  1. Well I might have bought your car if I'd known about it in advance, but I do like the harrier. How have those Avons lasted? I used them on my passat and found them to be pretty good.
  2. I noticed today that the tyres on my new car are a bit old. They all have plenty of tread but at least a couple are from 2013 so will need replacing before the end of the year. What tyres do people recommend for these cars? Mine takes 225/65/17. Michelin Latitude Sport 3 look like a good bet, decent ratings on tyreleader and not crazy expensive. Recommendations welcome. BTW I'm liking the harrier so far. It's smooth and comfy, terribly underpowered and a lot more like driving a boat than a car but it's a cozy place to be when travelling. Real world fuel mileage calculated from fill-ups is pretty decent too - I'm seeing 26-30mpg depending on how much I put my foot down, and there's really not much reason to because flooring it doesn't really do anything except make it louder. I do miss cruise control and parking sensors, quite tempted to retrofit them but it's so much money :S £200 for sensors and £500 for cruise.. and I only really need cruise for a couple of days a year when we do the run to brittany and back. Not sure I can justify that kind of money for that.
  3. I thought the Harrier with the 2.4L was chain-driven, is this correct or does it have a cam belt?
  4. Could someone tell me what the maintenance schedule is for an RX-300? My car is actually a Harrier (2.4L engine) but didn't come with a service book or schedule so I don't know when I should be doing things. The dealer gave it what he called a "full service" before the sale but I didn't get a copy of the invoice for it yet so could mean anything, knowing dealers I'd be surprised if it was anything more than oil and a new air filter. Thanks
  5. It’s already booked in for a drain/refill and new filter, i only noticed a jolt when i’d popped it into neutral at the lights and then tried to pop it back into D and pull away quickly, the revs went up before it had engaged and caused a jolt. I guess if I just leave it in D at lights i won’t run into that again
  6. Thanks, was worried something might be wrong but it engages in 1 second so i’m guessing that’s normal. Just need to be careful at lights if i’ve put it in neutral not to accelerate before it’s back in gear
  7. I’ve never owned an automatic before so i’m not sure what’s normal. In the Lexus if I select D, wait a second for it to start crawling forward then accelerate, all is fine. However if I accelerate before it’s engaged there’s a clonk as it engages, is that anything to worry about or should I just be careful not to accelerate until it’s engaged? Thanks
  8. Booked in for next week. Doesn't really matter how much it is I guess it's got to be done!
  9. Alright thanks, I'll call a toyota specialist and see what they recommend
  10. Thanks! According to my owners manual the transmission takes 3.5L - did you use 10L because it was changed three times to get all the old fluid out?
  11. Cool thanks, got it. It shows “6.5 L/k”, does that mean litres per 100km? If so i’m doing well at 36mpg :D
  12. I just bought a 2006 harrier with no service history so planning to change the transmission fluid and filter asap. How much should I expect to pay? Is it a big job?
  13. Is there an mpg display? I pressed the button to the left of the steering wheel but all I got was trip mileage.. it cycled through three mileage-related things and that was it. It's a harrier import if that makes any difference.
  14. Why is it half english half japanese? lol. that's weird. Pretty sure mine has very few optional extras, no cruise, it has the moon roof but as far as I can tell that's it. Seats are manual which I prefer as it's less stuff to brake, no air suspension, 2wd. the less bells and whistles the better in my opinion as there's less to go wrong.
  15. Awesome thanks man! 31mpg is more than I'd hoped for, at that kind of mileage it may not even be worth bothering with LPG. The official figure for my V8 beemer that I had a few years ago was 26mpg and if I drove it very gently on the motorway and avoided braking I could get it up to 35mpg.
  16. 60k miles and 5 years and he was still happy, so I guess they can't be too bad.
  17. PM sent, probably went in your spam folder as gmail doesn't like me much!
  18. They come up on the list of UKLPG Approved autogas installers.. no idea if that means anything substantial.
  19. Thanks. One thing I find odd about them is that the guy told me on the phone that they are "not VAT registered yet" but he didn't explain why and I didn't ask. This means they work out much cheaper than the competition, but seems very unusual as if they'd been going for as long as they seem to be they must have reached the turnover threshold where VAT registration is mandatory. The company (Battersea Autogas ltd) has been incorporated for several years but has been marked as doormant at companies house for most of that time, up until the present day. All seems a bit strange to me but I guess there could be an innocent explanation like they've decided to be a sole trader rather than a ltd. I can't think of any good reasons to do that though, especially when you've got a ltd set up.
  20. I'm about to take ownership of an RX-300, a japanese import (Harrier) with the 2.4L 4-cylinder engine. In theory it should be more economical than the V6 but if it proves too thirsty I'm considering going the LPG route. Has anyone on here used Battersea Autogas? They quoted significantly less than another quote I got and I can't find any negative words about them online but given the wide variance in quality of LPG installations I want to be careful to go with a reputable supplier. Their quote was for the BRC system which they recommended over Prins because apparently it has a much better ECU.
