those straight line acceleration videos as the LS400 is so torquey that it can spin the back tyres a little on hard acceleration. You can turn it off if you're quite happy with the rear wheels going quicker than the fronts on occasion ;)

Well the more I use it, the better it gets. Seems to rev to 5800 before choking now. A few times it's not done it at all. I'm thinking it's had limited use and never been pushed. Current theory is the VVTi is a bit 'sticky' and giving it some use is freeing it up. I'm going to give it a couple of oil changes to try and clean out any crud that could be contributing to it.

Will do - cheers mate. I've just bought an air filter for it, as a 'probably could do with one anyway and it might fix the problem - measure. Absolutely loving driving this big beast around. I've come from a Lincoln Town Car, an 03 XJ8 and a 01 XJR... and the Lexus feels like an amalgamation of them all. It's without a doubt more comfy than the XJ8 - it's not as quick as the XJR - it's as comfy as the Lincoln, but actually handles.... it's awesome.

w this one, nearly contacted him myself. Went for a different one on ebay and paypalled the guy his deposit using my credit card. That was just in case things went Pete Tong - seemed the best thing to do. Fella was great and actually delivered the car to my door for free! Loving ownership so far. -
Thanks for the advice fellas - and can i just say I'm really impressed how many of you have offered help to a newbie to the forum. I'm a member on a ridiculous amount of forums, as I've had a ridiculous amount of cars, and this seems to be a good one! Anyway, absolutely loving my LS400 so far, seems to be a truly wonderful machine!
