Everything posted by Tom,

  1. I'm going to get the dealer to set up mine when it goes in for its first service.
  2. After two weeks in the cruise car park at Southampton last November/December - no problem starting.
  3. Turn the A/C off and your EV range will leap up. Mine now shows 50 miles at every full charge.
  4. Alex, 4 hours of cheap elecricity charges my car to about 80%. I don't do long journeys every day any more, so that suits me fine as 2 nights of charging takes me up to 100% even with daily trips to the local shops. Interestingly, I did a longer journey today and now the weather has warmed up I achieved 48.2 miles on EV alone, up from 39 or 40 miles in the cooler weather.
  5. Alex - thanks for that. The £1,000 odd cost of an Ohme charger would take a long time to recover at a saving of 1.5p per Kwh! I think I'll stick with the good old 13 amp socket. One issue I do have is that the Lexus charging programme cannot be set for both start and stop times, which is needed to make full use of the low cost period. I have overcome this by fitting an external 60 amp timer to the 13 amp supply, which I needed to do anyway because I have a heated pool. The pool does not have its own timer and I needed to heat it during the low cost period as well as charge the car. Tom
  6. Interesting John & Chris. I know that Octopus have a somewhat cheaper tariff than 'Octopus GO' which I am on and gives me 9p per unit from 0030 to 0430. However, my understanding is that the 7.5p tariff is only available for those cars whose manufacturers have signed up to Octopus' clever smart arrangement, which Lexus have not. Chris, I also export excess solar, but am paid 70.71p per Kwh. We were lucky enough to get on original 'feed-in' tariff.
  7. Is that what they charge at public charge stations? A big difference from the 9p per Kwh I'm paying for 'Octopus Go' each night. At my indicated 2.4 mile/Kwh I calculate that 33 miles is costing £1.24. At £1.49/litre for petrol, 33 miles of pure ICE only is costing £6.77, which is 5.5 times more. Even the Octopus daytime rate of 26.778 p/Kwh, it is 1.8 times cheaper than petrol.
  8. David, Mine is in 'ECO' mode and now showing 2.4 mile/Kwh. Note that when in EV mode the car will sometimes make up its own mind to change to HV mode for a short time. I think this may be to keep the 12v battery charged, or perhaps some other reason, but it gives you a false idea of the range you think you are getting in EV mode. I tried a longer motorway trip recently in HV mode, but the car stayed the whole journey with the ICE engine doing the driving and the fully charged EV battery stayed fully charged. So I put it into EV mode for the return journey! Electricity is cheaper than petrol! Tom
  9. p.s. Make sure the dealer properly sets up your second key. Mine did not.
  10. I was given one complete key and one metal key at time of purchase. I was subsequently given one spare key remote only, along with locking wheel bolts.
  11. Does anyone know how to re-set the m/Kwh display? I don't really want to know the overall average, but more interested in how the figure might improve now I'm no using heaters and lights as much.
  12. Bob, Holding the trip button resets whichever trip meter is selected, A or B, but doesn't reset the Miles/Kwh indicator on my car.
  13. Back on the original subject of miles per Kwh - does anyone know how to reset the Miles/Kwh indicator? Mine started at 2.9 when new but gradually dropped back to the current 2.3. Now the winter is over (??) I would like to get an idea what it's doing without heaters, lights etc. Tom
  14. Agreed - but 804 pages is a lot to print out! Perhaps I'll just print the relevant pages.
  15. Thanks again Kevin. I see the owner's manuals are available on-line thus saving £49.80! at https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/about-my-lexus/manuals The number you gave me looks like it's for the 2022 version of the 450h+. There is a 2023 version : PZ471-9AA96-EN.
  16. Thanks Kevin for explaining that. Now to see if I can obtain the full manual!
  17. Thanks for that Kevin. It does show that my handbook is entirely different to yours though. There does not appear to be any such section in my handbook! Mine has the ID: PZ471-U0142-EN V1 on the back cover. Cheers, Tom
  18. Does anyone know the reason why, when running my RX450h+ on EV only with a full charge, the petrol engine will start and run for a few miles? The Lexus service manager says it's to cool the battery, which I don't believe.
  19. BTW I use 'Octopus GO' via a simple 13 amp socket. This gives me a tariff of 9p per Kwh between the hours of 0030 and 0430. This 3 Kw max charge rate gives me about 80% charge in one 4 hour night's session. If I don't use the car the next day it will set the next charge period for one week's time, thus prolonging battery life by not fully charging. If I do use it the next day, it will top up the next night. All clever stuff!
  20. When you unlock the car to retrieve something, are you pushing the 'Start' button? If so, when you stop the engine you will be invited to 'Charge Now?' You push the top, left hand steering wheel button to do so. Maybe that's the simplest routine.
  21. In the light of all the worries about Lexus RX theft, has any bright spark on this forum come up with any ideas on fitting a hidden switch to disable the car starting? Bit like the switch I fitted to my Ford Thames 100E van about 63 years ago, which cut the supply to the distributor contacts. Yes, I know my RX450h+ is a slightly different beast! Tom
  22. I have to say that the Lexus dealer in Exeter, Snows, treated me very differently from John's experience. Second key handed over along with locking wheel bolts fitted, coffee and biscuits for me the missus and the dog and a nice chat with the charming receptionist! Made arrangement to have the CANBUS theft protection plate fitted, but in the event it transpired that this was already taken care of during manufacture.
  23. I have just collected a spare key and locking wheel bolts for my 5 month old RX450h+, at last! Also I was told that my car does not need anti-theft CANBUS protection plates fitted as this has been taken care of during manufacture. Let's hope the insurance companys take account of this.
  24. I'm going into my dealer next week to pick up my spare key (at last!). I will ask about this weird speed limit behaviour. Tom
  25. Mine showed 2.8 m/kWh when I first got the car back in October. This has gradually dropped and now shows 2.2m/kWh which I put down to the winter use of lights, heaters etc. I would like to know how to reset this display. I get an indicated 40/41 miles range in EV mode. My mostly short journeys are always in EV mode with the occasional longer one in hybrid, so the indicated fuel economy is 99.9mpg which doesn't really help.
