John, I had a message left today to ring Cameron from the same dealer we have both placed our orders for our new RZ’s. Cameron’s message was he needs to know the colour and interior colour. So my order could be fully processed to Lexus. I tried ringing him back and spoke to one of his colleagues. I asked did I need to provide my colours etc. If the car wont be delivered until whenever next year. And I asked again, when might it be delivered, and didn’t get an answer. You seem to be getting more info from the Exeter dealer... Can I ask have you provided your colours etc…? I might be better to cancel my order with Exeter and place it with the Lexus dealer that supplied my new LC500 Convertible...!

    Hi Kevin

I ordered Sonic Grey the same as my NX. I was told that it was better to provide the colour at the time of order to ensure it gets into the system quicker. Whether or not this makes a difference or not I don't know. To be honest, I might cancel depending on circumstances nearer the time when I've had a test drive. I still think 72k is too much but who knows by the time we get to next year.

    Hi Andy

After October I will probably just run it purely as a hybrid as charging from home will be more expensive than running on petrol. Future tariff changes may swing the EV back to being cheaper so I don't regret opting for the 450h+ which is a great car even if its £10k more than the 350h.

    Hi Ken

By some miracle I signed up to a 3 year deal with EDF last September at 21p/kwh. At the time, I didn't know whether I was doing the right thing as I was paying 14p with Octopus but that deal was coming to an end. So for once I made the right decision and will continue using the car mostly in EV for the next 2 years which is a lot cheaper than petrol. If only I had done the same with gas. You win some you lose some!

I wonder what Lexus Dealer told him some of the cars will be delivered in November this year…! I think I will message him and ask. I might cancel my order and place it with the dealer that can get me one in 2022…! Has anybody got any updates regarding delivery of their RZ’s…?

When I placed my order in May, I was told delivery would be in the first quarter of 2023. When I spoke to my dealer last week, he told me production was delayed until November this year with first customer cars to be delivered by June 23.  There is no way anyone will get one this year if productions only starts in November

I suspect that Exeter want to secure an order and then will drip feed the delays next year in the hope by then you would keep with the order as competitors will still be saying 6 months from new order.

I have read somewhere that the wheel issue with the Toyota (same as RZ) is delaying production so that may well be impacting the RZ,  hence some dealers being straight and realistically saying last quarter next year.

I suspect you are right but still a bit iffy to me. By the way what is the wheel issue? I must have missed that

I have just rung the only Lexus Dealer in Devon @ Exeter. Where I have ordered my Takumi from… The guy I spoke to said if another person rang and ordered an RZ today… The latest information we have from Lexus is that it would be a March 2023 delivery, the same delivery date as mine…!

I do hope Lexus aren’t becoming another Genesis…! My dealings with Genesis were pathetic. Miserably inadequate and of a very low standard.

So Lexus Exeter are giving different stories to different customers. Interesting.

Deposit is £ 500 fully returnable  after a test drive proves unacceptable or before. I doubt £ 500 over 18 months would return more than say £ 20 !!

I think the car market will be in an entirely different place next year and so hoping a discount may be available !

Tongue was firmly in cheek with my comment on lost interest!

  7. My dealer told me yesterday that production was due to start this November however due to supply issues has been put back to March 23. He said customer deliveries are due to start late summer so it looks like it will be September at the earliest.  If so, they will have had my deposit for 16 months. Just think of the amount of interest I have lost and they have gained over the 16 months!!

I assume the 72k for the Takumi will not increase for deliveries then. Perhaps that's why they have priced it so high.

One tip the Tech Helpline gave us

If you get in the car and Guest comes up then there is a way round the 'everyone out of the car and try getting back in and hopefully it'll get the right profile and if not repeat the dance until it does' farce:

On the Lexus Link App if you swipe left from the picture of the car an option becomes available to 'Login on multimedia device'  That will identify the profile to the 'Connect User QR code' on the multimedia screen so saves having to remember and laboriously key in a password.

Also the Tech Helpline has a document called 'HOW TO ACTIVATE CONNECTED SERVICES
LEXUS LINK APP'  which does talk through the details steps to properly link a single account to Smart services.  It's 8Meg so can't upload it here.

Now off to try more experiments . . . .

Connect using QR code never works for me unfortunately

My dealer's last ETA in UK was 22nd July; looking at the resource you provided the vessel Goodwood arrives at Portbury on 22nd July.    I am scheduled to be driving down to south of France on Friday 5th August; am doubtful I will get my NX before then - I think it up to a month to get from Portbury to delears?

I live quite close to Portbury and the dealers but it was 3 weeks to get mine after it docked. It went to Derby to have the welding checked due to the recall and then it was sent from Derby to Bristol. Anyway, good luck and hope you drive to France in the NX

  10. If anyone is interested in my original post (given that the majority of comments are about other issues)  I went to Tesco this morning and the car was there again but not plugged in. I asked around and  discovered  that the car belongs to an employee at Tesco  Having spoken to the  store manager today  he agreed about the inconvenience and has instructed the employee not to park there when not charging. So hopefully problem solved.

Yes I understand that but the Lexus isn't just a rebadged BZ, they are using different motor configurations to give it more performance and they could possibly improve charging performance too - we have to wait until Lexus release more details (at which point we probably will be disappointed).

I  hope we won't be disappointed, I've  had one on pre order since May and I really want Lexus to be the EV for me going forward.

I suppose there could be reasons why the EV was parked at a charger and not plugged in.  For example, the charger may be out of action.  We have a new Sainsbury store with a short row of charging bays and they are often vacant for that reason.

But the situation you describe - namely one EV monopolising a charger for hours - I see as almost inevitable.  Until there might be a battery replacement system - rather like exchanging your empty gas cylinder for a full one - it’s never going to be a speedy process.

And personally I wouldn’t even contemplate an EV unless I had a charger at home.

Of course, stores such as Tesco offering free charging are only going to exacerbate the problem.  If they want to provide it as a customer service, then they could use their Loyalty Card system to activate the charger.  That would restrict it to Tesco customers and even identify the user.

Or are they doing that already?

All chargers were working according to the Podpoint app which you need to log on to to get free charging. If you don't have the app you are restricted to 15 minutes only. You don't need the loyalty card

  13. Since having my car in March, I have used Tesco's free Podpoint charger whilst shopping each week and manage to get about 6kw of free charge. Every little helps?  Until this morning. I get there  and all 4 bays are full but the one bay had a Nissan Leaf there which was not plugged in.  We went shopping for about 40 minutes or so and it was still sitting there when we came out with no one in it and not plugged in. Why are people so selfish?  I really hope this will not be a problem going forward as more people get EV's and I would really love to know why this person thought it was ok to leave his/her car there when not charging. Rant over but I was slightly peeved this morning and I would certainly not leave my car there if it wasn't plugged in.

is this going to be a common factor with EV chargers then ??

Having to move home to a good signal area to ensure you can run your EV car :wink3: ...  oh my !  bring on the V8 petrol cars forever

    Malc

Well I live within a 1/4 mile of mobile masts and we get an excellent coverage with speeds of 140mbs on 4G and BG tell me the reason I cannot always connect the app to the charger is because of a poor signal. My smart meter works well on 2G so I suspect there is a problem with the charger. I am on my second now which is a lot better but still drops out. I think BG need to rethink their  responce

Has anybody read anywhere what the front headroom is. I’ve trawled the web and can’t find it. The RZ is the same height as the NX and when I sat in one of those with the seat at its lowest there wasn’t anywhere enough headroom. I’m 6’ 1” so not abnormally tall. If the headroom is the same as the NX I was in, I’ll be asking for my £500 back as my eye-line was above the top of the windscreen !

If it's any help, I sat in the BZ4 the other day and there was plenty of headroom for me and more than my new NX. I'm 6'.

I'm on the cusp of purchasing a NX450h+ and was considering taking tyre and wheel insurance.  I started digging about to see if the insurance was any real value and have stumbled across the fact that it seems almost impossible to get RunFlat versions of a 235/50R20 V100 anywhere.  I went back to the dealership who have basically acknowledged that this is an issue and they are liaising with Lexus.  I can't see the value in taking any insurance if even Lexus main agent can get a tyre for these cars.  My school of thought is that before I purchase I want assurances from the dealer that if I'm unlucky enough the get a puncture and they can't supply me a tyre they will supply me another car until they can rectify the situation.  Not sure how that convo will go but I will let you all know.  In the meantime, I found this which appears to be about the only RunFlat in that size available in the UK.   https://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/yokohama-bluearth-xt-ae61-tyres?size=235-50-20&speed=v&load=100&id=2355020YK8VR

I was in my dealers the other day and specifically asked if they have any run flat tyres in stock. They acknowledged that they are having serious problems getting tyres and are working hard to resolve this. I made it clear that if Lexus have sold me a car I can't get a replacement tyre for if needed I would expect them to supply me with a car for the duration. They said they would "come to some arrangement" if required. Otherwise I presume you could reject the car as "unfit for purpose" if they can't provide such a basic thing as a Tyre. I hope I don't get to find out.

@Ken R @John Adams TBH guys I am not sure that they will agree to change it due to intermittent signal issues, they agreed to change mine since the signal strength needed for the mobile network that the Alfen charger uses is zero where we live.

You can but try, but I imagine they may suggest waiting for a software update or something. It does sound as though the Alfen charger, only using 2g, is a little outdated when it comes to connectivity of mobile signals

They actually did change my first one because it would only connect occasionally. They subsequently said it was a faulty modem. The new one connected first time and was fine for a few weeks and then started dropping out. This has gradually got worse and goes down muliple times a day.
