  1. Yeah it could well have been that, I do remember the number plate issue now However, it did sound like it came from within the car. It's good to hear actually that most of you don't have these problems, but I must stand by my assessment owning 3 older Lexus products and never experiencing these noise problems until now. In two of the cases even the dealership acknowledged the problems.
  2. My partner got given a Takumi grade brand new NX300h today during her service, all the bells and whistles. So there I am putting the ML sound system to the test, and shock horror, under heavy bass the boot door that houses the sub woofer was making a terrible rattle on low frequencies, so loud that it came through all the music! Has anyone else had this problem? This and two other loaner UXs I've had have all had bad rattles under loud heavy bass, UX was in the doors. Lexus what is going on? These kind of issues are seriously shaking my faith in the brand and putting me off any future upgrades... Neither my current IS or our NX has these build quality issues. Is this a sign of dropping standards for more profit? Also I hate the new synthetic leather they use, it makes me warm and sticky, no thanks!
  3. This is just the 12V battery on the *****, take it to a dealership to check it out, or leave the car on for about an hour stationery if you can start it, that will fully charge the 12V battery
  4. I think you'll find even in shift mode with sport mode selected, it will auto up shift before hitting redline in both the IS and RC. They are identical as far as I know, but I could be wrong and maybe this is something the RC has over the IS, but sadly I doubt it...
  5. So I just had this problem very bad on my IS300h. Rear brakes would squeal something terrible when maneuvering at low speeds. Took it to the dealership and it luckily did happen when I showed them. What was it? Turns out a load of dirt and grime had gotten into the calipers and they weren't moving property causing the breaks to stick. I have to give the dealership some credit here, they completely sorted it out. Now onto my partner's NX that has a different kind of break/wheel whistle 😞 hopefully they can sort it at the next service...
  6. I'm actually really glad to hear you don't experience the problem and you're enjoying your UX, it is quite a fun car to drive. Perhaps it's a design flaw that not all have, but the rattles were on both doors in the same panels and when pressing on the panels it went away. This was also a car with only 1000 miles on the clock. I had the volume up quite hight, between 25-30, but could hear the problem at much lower levels, and also when going over bumps. Try putting the bass up all the way, turn mid and treble all the down and play a track with hard hitting thumpy bass.
  7. Our NX is actually solid as a rock, IS so so, I've had to fix quite a lots of creaks from the centre console (very common problems), but man I swear the doors on the new UX have a massive design flaw!!! I've been in 2 UX now, one even had ML sound system, both had exactly the same issue. Turn the bass up to +3/4 level, put on some hard hitting loud bass music and I bet you will start to hear some rattles coming from the doors. I hope I'm wrong though and that these are two isolated cases, but I imagine it's a common problem.
  8. I find myself in exactly the same position, stuck in my IS300h luxury for a long time to come. I had high hopes they would bring out an IS450h plugin hybrid (still on the cards for next update), but sadly not yet. I still say it was a short sighted decision from Lexus not to bring the new IS here, dealership seems to agree as so many IS drivers waiting to upgrade, but most of them will be lost customers. Lexus do make some very strange decisions. As for the ES300h, no way!!! I love rear wheel drive and the ES300h is an underpowered old man's boat, with a cheap feeling interior. ***** it's almost as slow as the NX300h! UX also has a very cheap and rattly interior and lots shared with ES I believe. So with that said, I'm pondering these possible RWD choices (assuming no IS) - RC F (running costs possible deal breaker) - IS300h FSport + premium package, but I'm thirsty for a better 0-60 time and more responsive gear box. - LC500H or LC500 (hybrid too impractical and gear box still a bit iffy). Running costs an issue with V8. - BMW 330e (image issues and just not reliable enough) Used one a big risk!! Customer service? - GS450h FSport also a possibility, but possibly too outdated and hard to find. And that's all folks. Would love to know your thoughts on those alternatives, maybe I've missed a few in there, but I don't want an EV yet. Oh, I do have a theory. Perhaps Lexus know about the predicament we're all in and assume that most of us will wait for the all new IS in a few years, EV + hybrid coming down according to recent announcement... First world problems hey!
  9. Great points guys, and yes, in addition to telling them not to wash the car, in case they forgot I'm going to put post-it notes outside and inside not to wash/clean anything!! It's not a courtesy wash, it's a car paint butchery is what it is. It's just ultimate proof that deep down the famed Lexus customer service is all a bit disengenuous and really they couldn't give a damn about these beautiful cars. I digress... 🙂
  10. I believe the drive trains are still bullet proof, but the interiors in the cheaper models are absolutely rubbish now!
  11. I highly recommend that no one ever let a dealership clean their car ever again, I guarantee they are going to add light scratches and swirl marks to your paint. They washed my IS by mistake again and put a load of long scratches into the bonnet!! To say I was furious would be an understatement, and now the car needs to go into the shop for a full polish, paid for by Lexus of course. They just don't give a damn and are using dirty water and dirty mitts/sponges between washes caked in lots of grit no doubt, just don't risk it guys! A friendly warning to those that live their Lexi 🙂
  12. Had my second UX loaner car today and to my horror it had the same terrible rattles and loud vibrations coming from panels on both driver and passenger doors. It happens when listening to music with any good amount of bass and also when going over bumpy roads, it really is terrible and completely ruins the car. Surely it's not just me that has noticed this epic design flaw in the UX, guys? It's quite shocking this is coming from a Lexus, I can't believe they didn't pick up on this during initial construction and testing. makes it feel like a really chip plasticity toy car, shocking! I hate to say it, but I don't think new Lexus cars are as well built as they once were, too much cost cutting has ruined build quality
  13. - We have an NX and I find I am able to rest both my arms quite easily on both arm rests, between the two seats and by the door. Actually I find them very comfortable, but my arms are fairly long so... - Boot is a little on the slow side, but really never bothered us. I feel lucky just to have a boot that opens automatically. - In the warmer weather and going down long hills while regen braking, it's more than possible to get a full battery with all but the tiny bar full. I've had a 100% full battery with all bars full when going down seriously long hills. You should try and do all your braking using regen and try never to bottom out on the charge meter, and when you get better at this you will find you get a full battery more often and improved fuel economy. - EV mode button is for a few situations like when starting in the morning when you don't want to engine to fire up. You can also use it when creeping around, and if you have an almost full battery and the car is warm, it should allow you to go up into the second half of the eco section in the speedometer. However, you will need to have the car in ECO mode and be very light on the accellerator to keep it in EV mode. All in all, it does have it's uses, especially when you don't want the engine to turn on in quiet situations (i.e. car parks, starting up the car, waiting in the car when kids around ,etc, etc...) I will say this though, EV button mode works much better on my IS and in our NX.
  14. Leave the car on stationery for about an hour to trickle charge the 12v battery from the hybrid battery, the time between each engine hybrid recharge cycle will become less and less you'll notice, and this will indicate that your 12v is nice and topped up. If after doing this you still experience problems, then you'll definitely need a new 12v battery. Thus happened to me recently, I learnt a lot about how the 12v charging works, and will definitely do things differently in the future (i.e, not turning the car off unless I have to, don't use accessory mode too often for too long, etc, etc) however, I ultimately needed to replace the 12v battery at the dealership. Good luck!
  15. So I tried my ferrite core on the cable where it comes out of the dash cam right next to the DAB antenna, but it didn't work. Any other suggestions?
  16. Yes, I have an IS300h and partner an NX300h. Yeah adding a ferrite core on the section of cable coming out the dash cam should do the trick, off to Halfords tomorrow. Cheers!
  17. Just got the front camera, so I'm surprised it's as bad as it is. Thanks guys, will give the ferrites a go!
  18. So we've just figured out why our DAB Radio signal has been terrible last several months... It's the bloody nextbase 522 dashcam causing interface. Turn the cam off and it's perfect again. I got them to hardwire it into the fuse box so no cable is visible apart from the small section coming out of camera into the trim. I will try to place a ferrite core around that bit, but failing that, any other suggestions guys? Anyone else has this problems? Oh and guess what once again, I asked the dealership what could be causing it and they didn't have a clue as usual... Thanks
  19. On the Michellin website, only the normal Cross Climates are available for the NX, they don't seem to have move the '+' version to the NX yet. Also, watching some recent NX reviews, seem like Cross Climates are now being put into the stock vehicles, so perhaps Lexus are listening.
  20. We recently had all 4 tyres changed on our 2016 FSport from noisy rock hard Yokos, to Michellin Cross Climates. The hype is real everyone, they are superb tyres, so much quieter and softer riding than the Yokos. They have massively improved the ride and noise levels in our FSport, worth every penny!!! The dealership said they wouldn't make much difference and tried to put me off saying "stick with the Yokos". They have no idea what they're talking about and only want you to stick with Yokos cos they buy in bulk, I'm guessing. I generally don't put much stock into what they say, and thankfully my instinct was right once more. There is however only one downside to the Cross Climates over the Yokos. The Yokohama have a bigger flatter contact patch with the road (hence why so noisy), which gives them a slightly sharper turn in when cornering and a slightly more planted road feel. However, it's a small price to pay for how much better the ride quality and road noise is. I imagine this is even less noticeable in non FSport NX. They are also outstanding in wet conditions. Went through some epic puddles at the weekend and the car wasn't phased at all, very impressed! I've driven non FSport NX, and can honestly say that an FSport + Cross Climates is the best combination of handling, ride quality and road noise an NX can have.
  21. We have a 2016 FSport, so it also has navigation, unlike previous year non premium models.
  22. FSport drive train is identical, but tighter handling due to less body roll and slightly heavier steering. If you're going for an FSport (we have one) then you must insist on changing to Michellin Cross Climate tyres. With those tyres the ride over normal roads is almost on par with a non FSport, but still tighter handling in the corners. FSport + Michellin Cross Climates for the best combination of ride quality and handling. Also, I would say if you can add AVS as that will further improve the FSport ride.
  23. I did ask that, but they said under no circumstances is that allowed at the moment 😞 If they can't fix it at the next service then I might try and find a good local mechanic as I have so little faith in the dealership technicians. They're just trying to get through as many cars as quickly as possible and anything outside of the ordinary seems out if their capacity. Either that or I'll be contacting Scotty Kilmer 😉
