  1. Trust me, this is clearly not real! For one, the haggis only has two legs - it is a myth that it has one shorter than the other too. As a frequent visitor to Aviemore and the highlands I can personally say I have never seen a 3 legged haggis.

I'm also suspecious of it's coat - lowland Haggis has it's stripes running vertically.

So to sum up - this is a hoax

    :D :P :hehe:

  2. I was originally told that it was a 7 week wait.

I was told the same thing if we (read, she) was choosy on the colour. She wanted either silver or magnetic blue. The blue was a few weeks off, but we could have the silver almost instantly. Next day, dealer called to say they were getting the blue for 1 week delivery! (She was happy).

Anyway, now that you've got it - what do you think?

Could you do me a favour and tell me what version of the NAV DVD you have? (Settings \ Information, I think). Just wondering if we should update ours as it's 18 months out of date.

  3. Well the Charity White-water rafting event took place at Grandtully in Perthshire on Saturday (See original post: Here) The event was split in two over a 6 mile course. The first 3 miles were in fairly calm waters and involved a sprint race. The second 3 miles were spent on the white waters. So how did we do? Well...

On arrival we were issued with a hot bacon roll - there was a slight irony in this, in that the charity benefiting from the event was Chest, Heart and Stroke :duh: Nevertheless, it provided essential fuel for the day ahead...

We immediately took the lead after a start Jensen Button would have been proud of, with gritted faces we were a raft length ahead of our the nearest competitors as we approached the first bridge. With a team of 4 guys and 4 gals and an instructor at the rear giving "instructions" we continued in the lead under the bridge, however, the second placed raft was gaining and despite the encouragement from our instructor, we just couldn't make the raft go any faster. I'm sure the girls at the back were just enjoying the ride while we at the front got our blades (to give them their official name!) stuck in to the River Tay. "In, In, In" was the constant cry from the back. But it was no use, by now after about 10 minutes the pain at the shoulders was apparet for all, but we kept at it. By now, the second placed raft was along side us (a raft full of guys!), and was gaining on us. As the now 1st placed raft powered ahead we were being closely followed by the boat behind us. Encouragement continued from the instructor and we kept pushing, now in 5th place, we approached another series of rapids, the raft ahead went in and as it emerged we could see a body in the water. Under the rules of the race we were obliged to pick him up. This also meant that the raft ahead had to stop and collect their man and now gave us the chance to dump him and get back into 4th place. We stayed in 4th place until the end of the race section. After 3 miles of constant rowing in very cold water we were now ready to start the gentle (!) cruise back to base another 3 miles downstream. This part was not a race, so off we went into the unknown. We were first to go, adrenalin pumping we head into our first rapid and emerged OK, our instructor constantly shouting "get down" when inches from them, then "back up" when we'd cleared them often emerging facing up stream. As we rounded the final bend, we could see the base where everyone's friends and family were gathered. Being first through the white waters we took great delight in the applause from the banks of the river and were quite happy to let them think we'd actually won the race :whistling: However, by the time we'd gotten out of our safety gear and wet suits the winners had been announced. Never mind coming 4th was respectable - well, that is until I say there were only 5 rafts! Never mind, they say it's the taking part that counts.

So despite not getting a podium finish, everyone had a fantastic day out, and more importantly the event raised over £30000 for charity which was brilliant.

Photographs from the event are in the Gallery:

Matt McNally is setting up an online payment button for those that pledged to send your cash. Even if you did not originally pledge money, it's not too late - I'll forward on any donations received.

Finally, on behalf of Chest Heart and Stroke, may I thank everyone for their support with this.

    David.

  4. Well a week to go until this event and I'm now beginning to wonder what I've let myself in for (judging by the pictures at the link below!).

Once again, thanks to everyone on LOC who has pledged cash for this event - our team of 8 has raised over £1000 towards Chest, Heart, and Stroke Scotland. A great effort!

I'll be posting pictures of the event next week and will also be PM'ing those who pledged - so get your wallets and purses ready!

Am I really going to do this!?

    Once again, many thanks!

  5. The new GS looks very nice - not sure about the front end styling, but on the whole much nicer than the current GS (no offence to current owners).

Is there any info on Spec's and prices? I guess the one in the pictures is a 430 Sport with lowered suspension and larger (18"/19") wheels.

I'm surprised there wasn't an IS concept shown - afterall, the IS must be Lexus' most important model and needs some interest stirred up. If I was in the market for another IS sized car, I would be looking at the Accord 2.4 now - As much as I have loved my IS, it's getting a bit out-dated by the fresher models from other manufacturers.

  6. So sorry Javaboss, it's me that has the CR-V SE Exec. I've not been on LOC much over the past several weeks - been really busy and I'm currently in Washington.

A bit late now, but yes, I think the Exec is worth the extra - The heated seats are excellent and a must on leather (as we all know!) As for the Sat Nav, again, It's saved me a few times when trying to find somewhere.

Hope you enjoy it when you get it - I know we do. Mrs A loves it, and I've got to admit, we tend to use it more than the Lex for nights out / weekend's away.

What colour did you go for?

  7. Looks like you had a great day - sorry I missed it. I'm stuck here in D.C. in my hotel room - I thought I was flying back today, turn's out it's tomorrow

Actually I'm not sure I would have made it anyway had I been at home, I've been up to my eyes in work for the past month or so and have only been visiting LOC for a daily 5 minute fix in that time. I think if I said I was going to meet a bunch of guys to talk about cars after being away so much recently, a wife-sized punch in the jaw would have been forthcoming!

Anyway hopefully next time once my workload and travel has gone down a bit, I'll be able to make a Scotland Meet.

PS, they say absense makes the hard grow fonder ............

......... can't wait to get my Lex back out of the Airport Parking! :) (The Mustang I have at the moment is a piece of ****)

  8. and the pet i am going to forget about until after we have moved in (she isn't a messy parrot, so whats the harm?!).

Not sure what the housing laws are in England, but up here, a landlord has the right to inspect his/her property provided reasonable notice is given.

You might have to quickly put your bird in your lex if your landlord wants to have a look around! :D :whistling:

I think TDIPLC is correct, there must be a market for this kind of tennacy agreement! mmmmmmm :whistling:

Good luck with your flat - remember your landlord can also be your best friend too! You might need a reference from him if you move to another property.
