  1. My thoughts exactly... And we're the lucky ones... There are people out there driving cars with only one reversing light by design. Problem for people approaching from the wrong side in a supermarket carpark, for example. Also no backup if your one r-light fails.
  2. I might consider new locking wheel nuts. These ones in Amazon are reasonably priced and chrome plated... https://www.amazon.co.uk/BUTZI-12x1-50-Chrome-Theft-Locking/dp/B01M6V8AGT I'll take one of the existing ones off, and compare the fitting
  3. I'm not quite sure why the locking nuts aren't plated in the first place. And I agree, the rusty look of the brake calipers leaves a lot to be desired!
  4. Having recently had my alloys refurbished, I noticed a few things that now stood out like site thumbs. The tyres really need black lacquer, but also the locking wheel nuts are horrible and the centre trims don't match. Anyway, I bought some wheel nut covers on the internet, just for the ones that go on the locking nuts. I don't know if I'll use the rest of the set yet (for the regular nuts), they are, after all, just cheap plastic. Here's before and after pictures.
  5. That's a fair comment... I didn't realise the current NX was quite so elderly.
  6. Just looked it up... About 5-10 grand less expensive... And the RAV4 has good cargo capacity to boot (sorry, couldn't resist that one)
  7. That's interesting. Makes you wonder what Toyota/Lexus are doing making the RAV4 seem a better prospect than an NX (and presumably a fair bit cheaper, too). Although I've always had a bit of a 'problem' with the RAV4... Ever since one careered into my front garden.
  8. That's what you would expect, though, improvements over time. But that's not what always happens. I used to have a thing for the big Citroen's, and owned 2 CX saloons with about 8 years between them. The latter one was really really nice, but I always found myself thinking "why did they get rid of that?" The answer, in hindsight, was probably marketing... They had clearly decided that satisfying the somewhat quirky tastes of the traditional fans wasn't going to shift units en mass. The strategy didn't really work, though. Lexus marketing does seem to be selling cars at the moment, so they are getting something right. I guess I really can't judge unless I get to drive a current RX.
  9. It's odd that there can be so much difference... When you look at the cars side on, it looks like the NX is basically an RX with the back bit chopped off... But then again there's no reason why the car must have the same suspension, upholstery or drivetrain just because it appears that there is some commonality in the body or chassis. The NX I drove (ignoring the uncomfortable seats) basically felt like driving a good Mondeo... So maybe that's where it's market is.
  10. That makes sense, although I understood average mileage to be 12000pa... I might be out of date on that, but 10,000 does seem a little stingey. Still worth the extra expense after every 10000 miles IMVHO
  11. I've always considered them to be vehicles that provide a utility for carrying your sports equipment!
  12. I don't really see the point for a sporty set up in a "tall" car. It's like buying a Rosé wine: not robust like a red and not smooth like a white. (You can probably tell than I'm not a wine expert).
  13. Quite, I "imagined" as an indication that I didn't KNOW. "Imagine" does not imply a conclusion, so I wasn't jumping to one.
  14. So that would be all models, then. Well done for finding that... I did numerous searches, and kept coming back with various ages of vehicle, never the 15 years.
  15. Yes, my RX is exceptionally comfortable. Maybe I just have to stick with the older ones. Or maybe like hats that grow softer and more comfortable with age.
  16. One of my biggest gripes with the NX was how hard the ride was. I've also been known to complain about the torque steering on the RX... which didn't seem a problem on the new NX. Guess I want my cake and get to eat it.
  17. I'm not sure which vehicles are covered... I would imagine it's all Lexus hybrids, but stranger things have happened. I'm not sure what happens if you have the check done and the hybrid system is found to be already dicky, unless the check was previously done within 12 months... Do they cover it? I don't know.
  18. To be fair (to me), I've not had the RX for long, so I'm not really used to that either!
  19. The service chap at Lexus Guildford said that 15 year update to Lexus policy came in in January... So I guess there was a formal announcement in some form
  20. This is a little bit of a review and a whinge about the NX... So rather off topic... But I do have a valid question. I had an NX (300h) as a courtesy car recently, and was immediately struck by the gadgets. However, the ride is not nearly as comfortable as my RX, and the screen is rather trickier to use... It's mounted a good distance away, and interaction is via a touchpad and cursor arrangement which is seriously fiddly... Setting up the satnav was even harder than on my RX. The buttons and controls are also small and cluttered. This is all in comparison to my RX, which is 12 years old. So, the question is... Is this an issue with the model, or with the new Lexus designs, or with the trim level? Any opinions anyone? I would ask to test drive a new RX for comparison, but since I have no intention of spending £60000+ on a new car at the moment, I feel asking for a test drive would be a little dishonest of me 🙂
  21. Just had my 2006 RX400h serviced by Lexus, Guildford. Brilliant customer service, and surprisingly good prices! Big point here, though... The free hybrid system check that comes with a service is now extended to include vehicles up to 15 years old. This is better than it sounds... Not only is the check free, but any hybrid failure within the following 12 months is treated as under warranty. This is even if you go for the cheaper "essential care" service, like I did. The downside with the essential care is that you don't get a discount with your LOC membership.
  22. That's a good point about waiting for the engine to warm up... My fuel consumption seems worse as the weather is cooling. Also, of course, batteries are less efficient in the cold.
  23. I do a lot of short trips in 12 year old 400h, and I'm not the most gentle when it comes to the horses, but even I get 21-22 (which is still better than my previous car... A 2.4 litre Hyundai at 18-19). I'd get it checked.
  24. My only other experience with TS was a hire car many years ago... Ford Sierra or Mondeo (can't remember which) had a large engine for its day, and I remember thinking "what the heck was that?" Funny thing is that the Vauxhall of similar spec I had a couple of weeks later was perfectly well behaved. Personally, given a choice between oversteer and TS, I prefer to have oversteer, but since so many cars are now front wheel drive, I guess I just have to put up with it, unless I go back to a BMW or Porsche! I intend keeping the RX for a good long while, so it's good that I've got used to it.
  25. It's been in the boot for a few days with some stuff on it, and seems to have flattened out. It really didn't look like it would!
