  1. Welcome to the club, I hope Lexus ownership is as enjoyable for you as for many of us on here. I too like to have a manual of sorts and bought a disc from eBay for my ls400 and Ls430 however have not bothered so far with my current cars as my local Lexus dealer at Hedge End has kindly shared screen shots of parts etc when needed.
  2. Alternator checked and charging was inconsistent also down to less than 8 volts at times so decided to change the brushes. Ordered the brushes from Hedge End at around £26. The worst part of the job was removal of the alternator once undone! The brushes had reduced in size by about 10mm over the cars 93000 miles. All back in and jump started and 13.9 to 14 volts registered. 15 mile run and battery all charged up so hopefully no more issues. One thing I didn’t know was that I had to reprogram the drivers door window buttons so I could remotely wind down the passenger windows.
  3. Thanks good call as I am sat here thinking do I buy non genuine or refurbished existing unit? I would prefer to keep the original unit if it is just the brushes. I have refurbed units myself so I may we’ll add another post to see what other members have done. Thanks
  4. Well here’s an update so far, car opened with key, battery in the car was absolutely flat ( car was bought three weeks ago from private seller) it had only recently had a new battery so I am going out to buy a battery for my digital analyser to check if the alternator is charging. I think this is the likely problem as it started and locking worked when battery pack connected. I did get the roof rails off today and fit new seals to the mountings ans also found a crack in the weld so added silicone so hopefully the leak will be addressed. Checked with Lexus and new alternator is £736.93 with club discount so may just change the brushes if it’s not charging.
  5. Good choice of Lexus, hope you enjoy the experience as much as many of us do and also being part of the club
  6. Ah sorry mis understood, I only have the one key for the RX but all three for the 460 so am in a bit of a pickle. I have just realised that I have a leak in the 300 at the top rear nearside which I have seen houses the door control receiver so it could be that has gotten wet and caused the problem, busy day tomorrow I think!
  7. Hi Thanks for your reply, I believe the car battery is fairly new and I've changed the key battery but will give it a go in the morning. Should the car start or be immobilised? Thanks
  8. I have just seen that the door control receiver is in the back nearside top of the bodywork where I have just got a leak so if the receiver was wet I guess this could be the issue? does anyone have experience of this and could I buy a secondhand unit if so will it plug and play or need programming? Thanks
  9. Hi, its the 300 with the problem the 460 is sweet and starts first time but I now can't get it out of the garage until I find a way to move the 300. Fortunately I do have a Mercedes SLK so I am still able to get around but I will be learning a lesson or two here, park on the other side of the garage so as not to block the 460 in and further away from the garage door and make sure I have a spare key. I should have learnt by now but I can see the funny side so no problem and thanks for your advise
  10. Today is turning out to be a frustrating one, I thought mmm nice and sunny why not get the old LS460 out and give it a blast and go to get the cat some food (necessary journey) To do this I had to move my parked RX300 that was in front of the garage on the same side as my 460 was parked on the inside. Quick press of the remote on the RX usually opens the car but not today!!! as the car is new to me and I don't have a second key I have it earmarked to have the key cut and programmed next week, so I could check by using a spare. Quick trip to Lexus with my son a chauffeur and one battery later still not working. We live on a slope so can't easily push said RX out of the way, I have posted for help in the RX section so probably calling the AA tomorrow. Was really looking forward to my 460 drive today, so it's a case of What didn't I do in my Lexus today !
  11. I have left my car for a couple of days and went to open with the remote today and whilst the light comes on the key nothing is happening and the car is not opening? I do not have a second key as I only recently bought the car and have arranged for a second key to be cut and programmed in a weeks time. I went to lexus locally and had the key battery changed but still no response. All was working well previously. Can anyone help with any ideas please, I have tried a search on the site but nothing has come up. If I unlock manually will the alarm go off and if so how do I stop it? (my car manual is in the glove box!) can I manually unlock and still drive the car or is there an immobiliser that will stop me? Thanks for taking the time to read this thread and any advise would be appreciated. Thanks
  12. The previous owner of my car dealt with this problem by using a national windscreen and glass company however I can’t find the receipt. May be worth a phone around.
  13. Thanks I’ll sign up. First it’s for a hobby then perhaps a small business with my son. I started a paint protection company over 10 years ago and did well from that. I have invested in Rupes equipment and am researching what else will be needed. I also want to bring back my LS460 to look as good as I can make it and enjoy that experience. Many thanks
  14. Hi I am getting into detailing with my son and think a paint depth gauge could be a good investment. Could anyone recommend a budget gauge as there seems to be quite a few out there. Thanks
  15. Tulpen thanks that’s good to know, I’ve got the 19 inch rims on mine. I have the Michelin Pilots on my all but didn’t even consider for the Lexus. Good call thanks
  16. Thanks for your reply I had Avon on a big Merc I had a few years back and they were very good so I’ll have a look. I hope you enjoy your trip to Cornwall, something we fancy doing but the 460 is quite wide for the small lanes.
  17. I have not owned my latest Lexus for too long but thought I would share some feedback on my first long motorway journey. It was 428 mostly motorway or duel carriageway miles. I achieved 32mpg at motorway speeds keeping up with the traffic. Tyre noise was my greatest concern. My CPS light had come on a while back and with a clean of the front L has stayed off. The roads were wet so on corners it did not feel too sure footed. Can anyone recommend tyres that are quiet but also give a reasonable grip and life. I don’t drive hard I put 70,000 miles on a set of Pirelli Scorpion tyres on my XC70. The jury is out for me as too whether the LS430 or my 460 give a better ride, however I have to say I have been impressed and pleased and can see myself loving every minute in this car. Thanks for any feedback or suggestions.
  18. I guess we live and learn but these are truly great cruising cars. I have a Mercedes all that is immaculate and low mileage for its age by a manual gearbox which I wanted but my wife can’t drive so may have to change that and I know I will regret it so for now it stays and I keep looking for a good RX300!
  19. Yes it was a hard decision as it had been with us for so long. I am hoping my 460 is a faithful to the family
  20. I found a few photos of my old LS430 that I bought with 75000 miles on the clock and over the following 12 years did another 100,000 miles. The greatest expense was the radiator issue otherwise just survivable items. We drove to the South of France and all over the UK. A truly great car until the ecu and throttle body played up and with the low value of the car I decided to let it go, something I may live to regret.
  21. Hi Steve, I cleaned the said area and so far all is good I really hope this has solved it. I drove 80 miles today and all ok so my fingers and toes are crossed! thanks for you help on this one PJ
  22. Hi can anyone help as I was out in the car today when manoeuvring in a car park my PCS light came on along with the yellow triangle. Car drives fine, goes off when car ignition off and car restarted but now comes back on after about a mile. Is this likely to be a sensor problem or any ideas? Is this a trip to the dealer to turn off or is there anything I can do? Not long bought the car so hoping it’s nothing too bad. Thanks for any advise.
  23. Thanks for the heads up I’ll see if I can find it, it would save my wife’s struggle every time she gets in
  24. Hi I have only had my 460 for about one month, I bought it with 75,000 miles on the clock. It is a 2007 model, silver with black interior. I have driven just over 1000 miles in it and so far it’s been a good experience. The tyres seem noisier than I think they could be they have Falkens on them. It does have a full Lexus service history. At this age I did expect it to have had some paint and indeed the bumpers have been painted. The passenger door hinges are stiff which will be a challenge. I have averaged 32.2 on the three long runs I have been on. Overall I really like it.
